Default Lanier Radical 330 ARF

Does anyone know anything about the Radical 330 ARF by Lanier? It looks like the Extreme 330 by Goldberg.

I purchased one for $99 and its a great profile flyer. I have it powered by a ASP 80 4 stroke, and it is a very areobatic plane. Can do just about everything your heart can desire (Blenders, inverted flat spins, snap rolls, water falls, hovers nicely, and more.

Airborne,

Do you know of any threads for this ARF? Did you find it an enjoyable build or did you have problems? I bought from Lanier only once and was not satisfied with the quality and the customer service. I'm reluctant to buy from them again but I have heard so many good things about the Extreme 330 and this plane seems like the same model except for the way the aileron servos mount.

.........and the way the throttle servo mounts.

This is an excellent plane ! I bought a spare ! I`m using jr-811`s & a hitec hs-85 for throttle. A OS 46 SF/ABC WITH PUMP swinging an apc12.25x3.75 prop. This old racing motor screams ! I have someone always trying to buy my plane, it weighs 4.25 lb`s & has no bad habits. I love to hover, waterfall, then pinwheel & go into an up-right flat spin, & then end up in an inverted hairrer !

Im looking to buy this plane as well..

As far as lanier and there quality and customer service its not that bad.. I purchased a 25 percent 540 edge, and after the second flight I had the fuse snap in half at the leading edge of the wing during a tip stall about 4 feet of the ground on landing.. I thought this plane broke to easy bumping the ground the way it did so I called lanier and explained what happened and he said they dont warranty this but he would send me a new kit at a discounted price.. When i got the new fuse i noticed the it had more wood structure in the fuse and looked stronger. I have had the lane 4 years now and its a great plane.

I have not bought the Radical but I found a used Goldberg Extreme 330 for sale at a great price so I bought it. They are very similar. So far it's been a blast to fly.

I noticed Tower has the Radical 330 for sale now since Great Planes bought Lanier and Goldberg. [link=http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXSVE2&P=7]http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXSVE2&P=7[/link]

There are no pictures but you can download the manual for free. Lanier use to charge for that service. The price is still reasonable and with the discounts Tower offers it makes this one of the best bargains available for a profile.

An APC 12.25x3.75 is the best prop I've found here at around 2000'. I'm flying the Extreme 330 with a .46FX.
Good Luck,

I have a 55AX on a 40 size GP Extra and am using a 12x7 APC. The engine is new and that is one of the suggested "break in" props. Don't know how it would work on the profile though. It really pulls the Extra around with authority. Very short take off run and unlimited vertical. Good luck!

hi i got my radical about a month ago. the 55 ax is good for this profile since i fly at 7000 ft a 46 wont pull out of a hover. the plane is really easy to fly. i am now learning how to hover it. be carefull with the recomended throws they are not enough to fly the plane i will say that you should almost duplicate them. the plane is a really good glider, i had seven dead sticks out of 9 flights. problems with the new engine. i will recomend standard servos exept for throttle, not listed in tower a standad wont fit, minis are required, use a 13x4 apc best prop, i need to try a 12.25x3.75. inverted flyight is exellent, i like to pass the airplane inverted with 1/4 of throttle. knife edge is very good. i will recomend all throws in high rate at 140% and 70% of exponential(plane is easly landed in high rates)

pushrodes and linkages of alierons had to be replaced not a perfect fit.

any questions email me.

pics are coming soooooon

If someone has the time, I would like to know setups and weights. The people that poo poo this plane say that it has too heavy a wing loading. The specs say its lighter and has more wing area than a lot of planes out there in the same class. It seems like some are not being completely honest and just trying to push other brands. I can't find anyone on the web that has one that hates it. I would think at the least it would be a good 3D trainer.

Pictures would be nice and a video if possible.

I am thinking about ordering this airplane. I am learning 3-D (slowly) with a foamy electric 3-D Yak. Do you feel this profile will be good to learn on with a OS46SF or should I look at something else? One reason I like this airplane is that it is available and not on Back Order and appears to be a good flying aircraft.

Thanks,

James

James,

I have the Goldberg Extreme 330 which looks to be identical and I like it fine. There are a few Extreme 330's at our club and people love them. It's not a Chinn Yak or a Swaney MoJo but it's a good plane at a bargain. I had one with a 46 on it and it flew nice. My current 330 has a ST 51 on it and has plenty of power. I'm no master of 3D but I have a good time and draw a few wow's from the peanut gallery.

I just ordered a spare for $70. I don't know if they are having a sale or what. I just stumbled across it. This is lower than the sale price advertised. I ordered a bottle of thin CA and used a coupon code and got it shipped for $70.

Coupon code 010NP

Hey! Did you get the free hat?

It's crazy! You go to other spots on Tower and it still checks out at $120!!!!!!!!!! And no free hat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I plan to put different landing gear on mine. I would like to figure out how to attach wire gear. I think it would limit damage to the fuse on rough landings.

I also want to eliminate that tube thing for the servo wires going to the tail. I think I'll run the wires out the TE of the wing right next to the fuse to keep the run shorter. I saw another modeler take the pins for the servo extensions out of the plastic connector and heat shrink them or solder them together.

Like this out of a Mojo manual

I tested the free shipping code and got a message in red like you are talking about but when you look at the total it still had "$00" for shipping. You should always Google "Tower Hobbies coupon codes" before you order anything from them. It may take some trial and error to find one that will work but they are usually better than the ones you get in the mail or on the Tower site. You put the codes in the shopping cart view.

i fly with likestofly,he was the first in the club to get one, this plane is too good to pass up for 60bux. i flew his and was really impressed, that night my dad bought one to learn 3d on. this thing is a winner in my book, we've had his flying for about a year, first major crash into a trash dumpster on saturday at about 3/4 throttle, very very minimal damage. his is loaded with tt.46pro w/tower pipe, ds821 on surfaces,hs85 on throttle, hovers at 1/2 throttle. this thing will do it all and come back for more, rollers, harriers, torque roll, flat spins, blenders, full throttle walls-upright/inverted(ask likestofly what happened to my mojo doin f/t walls). i bought one when i saw it on sale, i'm going to beat the crap out of it and laugh the whole time because i only spent $58.99 with the discount code.

go buy one, put some cheap gear in it and dont look back.
no regrets here.

Matt.

Tower finally got all their Lanier links fixed. Looks like they dropped the price of several Lanier ARF's.

You couldn't buy a kit, hardware and covering to build your own for $70. Mine should be here soon.
