I currently have an EDF jet I need some help picking a power system for. It is an f-14 6lb arf 56" long 58" unswept wingspan...

My budget for this plane is pretty big and it is my first 90mm fan jet build. Im looking for as close to 1 to 1 thrust as possible and a half decent runtime.

Any advice?

That sounds too big for a 90. More along the lines of a 120. I'm building a Bob-E-cat right now, designed for a 90mm fan, and it's wingspan is only 45 inches.
What material? What kind of flight performance are you looking for? How much weight, retracts, scale details?

its a twin 90, and im looking for high performance. I have a power system picked but im wondering if I can do better.

2 x Mega 22/30/3
2 x tp 10S 5000s
2 x CC Phoenix 85hv
2 x Midi or Shub Ds-51

It is a fiberglass mold with ply formers, will have retracts w/brakes hopefully if i can find a rotating set small enough and I doubt twin 120s will fit.

Ahh, twin 90's. That sounds more like it. The Schubi fans are the way to go for ultimate performance, pair them up with the Neu motors and that should be the way to go. The biggest I've gone so far is a 70mm jet, and I'm in the same stage you are, researching power setups for 90's. PM me if you get a chance.

This thread sounds very exciting. I would love to hear other opinions.

Does any one have wattmeter readings from a similar setup?

If not what are the wattmeter readouts from your 90mm fan setups?

I would look into JEPE.ORG. JP has his spyder 3W1200 90mm fan unit that def. has an edge over the competition. More thurst, less weight, less amps/heat. There somewhere around 300 bucks each but I've seen them in action and the other guy's fan unit in action. Jepe def. performed better, smoother, faster ect... good luck.

jepe fan is an expensive midi fan really. wont make anymore power just holds up a tad longer at higher power levels. If you want some serious power go schubie DS-51 and a nue motots 1515 1.5Y on 9s per fan. for ESC run a castle 85HV. this will get you almost 8 pounds per side and about 2.3kw per side. Tam Jets has these fans plug and play with fan, motor, ESC and everything. the setup you described wont put out enough power for a model that size

Go with the midifans, power with Kontronic 600-17, jeti 70 amp opto, 3200 6s pack or three 2s packs, high performance 25C rating. this is a lower cost setup that will give you 1100 watts each fan, should be plenty. Doug
