Its a normal leak, mine has it too, Try readjusting ur low speed, mine was running too lean at idle and part throttle and i had to keep the hsn on the rich side to compensate.

QUESTION: does you firstorm have fuel/oil residue on the back of the motor after running/??? I am thinking there is a leak out of mine from the header.

If yours is like mine it could be a leak or maybe the exhaust comming from the pipe and blowing back there?

help plz.
I had alot of "black oil" round the back of mine, eventually found that a small gap had developed between the engine and header pipe. Check that your bolts havent loosened also check your gasket is fully intact.

the problem with the header bolts coming loose is an easy fix.
use longer bolts that pass thur the header and back them up with nuts.
the nuts will be very close to the brake pad. but it will not rub.

take a picture of yours, so the guru's here can all see what you have and then advise you accordingly. Do you know how to get the needles back to stock?

Another way to prime your engine is to just put your finger over the end of the exhaust pipe and pull the starter cord. you should be able to see the fuel go to your carb. the high speend needle is the screw right next to the where the fuel line goes into the carb.
hope this helps.

You will know, cause the engine will try to die at full throttle. Back it off 1/8 of a turn then you should be set. Same goes for the low speed needle. You can't look at people's pictures to do this, local weather patterns make a difference.

Thanks, but when i was out and driving with it today, on grass, it drank up a tank in less then 3 minutes and it kept dying.. But when i drove it home on asphalt it ran really good..

Sounds way too rich, you will have to turn your needle clockwise in small increments. Even rich it will seem to run decent on concrete because there is almost no resistance to it rolling. I would tune it on concrete, then go back to the grass and see how much better it will run.

hey, im so excited! my firestorm needed a bit of a service casue im not good with them yet, and it was fairly new and started to run a bit erraticly so i sent it in to a model shop.

I run it on grass and rough ground mainly, and do jumps and stuff, and i seems to be bottoming quite frequently. Would you recommend buying some new grippier tyres for the front wheels, and buying new tougher shocks?

Just put heavier weight shock oil in your shocks.

How good are you guys!!! Thanks for all the help for me and the others... you know what I was thinking you guru's could do to make it easier for us noobs to troubleshoot. Instead of going to a certain page in this thread or another thread on Nitro RC's... why don't you guys put a basic Firestorm troubleshooting post in here or somewhere. I like the other documentation that you guys have provided, but unlike myself (only because I do it for a living) people really don't like reading a lot and would much rather have short quick steps.

Is it possible to do something like this? I know after you would have completed something like this, you would feel great!!!

maybe something like this with screen shots... almost like an FAQ for Firestorm

your car is too lean when it

looks like this
sounds like this
turns off when doing this
idle sounds like this
temperature is ~

your car is too rich when it

looks like this
sounds like this
turns off when doing this
idle sounds like this
temperature is ~

If your idle is set to high look for

If your idle is set to low look for

... just a thought... and maybe this has already been done

hm.... would you recommend putting on some more grippy front tyres though for rougher terrain or are the lined ones it comes with good for grass and rough ground?

I wouldn't mind it tokenring, but to make it permanent you would have to get the ok from the mods to make it a sticky. Then everybody might want a sticky for something else. That's why they have the engine forums and other similar type forums.

The stock shocks are fine but you can add heavier wieght shock oil to them to stiffen them up. I just put 60 weight oil in miine and they are nice and stiff now. get yourself a set of proline moab tire you get about an extra 1/2 inch of ground clearance and they grip much better than stock. here is a link to them.

ok, thanks! surely though with the extra grip and traction, you would be substituting speed and stability?

secondly, i would be very appreciative if anyone knows wheree a pic of a firestorm with MOABS on is?
thanks!!!
