RE: Nitro Guide and FAQs
One other thing: the Associated manual said I could plan on going through a glow plug during break-in and another one while tuning. I stocked up and bought eight spares from the outset thinking that I would go through them like the proverbial flowing water. But, I'm still on my first. Talk about overkill, I really thought that these plugs died easily/quickly.

your engine sounded angry because when you adjust the hsn, the lsn is also affected, think of the hsn as the spiggot, and the lsn as the sprayer, turn down the spiggot and you turn down the sprayer, you just need to adjust the lsn, us telling you everything cant do nearly as much as you just trying things for yourself, the amount of feet before it shifts is totally irrelevant, when it shifts you will definately hear it, you'll know when it happens, if you have broken in your engine already, switch the plug, during breakin little tiny peices of metal melt to the coil, they usually last around a gallon or so, and throttle trim is just for minor adjustments, i used mine when i was warming it up, if you have AIM my screen name is Lethal1ty17, feel free to IM instead of making alot of posts, nothing wrong with that but more arent always better

RE: Nitro Guide and FAQs
Thanks for the explanation about needing to lean the low speed needle after leaning the high speed needle. I apologize: it was not my intent to clutter up this thread with 'stupid' or frivolous questions. But evidently that is what I did. I will refrain from posting further on this thread and will ask my questions through the backchannels you suggested. Thanks again.

I thought that if you richen the hsn then you need to lean out the lsn,and if you lean the hsn you need to richen the lsn.

RE: Nitro Guide and FAQs
i have an O.S. 21VZ-B V-Spec-T, been trying to tune it at the track but cant get it to run right without it reaching 250-260. if i try to bring the temp down it just runs too rich, could this have anything to do with the mixture needle? should i just leave the mixture needle at factory settings and tune only LSN and HSN? or would this be normall op temp for this kind of engine?
thanx.

the mixture needles are the hsn and lsn, as long as you have sealed for air leaks and have adequate airflow, then 260 is fine, if you are running hard then thats not a problem

RE: Nitro Guide and FAQs
on the O.S. V-Spec there are 3 needles (not including idle needle) the needle im talking about is right under the HSN opposite to the LSN.
OH so 260 would be fine to run on this motor? yeah i was running it kind of hard but it ran perfect until i temped it and got scared. unless someone says otherwise i guess ill just let it run at the 240-250 range.
thanks.

you probably mean the mid speed needle, usually you dont have to touch those much, just make sure you have good airflow, that your engine is sealed from airleaks, using a good fuel, and tuned for a clean, crisp throttle response and dont worry about the temps, its a v-spec, a racing engine meant to deal with some heat, i would say 260 while racing isnt bad

yeah i was kinda thinking the same thing when the track owner came off at 250 on his Sirio and his car looked dialed. i asked him what his temp was and he didnt seem to bothered by it so i guess its OK to race at that temp. i guess we'll find out when the con rod comes out the case. lol.

RE: Nitro Guide and FAQs
well with the HSN you just drive it at full throttle
and adjust it soo it has a smooth top end
and the LSN you let it sit for 30 and give it over 1/2 thottle
and adjust it if it stalls or whatever, listne how it sounds
but what do you do for the mid range needle?
cheers

RE: Nitro Guide and FAQs
Yeah...I always tune the LSN first then set the top end for the HSN. For me, I found it hard to even do HSN is my engine is too lean from idle or too rich from idle. So I do LSN first, getting it to start and idle without dying would be everyones first step right? Yea, so if your LSN is not tuned right, it wont even reach top end if ur always flodded with fuel or out of fuel from an idle. After that is set, go and set the High end and adjust for speed. Thats my way, don't know what the heck you guys are doing, but thats how I deal with it. Just make sure that you set the HSN at factory before you start the engine, and tune the LSN first.

And how do we judge the temp if we dont have enough money for a temp gun? can we tell by a nice crisp sound and a combinition with the amount of smoke from the pipe?

RE: Nitro Guide and FAQs
tune it to where it has a clean crisp throttle response and a smooth power curve all the way to the top, then put a drop of water, if it pops and sizzles like that then its too hot

Is this guide even necesarry? All you need to know (including what fuel to use) is in the booklet when you purchase your rc car.
