Mine flys just fine with a Jet Central Bee, and you won't find anything cheaper.

Isn't the JJ1400 a 14# turbine? I would recommend getting a 14# over a 12# because there are a lot of more planes that fly well with 14 lbs. Plus you can always throttle back if you wish.

I hope you research your decision well. I don't wish to trash their product but based on what I have read I wouldn't consider a JJ.

Another option for an inexpensive turbine airframe, if you are a seasoned builder, is a modified Enforcer. I've been flying mine for 3 seasons now and have close to 200 flights on it. As a matter of fact Gabe at JJ got the idea for his from me. It's a great flier with no bad habits. The Falcon 120 is easier to fly and, depending on your experience, might make a better first jet.

A ziroli panther is pretty cheap to do and it's scale if that matters to you.

There are some good turbines for sale in the used section. There is a P-60 and a Bee, amoung others. Either of these would be a much better choice than a JJ and for about the same money. They will run and fly your jet, where you will spend more time shipping the JJ back and forth. This is just my opinion, but I own a Bee, and have had a bunch of Jetcats, and they work! Also a Baby Boomer is a great choice for a first jet. Bob

Perhaps the question should be a good jet for a 9 lb turbine. That's about all my flying buddy's JetJoe put out until it went bang & spat flaming debris over our flying field & set fire to the tailplane on his Baby Boomerang.

My advice would be before you purchase one of these things get to a few jet meets & see what brand turbines the regular flyers are using flight after flight, day after day and enquire about how happy they are about the service they recieve when their engines need work.

I was told that turbines are a bit like shoes. A $200 pair of shoes that fit beautifully, are comfortable and last for years & years are good value. A $20 pair that make your feet sore, gives you blisters & fall apart after a few weeks are not. - John.

Your Enforcer really looks good . What engine are you using in it, and how does it perform ?

What are some of the problems that you are hearing about with JJ ?

Any other JJ opinions from anyone else ? Are they not worth the cost ?

Please clarify ................ Did it blow up in the air, or after it hit the ground ?

Was it possibly operator error ?

Other JJ opinions please, from anyone ?

I initially had a Ram 500 on the Enforcer. I considered that a good match. Top speed was about 150 mph. After the Ram seized on me I put a Wren 54 on it. With the Wren it was clocked at 160 mph with a radar gun. Performance is now better with new bearings in the Wren. I'd guess about 165 - 170 mph.

What are some of the problems that you are hearing about with JJ ?
Use the seach feature at the bottom of the page and you'll hear plenty.

It went bang in the air, quite spectacular! Something must have broken loose or melted inside. Operator error? Not likely, these things are computer controlled & almost fool proof. (notice I said almost!) The engine was a problem child from day one & that was the final straw. It was repaired under warranty & sold as a going unit.

A jetcat P-70 was bolted in, fueled up, started perfectly first up with no adjustments at all & ran perfectly which it has continued to do for hundreds of flights so far. I think it's a fabulous engine & I don't even own a Jetcat. I know which engine is the better value for money between the Jetjoe & the Jetcat! - John.

ok here goes , i have a george miller f-4 phantom that i have lugging around with me everywhere i go from new jersey to ohio and now florida ,it uses a byron fan with a 91 the fan suppose to put out 13 pounds of thrust, plus or minus a pound or two, can i put a 12 to 14 pound thrust turbine in it , of course i will reinforce key section of the jet ,but , can it be done? cause if it can ,then I have my airframe ( which I hold close to my heart).

I would only recommend a JJ to someone who is an expert (like very familiar with ECU internal control parameters, can assemble and disassemble it, etc)

However it turns out those people are the first to stay away from the JJ... not worth the hassle...

Forget about them

And you wasn't in the field when Milton fired up his. Finally after many, many hours working with the dam little JJ engine he started it. That thing makes a ridiculus noise for its size. I bet is more noisy than your Rhino with bifurcate pipe rigth next to your ears. Not to mention that also the bearings sounds weird at that time. Milton said it has something to do with the mod. he did to the bearings seat lips. But he still not sure to put that engine in an airframe yet.

So definatly a JJ is not the best first engine to start with. Even if they are starting to look that they are fixing the bugs now, I still not recomend this one to begin with.

Hi jetint8ke,

Falcon 120 will fit the bill nicely - Check out the Dec/Jan issue of Jet International for a review of the Falcon 120. If you can't get hold of the issue let me know and I'll send you a copy of the article.

I would suggest that you reconsider buying a JJ turbine. I far better budget option IMO would be to buy a Wren 54 turbine kit, 14lb thrust guaranteed! The kit is really easy to put together with legendary support from Sara at Wren if needed, not that you are likely to need it.

HTH

Regards,
Eric

Wren 54 is your best option. most thrust for the size, good fuel economy and a reliable engine.

It REALLY should come down to VALUE. JunkJoe at cheap $ is a poor value compared to JetCat P60, Wren MW54, Artes bee, etc. I've said it before:

JunkJoe, for those that would rather fiddle than fly.....

Dave "never owned a JunkJoe, or ever will" Rigotti

AND I do know never is a long time!

I agree-and the kit is fun and easy to build. Plus you get a basic understanding of how a gas turbine compressor actually works. The mw54 kit is ideal for a beginner. Sure was for me
