270 is a little on the higher end of the temp range for a 28. It sounds like you piston my be swelling inside the sleeve. Is it harder to pull when it is hot? If it is try running a cooler temp plug and bring your engine temp down. Hope it helps.

I am not sure what brand your local hobby shop carries? If you ask your LHS they will guide you to the proper plug. Just let them know that you would like to lower your engine temp. Bring the name of your engine, the old plug and check what % nitro your running in your fuel and the guys at your LHS should be able to do the rest.

I believe that is a warm plug. You can try a MC #9 is a cold plug. If you want to try an os plug ( is what I use ) try this site http://www.osengines.com/accys/choosing-glowplugs.html

How much fuel has been run through it and what fuel are you running? 270 is not all that hot but is at the upper end. Do not run an OS plug as OS plugs are short plugs and STS engines take the standard long plug. Have you checked the head shimming after break in and re shim as needed? I have run hot plugs in my STS engines with 30% fuel with out a problem so a McCoy 8 or 9 should be OK.

hobby shops like that are what ruins the hobby, why can't they just help you out and move on? you're gonna be back anyways to buy fuel and plugs at least, why do they have to be "pissed" at us for not spending twice as much for something they sell that we can get online for half the price? that really p-ss-s me off. they need to focus on giving us what the online stores can't, face-to-face help. sts isn't "name brand"? what, just cause they don't cost $300 or $500? my 21b can put an "os v" anything in its place if i knew how to drive worth a lick yet. they can drive their os all they want but as they are taking it apart to change the piston/sleeve that wore out after 2 gallons i'll be lapping them, more. I hate that! theres a local hobby shop here i avoid like the plaigue now because they said that about my redcat, and guess what they sell now and can't keep on the shelves, redcat[:@][:@][:@]

Taken care of properly a STS will out last a OS VG with its ABL sleeve at least 2 to 1!!!!!!!!!! Like most engines STS has a ABC sleeve which is proven more durable then the ABL!

well its been though about 3 gallons. all track and the temps have never been about 290 and that was only cause i was running very low on fuel. 1 time for a very short time.
i keep the tank pretty full cause like i said its a bi%$h to start back up. it is very broke in, little to no pinch when cold.
it runs like a champ and the hotter it gets the better it goes. i when its under 240 its to rich. it sounds funny, 260-280 it screams like a beast. but it jsut wont start back up, with out a lot of work. like it just doesnt get any fuel or somthing.

Did this problem just start or have you had it from the get go? Is it the 3 port or the 5 port STS 28? What type of starting system and fuel are you using? I have 4 STS engines 3 are 21 and I have the 3 port 28 in my Savage and they all start and run just fine. Some of them have 5 plus gallons on them.

Are you running the O’Donnell Ready 2 Run or the race blend? Is the head shimmed properly for 30%? After running out of fuel do you prime after filling the tank and does the fuel stay in the line?

I don;t know if this is true or not, but I heard, the alum shim on the head is for break-in and needs to be removed after break-in to run right, but both of my STS are running fine with it in, so I don't know.

my STS 30 rev2 runs in the 290's and a little rich, but its fine, never had a problem starting it, my STS 21B runs is the 240 - 260 somtimes 270's and it starts when hot. the only thing I've seen on starting my STS engine, which I see strange, is they, well my 21B only starts when lean, but runs good when tad rich, but haven't noticed that on the 30.

and make sure there no air leaks.

The instructions that come with the engine plainly explain about shimming the head for different nitro contents. Here you go in case you do not have the instructions.

I heard thats for break-in or bashing or somthing, that you could run .4mm - .3mm for 30% if you race, or wanted more power/compression.

For break in you run all the shims then after break in that is what STS recommends. Yes you can increases compression but if you go to far you can hurt the engine. Just like using different glow plugs to adjust timing but once again if you do not know what to watch out for can cause engine problems. If you do not know what to look for best to go with what STS recommends.

the guy I bought mine from is the first person to tell me I could go .4mm on 30%, but you right, if you don't know, then stick with what STS says.

I think 1 1/2 gallons on the 21B and I don't think I've even ran my 30 since the last time me and you talked I've been using my CRT as my project car (PM if you want to know what the project is)

Heres a video of the last time I drove http://rcuvideos.com/item/L9W8LX570VXLTCJ1 hopfully more videos to come (and better ones)

Are you running 30% with the 4mm shim set up? If so have you pulled the head and check out the top of the piston? I will be starting next year with a new Hyper 8.5 with a new STS D21T MKII. I have one STS D21B with well over 5 gallons on it still running fine.

it starts cold, runs fine when it's hot, but won't start hot? that sounds very much like vapor lock to me.. in other words the carbs getting that hot it boils the fuel before it gets to the carb...

quick fix, pour some fuel from the fuel bottle over the carb to cool it down and quickly start it before heat from the block saturates the carb again.

no, not yet. haven't needed to remove any shims, but probably will one day (don't ask me when)

EDIT: I might mess around with it when I mod it, but don't know when thats gona be, maybe when I figure out what I'm doing

I agree with ttoks. What is happening is that is it so hot inside the engine, when you try and start it, the fuel in the combustion chamber is just evaporating before it has a chance to burn, thus it wont start
