Oh don't get me wrong, i love the scheme, especially since i removed the stickers and the checkers from the tail.

BUT..

you said yourself 9 people have the same plane at the field; wouldn't it be nice if they didn't all have to look exactly the same?

Sorry, I dont see where you guys are coming from. I think the scheme is awesome. The removal of advertising, I understand. I'm not in a club either, I'm not an old man who likes to put his planes together, set and gab, take them apart and leave without even flying. Its a city owned field. Most who fly there dont belong to a club, and it works very well. The Dayton wingmasters do fly there though. DX7 all the way! The 9 planes isnt really a problem, usually only 2 at most at a time there.
agreed with aflipz. love the color scheme, but two people at my "mini field" are already talking about buying it. same happened when I showed up with the Mini Ultra Stick. a little variety is nice

That I do see. Never really thought about it though. Usually only a couple there at a time.

...what is the diffrence in a 12x6e from a 12x6 without the E

The one without the E is a slowflyer prop (that's the one you have on there right now) and has a max rpm around 5500 while the E's are Thin Electric type, can spin much faster and is generally more efficient on high powered setups.

Which motor are you using and what do you want the plane to do best?

In that case, since you'll be flying level most of the time i think an E prop would be more suitable as it will get you up to speed with less effort.

It's not a necessity, you can go ahead and maiden that setup, just try to avoid keeping it wide open throttle needlessly, look for this phenomenon; accelerate slowly increasing throttle, notice how past about 60% throttle it won't really be going any faster; this is where the E prop would be advantageous.

Icejay, about the battery placement; this is really not a test you can cheat on your neighbor; every plane is different; some balsa is denser some is lighter; if you were to take 10 of these arf's and dry assemble them none of them would balance exactly on the same location. Then, you have the components used, which extensions, how much adhesives are used and where... We can end up with noticable differences in pack placements in order to achieve cg even if all the same components are used. So check it!

With the 10 and components required, you would be weighing this plane down too much. It would lose its fun factor, in my opinion.

I've got the E-Flite 10 in mine as well as a 2200mAh 25C (installed across the fuselage immediately under the forward section of the canopy and deck and velcro used to attach it to the spar tube). It goes like a cut snake - vertical performance from takeoff until I back off - checked by on-board altimeter up to 1200 feet!

With this power and 40Amp speedy, I don't keep it full open for more than necessary as I don't want to cook the speedy or battery etc. Motor is holding up just fine and the extra weight of larger battery and motor seem to be unnoticed. Balance was perfect from start with no need to add any further weight.

Couldn't be happier with this little ripper, but gear is the weak point if there is one. My field is quite rough and I've taken the mains out three times now, and the tailwheel/rudder once.

Cheers,
Greg

The extra weight may be un-noticed if you havent flown it at the low end of the recommended weight range. I have, experimenting with different batteries. It is unbelievable how much difference even just a 1/4 oz or less makes. Flies almost like 2 different airplanes.

Hey, I am using a 1250mAh GP battery ( I know is too small for this plane, but I couln´t get the money for a bigger one), but on the pics you could see my old setup and my new one. The one I used for maiden is the one with the battery parallel to the fuselage. After some flights realized was a little nose heavy so I move it back right into the wingtube holder, just parallel to the wings. Landings where softer, but still ripped the gear lol.

Towers, I'm not as experienced as others here, but I do have a little bit of experience with Eflite planes. (this is my second Eflite plane) They seem VERY tempermental regarding fore and aft balance. I'd guess that's an understatement if anything.

I'd check the balance of your plane using the 3" to 3 1/8" back from leading edge Eflite suggests. They only give you a 1/8" range, so you can see how important the factory thinks CG is. I mark my wing with a Sharpie, use a little balance gizmo I made and make sure it's right on the button before I fly.

Hi woodbender, before adding reinforcements to the gear, it was quite nose heavy, I had to roll the batt as far back into the wingtube as I could, but with the reinforcement I had to use paralel-to-wing setup in order to achieve level flight easily. I understand you have a method to achive CG with a "gizmo", if you could explain more about how it works, because I am not too sure about what this thing is, I would appreciate it. Right now I can´t check on the plane because last flight ripped the gear, as soon as it is fixed again I would check balance again.
Thanx

Towers, my 'gizmo' is nothing more than a cobbled-up version of this [link=http://www.hobbywarehouse.com/Products/Great-Planes-Parts/GPMR2400-Great-Planes-C-G-Machine]Store- Bought CG Balancing Gizmo[/link]. Since I was too cheap to buy one, I made one from two sharpened dowels and a chunk of 2/4.

The idea is to make the plane balance on the factory-suggested marks.

I very carefully mark the wing with a Sharpie. Then I set the plane on the gizmo so the gizmo's points are right on the marks. Then I see if the plane goes nose down, tail down or sits there balanced. I move the battery up and back accordingly 'till I get the balance just right. Getting this CG right on makes an amazing difference in how the plane flies.

The landing gear is certainly the weak link in the Eflite planes. I make sure I recheck the CG after each repair or modification.

Now I know!, thanx for the info, I had made one, kind of similar but it seems its not so accurate, thnax again I would repair and rebalance this little bird in no time.

This is a video of my plane, at the end I stripped the gear with what I suposed was a fair landing:

Alternatively, you can eyeball it by holding it with your fingertips at those marks, then fly it; if it feels too forward or backward land, quickly adjust and fly again.

When i fly at local parks or fields i bring the tx, the plane and a cargo pant pocket full of battery packs. Checking with a balancer every time i change the pack isn't really practical especially with the wind blowing it can be completely impossible. When you get to know your plane you have a good idea where to place the different packs to be on or close to your preferred cg.

Hey nice video towers, yeah that by no means looked like a landing that should have hurt any park flyer???

Observing as critically as i can, it looks to me like the plane could have had a slightly forward CG

Do you always set the cg exactly the same way? You definitely show enough confidence and recovery capability to pull it back as much as you want without it getting you in any kind of trouble. (by anybody's standards, i am always for the ''right'' cg which is not nose heavy IMO)

I try to use a 2100mah battery in the majority of my planes (yes even the larger ones) ...each one tends to be a bit different (only 2 manufacturers), but I have a bunch of multicolored Sharpies that I mark each battery with. As an example, My 260 has a GREEN mark on the cowl and each battery also has a corresponding GREEN mark showing where the CG would be. In that way, when I get to the field I don;t have to bother. Works out very well.

Right now, each battery has about 7 colored marks on it. Just as an extra precaution, I also "color" the battery tray with the same color, and also the ESC connector to the battery too.
