RE: Composite-ARF Integral, kinda build thread
Great...can you also tell us what the completed weight is?
And....did you say that the plane makes a whistle?
Colin.

RE: Composite-ARF Integral, kinda build thread
Hi Colin
My total weight is 4.450Kg (empty without fuel) but not sure about it. I made some changes so I will measure it again tonight.
About the whistling, there is a gap on hi throws of control surface that makes turbulence. The turbulence makes the whistling.
I am thinking of a way to seal this gap, dose anyone have any idea?

Top-hinged composite wing--similar to Integral.
Fairly thick sellotape-type stuff---used for temporary repairs to greenhouse glass, etc.
Stick to ail, cover rest of surface with talc to de-stick the rest, fold into gap. Choose a width to close the gap at full deflection, plus around 5mm extra---not too much more, or it can jam in the gap whilst closing. Run a small bead of cyano along the joint for added security .

Dick,
What current are you pulling with that prop and what ground revs?
Also what steps did you take to spread the motor loads into the front of the fuz with that mounting system?
Regards
Malcolm

RE: Composite-ARF Integral, kinda build thread
I used the gap seal tape found at this link. It has been on my Impact for about a year now and showing no signs of coming loose or causing trouble. It definitely stops the screeches in snaps. There are some posts and pictures in the huge Composite-arf Impact build thread about 3/4ths of the way through it.

@Malcolm H: I did not measure the static current or rpm. As the prop is clearly stalled, when run at full power static, the numbers are problably insignificant.
The power is more than enough and the consumption is about 4000 mAh fot a full P 07 program flown in a stiff wind.
The backside of the motor has a wide stance triangular mounting plate that bolts to the nose.
@JPZ: Feel free to use the vid for your website.
Here is a flight video of the Integral: http://airtoimedia.nl/web/upload/vdV...gral%20P07.wmv

CG is personal preference. I like my plane sluggish in elevator control. So I have my CG foward. I feel like I am chasing the airplane anymore.
BTW I have started my 2nd integral and am using pushrods for elevator control.

Personal preference yes...but it would be good to know what has been used and with how much success. We can then layout the plane around that reference without having to add balance weight. Then our finished weight can be our actual weight.
The difference can be as much as 8oz if I remember Carls post correctly.
Dick, Kevin, Ram...kindly share your CG locations.
Colin.

Carl,
Will you be using the same power plant on your second one? I am considering YS DZ on my second one but not sure when it will be available.

Kevin, yes, The plane will be built exactly like the first except for the pushrods for the elevator and a fiberglass canopy instead of the carbon fiber canopy.
I also think I will be able to move the CG back slightly because of less wing loading on the Stabilizer. The tail of the plane I believe will float more.
The original power plant is an OS 1.40 RX with an Aeroslave pipe. I will be using that same setup.
The only thing holding the build up now is the engine mount. Back ordered for at least another week.

RE: Composite-ARF Integral, kinda build thread
Carl,
One week is not too bad of a wait especially compare with my situation, the new DZ might not be available until Fall, that is a very long wait. Meanwhile, I am planning to get my second one started within the next week or two while waiting for the DZ anyway, but this time I am planning to use either S9550 or S9252 as aileron servos, and stay with two S9650's on the elevators.
Colin,
I have measured my current CG again, and it is at 7.5" or 190mm. Since I feel very comfortable at this setting, I will be using it on my second one too.

Colin,
The CG is at 185mm behind the leading edge at the root.
Video of some fooling around with the Integral to get the feel of the plane: http://airtoimedia.nl/web/upload/vdV...20Integral.wmv

Has anyone tried a ZDZ 40F3a gas engine at the Nationals??
Currios. as I have this engine and was wondering if there was anyone doing well with this setup?

Great flying in both videos. The airplane is obviously well set up.
I'll make my target CG 185-190mm.
Thanks much.

RE: Composite-ARF Integral, kinda build thread
Colin after finishing my second Integral with push rods instead of the stab mounted servos, you may find you will still need to add lead to the nose to achieve the CG you are shooting for. Even after using pushrods I found my battery had to be mounted just above the landing gear to achieve a CG that measures 170 mm
This is with an OS 1.40 RX with ES composite pipe for my power plant.

Nice video and flying! Thank you for posting. The Integral is starting to grow on me. I'm looking forward to seeing them fly in Jacksonville next month, and maybe get my hands on one!

RE: Composite-ARF Integral, kinda build thread
Quick question for those of you that have finished and flown your Integrals. All the control horn locations have balsa blocks in the control surface to glue the phenolic horns into. In the case of the Integral I am building, the rudder balsa block only captures about half of the front of the phenolic control horn if the holes in the end of the horn lines up with the pivot point on rudder (steel pin). Were your Integral rudders the same or did the block extend far enough to the rear of the rudder to give you a glue surface on the entire phenolic horn inside the rudder? Or, did you slide the horn forward to make sure it had full glue contact with the balsa block?
The dimensions given for the center of the rudder block were correct, but it doesn't seem to be wide enough in my opinion.
thanks,
Woodie

RE: Composite-ARF Integral, kinda build thread
I thought the same thing when I was building mine. I thought cutting that much material from the rudder and the block would be weaker then a simple hole.
I decided to use an IMP rudder control horn from Central Hobbies.
That way I just drilled a small hole in the block and hardend the block with CA.
I have over 100 flights on my first Integral with no problems so far.
The 2nd Integral is set up that way. I also opted with Integral #2 to use pushrods and a single servo for elevator control. My opinion is the plane flies better and locks in at lower speeds without the weight in the stab. The tail of the plane flies without the weight in the stab.
Pictures are avilable if anyone is interested in my setup.

RE: Composite-ARF Integral, kinda build thread
Carl, if you don't mind, would you post the pics of your pushrod set-up?
I've done 4 of the rudders stock. Only half the horn is in the balsa (I keep forgetting to tell them this) but haven't had an issue with any of them. 2 glow, 2 electric.
My CG is at the back of the wing tube on the electric.
