RE: Extreme Flight RC Yak 54 - 74 inch!
I have noticed I need to compensate with ailerons and elevator in knife edge so I guess I need to check mine out. I love the way it flies now I really can't imagine if were better. I would have to start camping at the field!

Mine pulls to the gear and tries to roll out also. One day I may mix it out, maybe Flew it lastnight,OMG it was locking into harriers and hovers were great against the perfect blue sky..AHH! Cant wait until Sunday to put more flights on it..

RE: Extreme Flight RC Yak 54 - 74 inch!
I have it assembled and put the incidence meter on it all around.I think the wings and the right stab are within tolerances, and I dont think I will bother with trying to tweak them.
However the left stab is over +1.5 to the rest of the 0'd panels.
I have my original radio trims still. It needed 3 clicks up on maiden flight. The elevator counterbalances are noticably deflected when the radio is on.This is my current trim for level flight.
Would the + degree in the stab half explain my uptrim? CG is around 6.5
It still flys better than anything I've owned, but I feel that I should try to get this stab lined up 100% if possible.
Here is flight vid from the other day.It is a bit lenghty (7 min) and there is nothing too exiting going on,but its a start to what I hope to be a fun and educating aircraft.

Positive incidence in the stab would definately make you need to add up trim. Positive in the tail would cause the tail to rise and nose go down. From the sounds of things it would be WELL worth fixing the incidence. I'm going to try and bust my ***** this weekend and get as much of mine done as I can. My Brilleli 46 should be here early next week and whenever my JR 9303 2.4ghz radio gets here I'll be set to go. Hearing you guys talk about yours makes me excited about mine. I haven't flown anything but foamies for the last 4 years or so.... can't wait!!!

I am leaving tomorrow for vacation and will be back in the office Monday August 13. We are closing up shop for the week, for the first time since we opened our doors in 2002. Our on-line store will still be open and we will process all orders as soon as we return. You guys who are regular contributors to the EF threads, please pass this info along if anyone posts that they are unable to reach us next week.
Thanks guys!
Thanks guys!

Yeah Nitro Wing nice flying.
I would get the incidence right though, Simple fix and your elevator halves will work in perfect harmony with one another. Unless you've already compensated for it your probably +-1.5 on your throws from one side to the other.

RE: Extreme Flight RC Yak 54 - 74 inch!
Thanks guys
I need alot of time with it to get confident and bring it in to the video lens. But one day I hope to bring a good clip to this thread.I will fix the incidence for sure.I knew I was fighting something on pitch and trim, but not until reading here from others had I bothered to check such important things as this stab issue.
I am not going to flame EF over it,it is not a huge deal, and I can see how this can easily get built into the frame during production.I am glad that the stabs are bolt on.A solid epoxied tail would be messy to fix. From now on I will check all my frames before a built becomes final.

Ok engine ran like poop today, Got an Iron Bay I put on it this evening. Hoping this clears things up cause Im tired of being a mechanic and want to be a pilot again [:@]
Nothing like electrics where you just plug it up and go. Oh well Ill get the hang of it one day .
Guess if everything goes as planned we can shoot some video. So far the engine is the only thing holding me back from getting loose with this plane.
Hope you guys are having fun with yours

Saito 180, I dont think its the engines fault. This is my first glow plane so Im a total newb to setting them up. Tank is mounted back under the tube.

Michael... if the tank has been under the tube the whole time that's the most likely cause of the problem. Glow engines can't draw fuel from that far away. I haven't used a regulator like that before, but I just checked out there website and don't understand there logic of why it helps with a tank that is far away from the engine. It may work, I don't know... I do know the Perry regulating pumps work great in a situation like that. Have you tried running it since putting in the regulator? How did it go? Mine will have a Brillelli gasser in it, so I will have nothing to worry about like this.

RE: Extreme Flight RC Yak 54 - 74 inch!
AHHHH Come on dont put in my face like that Flew a friends big AM Extra today with a DL50 It was its first day flying and flew perfect.Im PO'd now
But yeah got up before the crack of dawn got the plane loaded and headed to the field,It was hot and muggy already. Fired it up with the regulator installed let it warm up and proceeded to peak it out. No Good, even though the rpms were more consistent/stable I could only top out at 8300-8500 and still blowing smoke at peak. I dont get it if its still running rich shouldnt it have enough fuel to lean out?
The guy also recomended a Perry to me,even looked for the one he had at one time but was unable to locate. So I think I will order one this week. This makes more sense to me also ,rather then putting 5 pounds of pressure into the tank .Which can get kinda messy when you forget to vent the tank and pull the fuel cap off.
Thanks for the advice and help Im really dertermined to get this thing going.
BTW I have tuned a couple other Saito's to perfection so inexperience in the tuning part is definetley no the issue [8D]

Make sure you go by what a Tach.says on 4 strokes esp. You cant really tell when you have the right rpms without one. 4 strokes make most of their power on the richer side. They should always smoke, they need the lubrication for all those moving parts. Heli fuel works really good on 4 strokes with all the extra oil thats in it. some guys are using 30% with great results..
I put a few more great flights in with my OS160 powered 74"..Luv this plane!!
Just my .02 cents..

RE: Extreme Flight RC Yak 54 - 74 inch!
Thats great to hear! Im almost tempted to order up a 160 but my wife would kill me.Just seems natural to have that engine in this plane .Everything works out with it you know ,comes out light and has good power and fuel efficiency. So far when the engine does "ok" on mine the hovering has been rock solid on the 18x6w even in the wind, something Im not used to with my smaller E planes.
If you can get more video when you start to get loose with it that be great. I love to see others fly! Especially this plane.

Same here this is the lowest I ever felt comfy hovering a plane. And the Harriers once you get the angle of attack right they seem to just stay there.
I have the tank in the stock location and it's fine there. Dont need a pump or anything..

RE: Extreme Flight RC Yak 54 - 74 inch!
Ok ,it was bit blustery, but I took her out this morning (incidence fix)
The uptrim is gone now.
Knifedge is much better and so is High Alpha flight.Just seems more stable when mushing around and "cleaner" when carving big patterns at cruise speed.Landing approaches seem better too.
It was quite windy,so I am looking forward to a more forgiving day next time.

RE: Extreme Flight RC Yak 54 - 74 inch!
This morning I was flying my yak and all of a sudden my canopy came off! It got stuck on one of my stabs. Fortunately it did not affect the flying too much and I was able to bring it in. As I was landing the canopy came loose from the stab and it's got a number of cracks. Hopefully I can get a replacement.
Looks the the hatch latch failed. The latch appears to be put in a block of balsa. The bottom of the block split which let the canopy go. This probably could have been prevented by gluing some ply to the bottom of the block or if they used spruce. Mine was one of the early versions that I picked it up over the winter...maybe it's been corrected.
I also recall seeing the hatch on the electric version come off during flight. I didn't get a chance to examine what happened because I assumed it was air pressure coming into the fuselage. I didn't have any openings letting air into my fuse.
I don't remember seeing this mentioned before, so I thought I should post a note. Otherwise it's a great plane.
