Question: There is a guy on e-bay selling two types of differentials that can fit the MT-2. One is for the 18SS and the other is for the Evo. He says the only difference between the two is the size of the drive cups. I was seeking to upgrade to heavy duty differentials with my new OS 18 CV-RX. Are the Evo ones adequate or are the 18SS better for my MT-2???

how can you test to find out where vapor-lock is happening? it keeps shutting off dead once it warms up.

Just bought the MT2 18SS+ , after ran it 1.2liter I check the F & R ring gear seems start wear out. [][>:]

pic

I saw the hpi advertising shows the MT2 18SS+ comes with black color machined ring gear . But my MT2 18SS+ just comes with grey colour one , like a cut metal gear
http://www.hpieurope.com/kit-info.ph...n&partNo=10446

Is that the black one is hardened than the grey(stock) one ? []

Thanks

I do not think there is anything different between the SS and the SS+ as far as handling. It does come with the newer engine like on the Fire Storm and a better pipe. If you go to HPI web site it tells you what all has changed.

OK guys several things to keep in mind about differentials. Shim them properly and do not land from a jump while into the throttle or with the brakes on!

I think I might be wrong about the SS + having the Fire Storm engine but not sure.[sm=spinnyeyes.gif] As far as the part numbers on the heavy-duty final gears the part number is the same for the SS and the SS+.

I just play it for onroad , no jump.

I put 2shims on both ring gear side . Is that right or not ?

SS+ 18engine also same as SS.

yes...the SS+ HD final gears p/n. same as SS .

Why HPI shows the black final gears on SS+ page ?

No set rule for shimming, as you have to shim as needed as well as check and shim the pinion gear as needed. Shimming to tight is as bad as to loose. Looks like the gear above might have been shimmed to tight.

Shimming is where you take up play by using shims or in the case of the diffs you are trying to get as much teeth engagement of the ring and pinion gears with out any binding.

I don’t as I mess mine up so fast and is why I do nothing fancy. Just plain paint!
