darnnit,keeps eating up spur gears!!!!
i have a upgraded nitro sport 2.5R and yesterday i was only using it for about 30 minutes and the all of a sudden the slipper starts screaming[:@].i go to check it and all of the teeth....yes all of them are worn right down and the slipper pads created so much friction during the abuse that one side melted into the gear.plus it was one of the best days in a while to use my vehicle and the day got ruined.it seems like when the best times to use your rc it decides not to let you.how many of you have had this happen in any circumstance?

doesnt' matter the cb size as long as you set the mesh right...........also you want your slipper to be the weakest part of your transmission that way you don't break things deeper in the transmission....also in that picture it seems to me you had your slipper a lil to loose for the conditions you were running at.
ON ROAD- ALL THE WAY TIGHT
OFF ROAD/LOOSE DIRT/GRAVEL- AROUND 1/8-1/4 TURNS OUT
Hope this helps

Yea that spur gear was either put on way too loose, or the mesh was off. The Robinson Racing Steel Spur gear should be a good thing to have, I have a rc10gt Transmission fully loaded with those gears and never had a problem.

I wouldn't upgrade to a steel gear until you find out the real reason you're stripping gears. If the mesh is set right and the slipper isn't too loose it will last a long time. My brother put an OS 18CVR in his nitro sport, broke it in, and has since ran about 1/2 gallon of fuel thru it with the same spur gear....and that gear was on the truck when it had the old motor. My stampede is the same way, been running the same stock 70T plastic gear since last summer, and I am running the OS 18CVR too. We both beat the living hell out of our trucks, jumping them off 3 foot ramps at full speed, etc. No stripped gears yet.
Install a new spur gear, tighten your slipper nut down all the way, then back it out about 1/2 turn. This is a good starting point. Also, after you make sure the mesh is right, tighten down those motor mount screws so it doesn't move back and unmesh the gears.

RE: darnnit, keeps eating up spur gears!!!!
the only time i have this problem is when the clutch is not meshed right with the spur I'm guessing you mounted the engine in a hurry so you can see what it will do and overlooked the gear mesh and had the slipper a little loose for the extra power were all guilty of this at some point just get the stock gear take the time to install it correctly and i doubt you have any more problems

the slipper on a nitro sport should be set at 1/4 turn out no more than 1/2 on dirt any more than that and you risk doing what you did. and the reason for a tighter setting on road is mostly because increased traction allows you to put more power to the ground

RE: darnnit, keeps eating up spur gears!!!!
the slipper is to get power under control chris-rc is right. the size of the spur does matter it will make your car have more bottem or top end.
anyway alot of people say do not run steel gears cause you do not need to or you need to keep a weak point or they have never had a problem. i have had my car for 8 years and i have had all kinds of gearing problems and clutch and slipper you name it. i now run steel gears all of them my dif is steel my idler is steel my top shaft is titanium my spur is steel and my clutch bell is steel. i have never had a problem with my gears sence they are fine. i also feel the heavier spur makes the car run alot better with the weight of the gear. i would say buy the steel or do not but for me i can tell you with 99% confidence i have purchased my last set of gears for that car lol well except the 19 or 20 teeth clutch bell i will be getting tomorrow just for gearing purpases.
i also run a robinson slipper clutch and i have sence never had a prblem with that (all my gearing is robison). here is a picture of my spur gear and slipper(this was the best one i could find).i do not have a picture of it but i also run a titanium break.i believe that to will never be replaced. plastic wears steel and titanium do not well atleast for our application they do not.

Really, that tight??? On my XXX-NT the manuel says to run the slipper at 5 turns out. I would think you would have to looksen it on-road since you get more "bite" you could say and it would strip the spur. When I go to my track I run 4 1/2 just to get all the power under control.

The RC10GT's best brake system I have ever used is the Crescenzi GT Brake System. Best one money can buy and virtually fail proof.
