Yes, it is a 4". I believe it is a Pete's Model CF. It came with the engine when I bought it off of the Classifieds here. It is just slightly large, 3.5" would match the cowl contour better.

Guys, will Hitec 5955s on all five flight surfaces be overkill? Is it just needed on the rudder, and can lesser torque be used on the elev and ails? If so what torque or servo? I want the right torque, and don't want to waste money where not needed. I saw one post on this thread where someone is using the 5955 on rudder, 5645 on the other 4. What about the rest of you guys? Thanks. Jon

I'm looking to use the exact same setup on my kit. Looking at the manual, it says to have 130 oz for ELEV, 100 oz for AIL, and 150 oz (250 oz recommended) for the rudder. Throttle can be a std. servo. What is everyone else finding as a good setup?

On my WH Edge I use the 5955 on rudder, 5645's on ailerons and 5945's on the elevators. I like the 5945's on the elevators because they are a little faster than the 5645's. I will probably go with 5955 on rudder and 5945's on everything else on my PAU Extra because thats what I have in my inventory. I think the 5955's all around is definitely overkill. Just my opinion, though.

RE: Performance Aircraft Unlimited 30% Extra 330l SALE!!!
I did the 5945's on my 88 inch Yak and flew it hard and long. I sealed the wings and tailed with ultra coat. After 40 hours of hard snaps, walls and all that stuff you can get with these things I found that there was just enough play in the 5945's in the wing to cause a very sligh (but definate) flutter on a 1/4 throttle inverted pass. I might have changed them out with Titanium but already had 5945's as spares so in they went.
40 hours is a lot of flying. If you are one of those people that keep planes around for more than one season and find the upgrade in price to say the titanium units bearable it might be the least expensive in the long run.
If you are one of those who blow up their planes on a regular basis and get new servo's anyway............naaahhh.[8D]
This has my experience FWIW. BTW I am a very firm believer in energy managment and cold think of flying styles much more harsh than what I do to my airframes.

It is also worthy to note that one of the changes Hitec made when phasing out the 5945 and bringing in the 5985 was to beef up the area (I think it is called the Pot) where mine actually wore out. Maybe the 5985's would last much longer.
Food for thought.

What style of spinner are most of you using? I'm torn between an Ultimate or the Extra. Anyone have any side pix to show spinner flow from the cowl?
Thanks,

Anyone put smoke in their plane? I stuffed mine in the canister box and mounted it to the framing overhead. Very solid and also very hidden. It's a Sullivan Skywriter controllable pump with an 8 oz. tank set.

Here are a couple of side view pictures. This is a 3.5" inch Pete Models carbon fiber spinner.
I believe I measured the CG from the leading edge by the fuselage. I thought I had downloaded the manual so that I could double check what the manual said but I did not find it.
I looked at their website and they have already taken it down.

jpgraham,
looks like you got one of the shipping damage cowls? My original cowl was cracked on the left just like yours. Did you do some cutting in the first pic?

I have 20 oz tanks in my Pitts and my Edge and get about 8 minutes of good smoke, I would go with a larger tank if it will fit, try to get it on the CG if you can. I don't think you will get much smoke time with an 8 oz tank.

CS,
Yep that was one of the first units made that had the damaged cowls.
Since PAU/BME shipped me a new cowl I took advantage in having a spare to use for triming. So I played around and trimmed the cowl to see how I wanted to trim the final cowl.
The B366GT has a horn on the carb and I opened a hole on the side of the cowl to see if I wanted to leave it on but I decided after doing this that I would just cut the horn off of the carb and keep the cowl pretty clean. Only major trim areas were the bottom portion of the cowl to fit the exhaust and the head.
Really wish I would have had the money to purchase another one of these aircraft as it is a sweet airplane. Wish they would talk about its replacement. The Edge and the Yak are nice looking planes but I do like the extra too.

There is a ton more room in there as you can see from the pix, and I could go with something like a 12-14 oz. I went with the Pete's Model 3.5 Extra style as well, just waiting for the delivery from Chief. Herve sent me clarification that the CG is measured from the LE of the wing at the fuse-great service from PAU!

Amazing how there are so many damaged cowls! My cowl from AKM is also damaged, but very much less than yours, John! I got a perfect replacement from AKM last week though so all is well here too. Mine by the way, was also cracked on the top left corner, but just a lesser degree. Jon

RE: Performance Aircraft Unlimited 30% Extra 330l SALE!!!
Do not count my cowl in this round as my aircraft is over a year or more old as it was number 9 off the line. The damage was from the first shipments that PAU/BME sent out. The problem is at the factory and not from PAU or AKM. I know after the first issue PAU started looking at those that came in and corrected the issue. AKM will need to do the same thing as it seems this factory has a real problem with quality control. Got a few laughs going to their website as I was cruising the manual to answer someones question on CG location and found something interesting.
AWC if you look at page 19 step 28 the note there tells you the location for the cg check. Here is a copy of the note:
You got to love it when companies just openly steal from other companies as if you look at the manual at AKM it is actually the manual from BME, how do I know that besides the the first picture well check out the Other aircraft list that is X out in the manual on their website.

John, if you have the itch for another 50cc'er, the Edge really is a great machine. Mine is in the final stages of an engine swap, from a Brison (that recently took a dump) to a new DA-50. I can't wait to get it back in the air! A great plane for hot-dogging for sure.

Ryan,
If I was in the market right now it would be a toss up between the PAU Edge and the Extreme Flight Extra as I think they are two of the best 50ccr's out there on the market. It is not just about the airplane but how you are treated after you purchase the aircraft. But you are right in that the Edge would be a good choice and a company that I will look into when the time comes.
