Unionville 6' span Otter in the Wardair colours of the 50s. Large lettering was printed on Ultrcote using an inkjet printer.
The small lettering is vinyl stick on letters spray painted red. Stripes are cut from full sheets of Ultracote.

Sig Smith Miniplane, covered with Dave Brown Skyloft, and brushed polyurethane paint.
After reading so much negative feedback on this material, I just had to have a go myself...
My impression? good stuff!

Hermano, orgulloso debe estar tu hijo por tan bonito decorado, doblemente por que ademas es hecho de planos, felicidades. ¿Donde estan esos planos?
Brother; you should be very proud for your son´s job, beautifull job.
Where can I find those planes?
Saludos.

RE: Good covering jobs!
My hat goes off to all of you. There are some really beautiful planes on this thread. Unfortunately my talents are not that great.
Since there is so much experience at covering on this thread I wanted to ask for some advice on the plane that I am putting together.
The plane is a LT 40 Kadet. It came completely covered in aerokote I believe it is. It is solid white!!! It does have 2 sheets of decals that come with it, which I guess will make it look like a white cow with stripes.
What goes good on aerokote? I don't really want to recover the plane before it's maiden flight.
Does anyone have any great (simple) ideas on how I can spruce up the looks of this plane. I have an covering iron and hot air gun but my experience in covering is very limited. Thanks for any advice and keep up the good work, these planes are simply beautiful!!!

Great looking airplanes... all of them. I am almost done covering my first airplane (Goldberg Eagle2), and boy do these planes ever make me feel intimidated. I have it all covered in neon green Monokote, and I plan on ironing on some metallic blue designs, wow - I'm going to have to put a little more time into it than I had planned.
A quick question (since we're on the subject of covering). There was a warning on the neon green monokote, it said that neon colors are at a risk of fading with either UV light, and CA accelerator. How likely is it that this color will fade rapidly?

All neon colors are prone to fade much faster than standard colors. Don't fret about it, though, unless you store your bird in direct sunlight all the time. Most models expire long before the coating has a chance to fade!

Can I show off mine too?
This is the Parkzone F-27 Stryker covered in Ultracote. Gotta love the Red, White and Blue! I know it's not a balsa build, but if it helps I used balsa for the elevons

RE: Good covering jobs!
A few simple stripes can have a nice effect..
For my Step Son's eagle I just cut up a bunch of 1/4" strips of Monokote and used them for pin striping..
I used a 4' aluminum straight edge as a guide. I've even used a sheet of 1/4" ply as a cutting guide before..
Don't stress if the iron gets some of the colored adhesive on it and starts smearing color all over the covering.. it's a simple to cleanup with a little acetone on a paper towel.
I had little purple marks all over the tail of the Eagle when I was done.. The acetone fixed it right up.
The Stick is a different story..
I wanted to do something different so it's covered with fabric and painted..
It's polyester dress lining applied with 2 coats of Polycryllic
2 coats latex primer (mostly sanded off)
2 coats Rustoleum rattle can paint for the main color and stripes
Logos printed on a Color laser on plain paper (I'm still working out a few issues with applying and sealing them)
Water based Exterior Spar Urethane satin finish clear coat.

sscherin,
Nice work on the Stick.
Myself are considering a more durable covering for my plane but are woried about the extra weight a dope painted cloth covering would be compared to reg Ultracote. Do you have any idea on the weight difference (before and after) of your Stick?

Yeah it's a 23rd Fighter Group "Flying Tigers" Theme.
I posted all the images on the Stick rebuild thread
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=6201447
I printed them on plain paper using an OKI C5200N Color laser.
The down side is you can't use an iron after they are on.. It'll melt the toner.
I applied the smaller ones with white elmers school glue and topped them with Water Based PolyUrethane. They are doing OK.. the bigger ones I used 3M Super 77 Spray.. That didn't turn out so great..
When I put the WBPU over the sprayed ones they wrinkled and bubbled a bit but flattened out as they dried.
I had one lift on the edges after it was dry.. I just tacked it back down with the white glue and brushed the edges with WBPU.
So far so good..
I have not tried applying the larger ones with the white glue.. maybe next time.
