A couple of quick questions. I'm going to put in the new ribs on each side of the tires. Since I'm putting in two new half ribs, is there a problem with removing the cut-out portion of the existing ribs so that I can retract the gear to set the proper rib angles? I can't see why it would cause any problems, but maybe I'm not seeing something that may come up when I sheet the wings. Second, I'm up to page 44 reading the thread, jotting notes down, but have not found the posts that discuss how much to sand off of the underside of the wings near the tips to incorporate the wingtip mods. Any clues?

That part gives the door section the proper shape if you sheath it with out that your doors might look a little on the flat side .You can cut them out than glue them back in at the same position and that would be ok JMHO

Before work, a bit of time spent on the Corsair. Got the wheel wells done, just need things to dry so I can sand the balsa and ply. I am going to work on the aileron mounts/tubes next. Thanks again for all the great advice.

What you have there looks good, and about the wing tips try checking everyouther page for about 40 page if not there back up on the one's you skipped, but it is there and if I get time in an evening I will try to help.

I know for sure the wingtip mods are in here,cause when i did mine I posted pics on it,I just spent the last 1/2 hour looking for it and came up empty. I know there here but where? I'll keep looking I'll PM you when I locate them.

I got the rib T-7 sanded down 1/8", and am doing the final sanding before sheeting. What a pain! Makes me realize how much more careful I need to be when I fit the parts together. Anyway, I still need to install my aileron wire tubes, flap wire tubes, and do some thinking on the aileron linkage. I think I'll use the type that Chris Spangenberg used in High Flight. I'll either mount the servo to the hatch or to the rib with some ply reinforcement. Maybe some more progress tomorrow...

On balancing if you build to the book with out lighting the tail end and you move the C/G fwd at least 3/8 and a stock G-62 you will nned some ware between 3 and 4 lbs,

I was thinking about the lead needed to balance the plane, and how the farther forward it's placed the less you need. What do you guys think about filling the dummy engine with the required lead shot and epoxy slurry, and then mounting the dummy engine on a plywood plate and then mounting that in front of the engine by means of three dowel stand-offs?
Just planning way way ahead.

I am not fond of that mass in front of the engine in case of disaster, but that is just me, like I said the area between F1 and F2 looked to me as a safer place, and I know some have added to the inside of the cowl and glassed over the weights. so you will have to decide what will work for you, and maybe Tim, George, or Winston may have a better suggestion

PS got another good flight on my bird, but the programming was still a little off and the wind came up so put things off for another day, But it flies great right ware you point it and is vary predictable

That is exactly what I did to ballance mine..your right the further up front the less weight needed......I hung lead weight to the back of the dummy engine which is mounted to an 1/8 inch ply backing.

you dont want to hang lead on the cowl. it is a non wt supporting piece. if it comes off you will crash. if you are using a g-62 look above the flywheel. You will see two bolts. you can add brakets to those and bolt lead dirctly to the motor. It works great!

Your Right Tim...but if you remember my earlier post my dummy engine is not mounted to the cowl it is mounted on three 1/2 inch standoffs which extend from the firewall to forward of the engine.. I don't remember what post contained the photo it was way back ....there is nothing hanging on my cowl...thanks for reminding me to explain that feature...I just thought I would agree with the weight being less the further in front of the engine as possible....

I think I mostly agree w/ Tim there RCpilot...You can get away with a little weight in the cowl ring I've found....I usually pour in some epoxy and some shot into the curved ring around the front, but I don't use a lot, cuz--like Tim says--it's a not weight bearing piece, and I don't want to hang all that weight on the cowl. I'll usually glass in the shot and epoxy, but I've never had any problem with it coming out or even loose....even after a long while. I just add some up there cuz it's about as far forward as a guy could get it. I'll add the majority of the weight into a hard mounted bracket usually where I can bolt it on. Too much weight on the cowl usually means loose cowl screws from vibration too.

GOt my Bomb pylons mounted today .I made them removable so if they cause adverse effects i can just remove them and use them only for show ( i hope they wont dont see why they would)
