all yak'ers I made the top 10 in the zenoah contest with the g20ei engine. this is great. this is truly a great plane i have over 50 flight's on it now. i cant get this thing to snap float's for ever. every one needs a seagull yak.

Congrats on making the top ten. I guess my choice was not that bad as I voted for you too. I am curious to know how much your model weighs with the G20 as I am thinking of using a similar combination, but might opt for a 16x8 prop instead.

Ok all you guys, I have decided to get me one of the Seagull Yak 54. Now can someone point me in the right direction to do so or is the best bet straight from Horizon.

Karolh,

Jason here I'm A manager of hobby central we have a couple hobby shops. we are in the top 3% hobby shops in the usa. I have one in the store. If you order from horizon it will take them aprox 2-3 to get ready to ship for you.If you want to call me at the store i can weigh it and tell you how much it will cost to ship to you. this is an over sized box for fed-ex or ups. i can send it both people for you.here is my web site. its still under construction we are rebuilding it. www.hobbycentralrc.com 1-850-471-9800. I'll see what i can do for you. the plane is 199.99 no tax on mail orders. on my web it is page 5 i beleave. i do know over size is like 16-18 extra dollars in shipping. my store hours are 10am to 9pm.

i think everyone here has decided that 5 1/2" from the leading edge at the fuse is the best place to start. hope you enjoy yours as much as i do mine!

Hey just got in from flying mine. I have an os 120 ax on it, fut 9202 on ail, and elev, jr 4735 on rudder and a fut 132 h on throt. It weighs 8 lbs 8 ozs. Did some of the lighting that I have read in this thread.t. Cut out the pilot, got rid of the landing grar bolt, replaced with nylon, drill some holes in landing gear, trim some on the firewall. was all so able to use the stock muffler without using the ext or 90 adpator. I was real inpress with the power it has

Just my two pennies worth, it makes no difference which way up you balance, it's the case of preference and what each individual finds easy.

Try it, balance it one way and then the other, you will find that the CG does not alter, if it were to alter we would have mega problems flying inverted and vice versa.

You balance low wingers upside down and high wingers right side up.
The CG is the CG, but the center of mass keeps the plane from tipping front to back. Its like the center of mass goes over center

I just purchased the Seagull YAD 54 from my local Hobby Shop, and started a couple of days ago putting it together. I plan to use a Saito 1.25 engine. Unfortunately, the stripes on the cowl do not line up with the stripes on the fuselage. If I align the right side of the fuse with the cowl, the stripes on the other side are between 3/16ths and 1/4th of an inch off. If I align the left side of the fuse with the stripes on the cowl, right side is off by the same amount. I called Horizon today and they are sending me a replacement cowl, but who is to say it isn't going to be the same as the one I got with the original ARF. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, what was your solution to the problem? Otherwise I would rate the quality of the YAK construction, etc., to be very, very good. Problem is the errant side of the plane looks like hell with the stripes being almost 1/4" out of alignment! I can only hope the replacement cowl has stripes that align with the fuse on both sides. I'll know by the end of the week.

I have one and two other guys at the flying field have them and the cowl stripes line up. The blue color is a tad off from the blue on the monokote. but the change is minimal

Its a Toni Clark setup, for more power and less noise. Also less $$ in the wallett
Excuse my ignorance, but what exactly is a Tony Clark set up, and where could I buy it? I am planning on getting a SM Yak with a G20ei, and I'm very interested in extracting the most power from this engine. Thank you!

Bubba, dyou still flying the yak? I left the wheel pants off mine and did some lightening on it. It is about 8 lbs 8ozs. I have an os 120 ax with stock muffler on it.
ORIGINAL: spoiler-man

I have been trying one of these out the last couple of week-ends. Seagull yak 90 with a TT120 pro engine header and beer can muffler Xoar 16x6 prop weight 9lbs. Surprise at how good it does fly. Rolling harriers, inverted harriers, flat spins and great inverted flat spins, hovers pretty good. I had it in a hover Saturday for quite a while and the motor leaned out the tale touched the ground first and then over on the wheels, didn't hurt a thing. I put a 2oz header tank on it Sat evening and Sunday it seemed to cure the problem with it getting lean, the tank is so far back from the engine that it is hard to pressure during hovers.
Pros- great flying plane 3ds very well and lands like a trainer. Good looking scheme. Good hardware.

Cons - wheel pants are to thin fluttered on first flight. Fuel tank is to far back needs a header tank. Upright harriers does have some wing rock. Landing gear and wing tube should be 6061T6 instead of cheap aluminum. I did bend a tube on their Edge in flight so I changed this one before first flight.

Toni Clark is the European didtributor for Zenoah. www.toni-clark.com
Down load the catalog and its on page 54, the catalog is 18 meg so could be a slow down load. The pipe and header run in the 150 Euro range

Jim, sorry for the slow reply haven't been on the foroms much lately. Yes I am still flying the Yak althought I did have a problem with battery not being charged properly one day and it decided to fly on its own, did crash with very little damage. I didn't try to lighten it due to it belongs to the hobby shop not me. Does fly very well, it hovers great and does some good rolling harriers, some wing rock on upright harrier but lock in solid on inverted. Can't seem to get any good flying weather lately so Tim, Andy,Myself and several others are hanging out at the hobby shop on Saturdays, if you get a chance come on down and do some hucking on the simulator. Merry Christmas to all.
Bubba
