i have a school project and am wanting to scratch bulid a rc plane, I am wanting to bulid a simple seaplane that will take a O.S. .25 and is something easy to bulid for someone with no experience

Scratch build as in get plans, go buy all the materials, build airplane? Or Scratch build as in buy a kit and build it? Now adays there are few people that understand scratch building.

Just to follow that last post, I have always felt that a "scratch build" was to buy balsa and glue and go from there. No plans or precut wood included.

As far as the subject, that brings back memory's as back in junior high shop I scratch built an air boat with an OS 10... fun times. Good luck with your project.

Scratchbuild to me means that it was not a kit or ARF.

One design that appeals to me is the Seamaster. Flat planing hull, with the engine on a pod above the wing. I have seen these scudding around in big circles on a lake, without tripping up! Recently I have thought of buying a cheap ARF (like the World Hobby's Sky Raider Mach I) and building a Seamaster type hull to match the wings. In your case I would pick a 25 size trainer with a flat bottomed wing and size the rest to match.

The Seamaster (40 size) plan can be found here: http://plans.rcmodell.hu/plansport.html or a google search will soon find it somewhere on the web. The file is a dxf CAD format - opens and prints with Turbocad etc.

Hey - you forgot - grow own balsa!

Face it - most model planes include borrowed design elements, parts, bit of this, bit of that - we are talking idea's here!

The young guy starting this thread has a Cub wing - help him out and offer some ideas on how he can be successful with his project!
