You'll have to change that filter if you are in the dust at all, it'll let the finer stuff through and wreck your engine..

I have herd that engine is good. Looks nice all clean and shiny.

That engine in the hpi baja must be scary because in my 35 lb mcd it's nuts!

The cy 30.5 has more on the bottom but it won`t rev has much as the smaller cc 27.2..both are good ..just depend`s on what you want...I set this 27.2 up to run more on the top-end. Pipe, carb, clutch and some tall gear`s 19/55 w/diff upgrade`s...it HAUL`S ARSE....!

I'm thinking of getting that engine (Zen 27.2cc Race Ported) from DDM. You mentioned that it doesn't perform as well on bottom end. Is it that noticeable? Or is it only a minor reduction? If I buy the Zen 27.2cc Race Ported engine, I dont my Baja to "think" before taking off. I want as much top end as possible, but I would like some bottom end as well. So, with that being said, is it a good buy? Do I lose A LOT of bottom end, or a small amount ?

Thanks

Not much lost on the bottom ..I did notice it seemed to bog more in sand just did`nt have the grunt as the with the 30.5...I did change the clutch spring and added a Jet-pro V3 pipe and it helped alot..compared to the DDM pipe and changed the stock carb with a walbro marine 771 with a spacer. I have some tall gear`s as well 19/55 and with this set-up it`s all about speed for me....But it will still throw sand from a dead stop...don`t stand behind this thing....! lol

Both mill`s are great it`s all about the tune and your driving condition`s. I say go for it ! The guy`s at O`Neill`s are good for all tech and tune question`s. Good luck

Go with the Zenoah Reed ported 27.2cc ,the 30.5 race ported can't touch it

Default RE: Zen 27.2 From O`Neill`s

I forgot to mention that I have a JP V3 pipe with integrated silencer and the "Super Speed" gears (19/55) from DDM. So now I'm assuming I'll be set up for top-speed....I take my Baja off-road in dirt and what not, but no jumps or sand..mainly offroad dirt, grass, gravel, minor bumps from construction sites, etc...

Should I upgrade the clutch spring so it engages at a higher RPM? Or is the stock version sufficient for the modified motor and gear set ?

What are the advantages of changing the stock carb? I'm assuming performance is improved, but how so?

THanks for your input,

Ben

Reed Ported? I've always wondered what that is....can you please explain?

The Zenoah motor I'm planning on purchasing is: ESP Modified & ESP Fully Ported 27.2cc Zenoah Engine 4.25+ HP

Link: http://www.davesmotors.com/store/product1674.html

I hope I dont lose too much bottom end.

Thanks

I'm ordering the ESP modified Zenoah 27.2cc kit with stuffer crank...then I plan on getting Race Ported....

I'm guessing this is a more cost-effective option compared to buying the same thing for $425 ??

What do you think?

it's reed port, Instead of piston port. Like a 125 or 250CC etc. motor. If done properly they make more bottom end power and shouldn't lose anything on top.

Hey Guys,

Just FYI the Darksoul engines are being assembled by CC Racing Engines with custom porting and use billet cases. The price is steep but from all I've heard so far, as RC engines go, they're well worth the coin. We shall see when they hit the market if that is the case.

To the OP-

Unless you're running strictly on-road with that Baja you should consider changing out that air filter to a multi-stage oiled foam setup. That K&N filter is lucky to keep mosquitos out of your engine, nevermind dirt and sand. Something like the UNI or GBE foam filters from DDM will work on that velocity stack, or you could always go back to the stock HPI setup which works just as well. Has that Baja ever been outside of the house?? Looks real nice, almost too clean

LOL...Yes domg it`s had alot of run time mostly on the beach here in Daytona ! When I installed and / broke in the new 27.2 I got all the BUG`S out of it and now it`s tore down again and i`m just doing some small up-grade`s. Mostly cosmetic

I`ve been messing around with it for a few month`s re-building almost done waiting for part`s. It`s starting to become a show buggy...did`nt plan it that way just hap-n?????

A new chassis has been powder-coated for me by a friend....hopefully next week I`ll be running...as for the cone filter I have outerwear`s on when I do run.

Alright, I ordered a 29cc Race Ported kit for some bottom end grunt.

But for most running conditions, I just had O'neill overnight a:

Machined And Reed Ported Zenoah 27.2cc Big Bore Kit With Reed And Stuffed 2mm Stroker. I'll be running it with a JP pipe w/integrated silencer and tall gears (19/55).

Hayabusagreg: if the Zenoah kit I ordered is anything like yours, then I'll be satisfied .

What do you guys think?

Honestly, I have no experience with O'neil's. But the ordering process, questions, shipping, customer service, etc...was flawless! They are very friendly and very helpful.

I just hope the reed ported and the reed kit on the Zenoah 27.2 is worth the hype and $$.

What's a reasonable top speed with the reed ported/reed kit Zenoah 27.2, JP pipe, and tall gears (19/55)? Is 50mph far fetched? Or reasonable?

Just wondering wat are the parts you need to get for the Zen Race ported 27.2 engine to get it up and running in a 5B SS, i know some parts have been listed previously but want to know all the bits you would need. And wats is the difference between the race and reed port, is the reed port worth it. Thanks

Default RE: Zen 27.2 From O`Neill`s

if you got the stock engine from the baja you wont need to buy anything to toss a zenoah in, you can rub the parts off it, i believe the clutch housing is the only difference(shorter mount on zenoah than a cy)
race porting is enlarging and cleaning up the cylinder ports, reed porting would be cutting a window in the piston for the use of a reed valve system.
is reed porting worth it?...i don't think so there isn't enough performance gain with a piston port reed to make it worthwhile....case reed setups are much better but also much more costly
