Actually, all Q500's with shoulder wings and V-tails look like Quik-V clones, so everybody can send their royalties to Jim Allen. [>:]

Realistically it's almost impossible to come up with an original Q500 design. There are very few different shapes, nose/tail moments, ect, that haven't yet been used, so part of any given airplane is going to look like another. I've seen the Ninja, and while it resembles a Slingshot, I can't say it's a clone as I haven't compared the two side by side. Being that I didn't hear of Darrol Cady complaining about it in Phoenix (as he'd one with a lot to lose if it was, since he's the exclusive supplier of Slingshots), I'd say it's probably not.

Right now I'm just glad to see another competitive airplane out racing. If it does nothing but reduce the wait time for people to get a new airplane, it's a benefit.

The way to create an original Q-500 these days is not in the outside shape as the rules restrict this so much, but in the way it is engineered and manufactured. We want accuracy and exact duplication from one plane to the other. We need durability and ease of construction. We want it to be fast and hopefully eventually reasonably priced. Also available without long lead times. This will be important to the growth of this sport and I find this new model exciting as it is another step in that direction.

As long as it's a recognizable "rectangular" cross section (rather than some other shape), then I wouldn't have an issue

Ah, Gary. Think back to the discussions on wing platform (Havoc).

The rules are what they are. I could drive a truck through them (and have) and they get modified every few years. It's been that way since I suggest using a "diamond shaped" rectangular fuselage back in 1980 on a design to Phil Busell and the rules were changed. When I used a laminated phenolic impregnated wood prop in Formula One, that got ruled out. Running a prop with one blade smaller got snuffed and it worked very well too. The wonderful wingspan restrictions were nearly put in place during the F1 days, when only I had it, because it blew all the existing airplanes into the weeds.

There are still many interesting things that can be done within todays rules that will raise the bar. Everyone sees the obvious, which is useful for hiding the subtle.

Anyone got their hands on one yet? I'm still waiting to receive a tracking for mine, ordered last thursday. Who knows maybe I'll get the plane before the tracking number?

I began working on my two Ninja's yesterday, and they are really nice for the money. Everything fits beautifully, and lines up really well. Here is the assembly of the planes:

1. Open Box
2. Install wheels to Landing Gear
3. Bolt landing Gear to fuselage
4. Bolt Engine to Firewall
5. Install Aileron Torque rod studs
6. Bolt in Aileron Servo
7. Hook up Aileron Pushrods
8. Install Servo Tray in fuselage
9. Bolt Servos to Servo Tray
10. Make CF V-tail Pushrods
11. Connect Pushrods to Tail
12. Bolt tail on
13. Install Throttle Pushrod
14. Install tank and fuel lines
15. Install Rx,battery,and switch
16. Set-up Radio
17. Bolt Wing on Fuel and Fly

I'm currently at step 8. Seriously, If a person had all the supplies/ additional hardware on hand and about 5hrs of time...you could go from box to the air in one day.

The NINJA models that have arrived in New Zealand have been certainly perfect in every respect- right from the specially designed box to the finest details- a credit to the developers., designers, and the manufacturers................the fitting of the tailplane to the fuselage is perfect and the wing saddle could not be better.- even the wing and tailplane have been suitably drilled and countersunk for bolt fixing to the fuselage.

What does one have to do to assemble the bulk of the model?

Well, align the wing and tailplane to the fuselage, then drill and screw thread (tap) the fuselage for the wing and tailplane mounting holes for the supplied countersunk bolts. The central join line makes things easy.

Screw fix the supplied ( and drilled) carbon undercarriage to the fuselage- again all screws supplied. Understandably the wheels are left to the choice of the purchaser. Mount the engine to the firewall (predrilled and installed blindnuts complete with supplied bolts) and thats the exterior basically completed.

Install the servo tray , then servos, horns and pushrods and you're almost there. Well what could be easier- a model purchased today and raced tomorrow.

The figure I get is $499us, plus $75us post, and at todays exchange rate, not allowing for GST and card transaction fee $732.59 NZ each, GST would add another 12.5%. I believe 2 can be posted for the price of 1.
What figures have you been hearing?

Yep! I have a Ninja arrived aweek ago. Cant wait to fly it.
Hopefully in a couple of weeks, just waiting for some new servos, & other parts.
The plane is awesome.

Yes it does fly as well as it looks. Jerry Small won the 428 class at Cincinnati yesterday. Jerry had to beat the fast time airplane in a first place flyoff and he did it handily by jumping out front and forcing the other guy to try and catch up. One cut later it was handed to Jerry. Ninja flys great.

He has one there that he painted the trim with a rattle can. He has a description of the assembly and paint effort. Looks good.
