RE: XYZ ENGINES

I am thinking about ordering one of the 26cc engines. i can't decide between the crrc or the xyz engine. the crrc is $200 delivered and i think they have a little nicer looking muffler. i don't know i'm still looking for some more feedback on these engines. i am going to put it in a 120 size mitsubishi zero. it has a 71" wingspan and i would like it to haul butt across the field pretty good. what do you guy's think?

By RCU rules, we can not get into who is better and who is not.
Do your research , ie:weight, rpm, cost but mostly support and service!
We are sure you will make the right decision.
By the way, that should be a great plane for a warbird event.!

A 16x10 prop should work very well on this size of engine. I have a 26 gasser using a APC 17x8 prop and it spins it at 7500RPM and has more than enough power for my CG Stinson. Here is a small video.[:-]

I am getting close to being being done with my Skyshark P-40N. I will be posting more RPM #'s once I am finished with the build. I have some Bambula 20x10 & MA 20x10 props I plan to use on the XYZ-50. A freind of mine fly's his Skyshark P-40N with a Brison 3.2(52cc) with a Zinger 20x10 props. He is getting 7000RPM and the plane fly's great. I hope to get close to 7000 RPM with a Bambula 20x10. I was getting 7200RPM with a APC 20x8 prop so I think it will be close. I'll let you know how it goes,

RE: XYZ ENGINES
Well I finally got around to testing the XYX-50 again. I have a MAS 20x10 and a Bambula 20x10. I will never waste my money again on a MAS prop. That prop was so far out of balance I thought I was never going to balance it. Once I got the MAS 20x10 prop balanced I only got 6200RPM with the XYZ-50. I changed the prop out to the Bambula 20x10 prop that was balanced right out of the package. The XYZ-50 loved the Bambula prop and the engine jump to 6950RPM. Plenty of power for my Skyshark P-40.

Steve,
I would call and talk to Ron about your choice of prop size. I was using a APC 20x8 prop and Ron told me that prop was to small to use. It would allow the engine to over rev during breakin and could have caused a problem. If you look at recomemded prop size's the 20x10 is the smallest size to start with. Just my 2 cents here.

RE: XYZ ENGINES
Well, I have about 10 flights on my big Cap 232 with the XYZ-50 and I am still VERY happy with the engine. I am now at 6800rpm stationary with TONS of vertical power. I am running 120 octane aviation fuel at 32-1 mix. The engine starts great, runs smooth and with the JFX 21x8 prop I have ample power. I promise that I will have video soon.

RE: XYZ ENGINES
Here are the numbers we found from last weekend.
Both engines were new out of the box so we let both run
for about 20min at 2500rpm so that they had
at least some break-in. Also, attached are two pics
of the go cart we used to test.[sm=50_50.gif]
XYZ-50cc:
Xoar 20x10 15.5lbs @ 6300rpm
TBM 22x8 - 16.5lbs @ 6000rpm
JXF 21x8 18.5lbs @ 6500rpm
XYZ-26cc:
APC 16x8 8.5lbs @ 7900rpm
Xoar 17x8 - 10lbs @ 7000rpm
JXF 18x8 10lbs @ 6700rpm
For my own interest, I am giving these engines to a couple friends at our club
to see what the numbers look like after they have some flight time on them.
We used a fish scale that was not short of rust and in need of oil.
I wish we had a better one because we will need to use that same scale
again when we do this after some flight time.

RE: XYZ ENGINES
Here is a short vid of a NitroModels Zlin-50 and the XYZ-26 engine.
The engine has about two hours of runtime and is still on LawnBoy
32:1.
Also, notice proper mounting of engine in the pics.

RE: XYZ ENGINES
Today, I received the replacement CDI along with its hall sensor from the XYZ engine manufacturer for my XYZ 26cc. I will set up the engine on the test bench and have a test run as soon as possible.
Before I proceed further, I need to know if I can just install the hall sensor at the central position as provided (in between the stock holding down screws).
From my previous experience on gassers, the designed hall sensor location for this 26cc engine seems to be too much ahead of TDC. Can Mr. Ron please comment? Thanks.

We have over 40 engines in the field here in the US and have not run into a timing issue yet that we are aware of.

John
This XYZ engine should make a good engine for the Top Flite P-51. I have one mounted to a Skyshark P-40 and I am getting 22lbs of thrust on a 22 lb plane. Your Top Flite P-51 should be well under 20lbs with this engine and the TF P-51 has more wing area than my Shkshark P-40. Here is a pic of the P-40. I hope to maiden the P-40 soon. I have been having some trouble getting the retracts to work in ther manior I want.

RE: XYZ ENGINES
Bench Test my XYZ 26cc that has been replaced with bent crankshaft and faulty CDI/hall sensor. The vibration seemed quite bad, not due to unbalance prop, of course.

I assume you purchased your engine from HC.com and they sent you
the new shaft and sensor ?
From my understanding, there were only a few that went out that way.
I hope all is well now and you will be able to pop that engine into
an airplane for some enjoyment.

I saw that mustang at our local warbird event a month ago.
I think the 50 would match up well to it, but do you think you
will have the room for it?
The width from the carb bolts to the muffler bolts is 7".
The height from the top cylinder to the bottom of the crankcase is 6-1/2".
The distance from the back mount to the back of the prop hub is 5-7/8".
I hope this helps !
