Default Help with 3pm FASST

Ok, I tried this in the general forum and got nothing. So, I have a sportwerks recoil that I changed out all the radio gear on. I used my 3pm 2.4 w/ 603ff RX. I have a futaba 303 speed control. With the stock 1100 mah motor pack, the RX goes into failsafe on full throttle. I can ease up to full and it will work, but stop to full will drop the system volts low enough to put it into failsafe. I added a novak cap to the battery input leads (per novak's web site), but that didn't help. With a 1400 mah battery it's ok, but I'm afraid that it will kick in during a race. Any ideas on how to fix this? I was thinking about putting a cap on the radio side of things, but I'm afraid of smoking either the power bus on the RX or the BEC on the ESC. TIA for any help.

I am seeing very similer problems with my 3pm fass also. it wants to frezze affter letting off throtle, for only about 2-3 seconds then away we go again. it seems very concictent though, from full throtle to no throtle, I can make it do it two out of three times. I had a two runaways in the past three days also. bolth at different locations. it only ran for about 2-3 seconds.. thank god!!I'm asuming it has something to do with failsafe? But not sure.

YES I have programed and re-programed and had it to the local hobbie shop, they had look and coun't figure it out. they say to send it back to futaba.

It is in an emaxx with the HV novak 6.5 with maxamps 6000 lipos. with the can on ecsI tryed today to run a 4cell regargeable reciver pack and It still shuts down on me. It has been very frustrating from day one with this radio. More the learning curve.

have not contacted futaba yet, But will have to cuse I have run out of ideas to fix this problem.

Default RE: Help with 3pm FASST

while driving the truck just stops, I lose all control( it normaly doesn't run away) it's like it freezes like it lost power to every thing.. Then wait 2-3 sec then away it goes again.

Normaly it happens when I'm at full throtle and let off compleatly.then it freezes.
If I drive realy easying on throtle, and easying off throtle it seems better(does not cut out as much)

I have checked the plug and wireing, all seems ok.
I tryed re binding reciver/transmiter again.
I tryed re-programing the lipo cut off switch.
I have tryed useing a 4 cell receiver pack direct to the receiver( to eliminate any problems with the ECS)
Or could it be the nest of wires? tucked between the reciver and tranny ( that is the lipo cutoff)

I thought of trying a 5 cell receiver pack, but the hobbie guy said "not to use 5cell unless I disconect power wire to/from ECS..as not to over volt the reciver..

Is this true?
would it be ok to try 5 cell with out disconecting wire to receiver.
I understand I DO NOT turn on power at ECS..
Or is that what I did wrong with the 4 cell.not turning on the ECS power switch.

ANY thoughts

I was just reading about bec systems on other post,Is it possible I need to install one of these seperatly.

novak 6.5 brushless on 2 7.4 6000maxamps lipos wired as one 14.8. With one plug and jumped across at the ECS

CrazyCooydog,

We have ordered up some parts and will check this here in our service center to see if we can duplicate this problem for you.

I will let you know our findings sometime by the beginning of next week.

Thank you Krysta.

Today I tryed it again only to have it run away again, however tryed affter work with only the site super, his assitant and myself on site..It did seem better less shut down, and no runaway....till Super and assitant came very close to where I was standing, the problem got worse instantly..We got talking about cell phones and radio noise, then assistants phone beeped ( it's a mic phone) and this is when I saw some interferance with the R/C. We played a bit with all our phones and it seemed to efect the r/c.

Is this possible.

I have heard that blue tooth phones can mess with radio transmissions, even spectrum.

I also have a brand new 3pm tx/rx that keeps running away.

I have tried different failsafe settings etc and it still runs away for some reason.
It runs away at wherever the servos are set at the time, and goes out of my control for like 2.5 to 3 seconds.
Just enough time it hit a concrete block and broke the front of the car. :-(

It is in a turmoil pro running an ace 1015 and a 1313 digital servos.
2000 mAh lipo on a castle creations regulator set at 6 volts.

The whole car is brand new and I am trying to get it broke in properly. I am not sure what is going on with this. Maybe it is my installation? everything in the radio box,..antenna in the antenna tube and sticking out of the car.

I bought this radio to avoid things like this and now having a very hard time trusting it.

Well, I was going to buy this system but I think I'll wait now. Kind of a bummer, too. I've always been a fan of Futaba and love my 9C air system.

I did get mine figured out

with running lipos, the ECS was getting over voltage spikes and shutting down power to the reciver.I instaled a voltage regulator and ALL PROBLEMS are gone.
It works like it's supose to.
Try running a 5 cell reciver battery pack direct to the reciver,BUT REMEMBER to disconect the red power wire from the ECS to reciver. If all works fine then you need to use reciver pack or figure out if your over voltage or under voltage. then install regulator. hope this helps.

SVO
re-check all your wireing. then if you can have some one else check it( two sets of eyes are better than one) I made a few simple mistakes when installing mine. even affter checking and re-checking i coun't see the problem.

Is Your lipo cut off set properly?(That was my first problem)

I am hearing that I need to to remove the voltage regulator from the battery box and mount it somewheres outside the box so it dont overheat.

Currently I have it inside along with the receiver and battery.

I have not had a chance to mess with it today,.will try tommorrow if it will stop raining.

I am betting that it is my setup and not the tx/rx fault. Thinking about what happened,... It is like it was losing power to the servos and not like interference with signal. That also explains why the failsafe settings were not going into effect.

ok,..update,,,,

I got to thinking,.. I do not need to actually drive the car to test what is going on with it. DOH me.

ok
with the castle creations regulator and lipo pack , I can cycle the servos over and over and after a few minutes,.. the red led comes on the receiver and everything stops for 2 seconds then resumes control.

I programmed the regulator using the castle link and pc. Tried many different output voltages from 4.8 to 6.0 volts and problem still exists with all voltage settings.

This is with everything out of the radio box and spread out as far apart as I can get it.

Now I took out the lipo and regulator and just used a regular nicad 4.8 pack. Cycled the servos over and over for a long time and cannot get it to malfunction. All is working well this way.

So it has to be something with the regulator not being compatible.

Am I using the wrong type regulator for this particular application?

I have checked and double checked all connections and solder joints and they all seem fine.

Maybe I should just run a NiMh receiver pack instead of lipos.

yes, That's the same one.

I will just got get a NiMh battery to use for now until I find out what is wrong.

The only other thing I know to try would be to resolder the receiver plug since I did shorten it.
Maybe there is a cold solder joint in one of the wires? They all looked good when I soldered them the first time.
I know of nothing else to check.

I just got this yesterday and finally installed it. I am having problems with the radio. I power on the radio and set the EPA, Trim and ABS. Everything works fine until I turn of the radio and turn it back on. All settings default back to factory settings. It is getting annoying . I plan on calling technical support or returning it for an exchange. Unfortunately it was the only one at the LHS. Maybe I should try the Nomadio React.

Has anyone else have this problem?

just thought .. are you waiting about 2-3 mins before turning off power. It seems like it's not getting enough time to "set"as a part of programing.

posted this in another thread but here it is again....Just got a 3pm Fasst and like the radio much better than stock but the DT2 switch is very sinsitive and does not click like the rest of them. I wasa wondering if this is the norm for everyone else? I'm going to the LHS where I got it tomorrow after I get off work and have them look at it. Part of me wants to get a screw driver and crack the puppy open and see if something is loose but don't want of void the warranty. Any input is appreciated.

I finally got around to trying a different regulator (losi) and it works good.

My problem has to be something with the castle regulator.

I have one more thing to REcheck and that is my soldering of the wires to the connector. If that proves to be good, then I will be sending the regulator back to have it checked out.
