Can I safely use a spinner nut on a 4 stroke with a jam nut
I have an OS 4 stroke .91 Surpass engine. I am installing it in a scale model T28 where a spinner would look out of place and I wanted to use a spinner nut. The prop mounts with a double nut arrangement where the second nut is a jam nut. Can this arrangement be used with a spinner nut?
thanks

I've never had any problems. Another solution is to replace the jamb nuts with a nylon lock nut. Whatever you do, do NOT put a lock washer between the nuts. The only thing that's going to do is gald the shaft.

What Prop are you going to use. If it is less than 6" pitch, you are going to have trouble by not having a spinner backplate behind the prop. Even a 6" pitch may be to thin. The crank threads could use three more turns at least to run a bare prop.
The backfire issue should be taken serious. I've had my Mag 91 backfire and spin the nut and lock nut about 1 1/2 turn out, They were tightenough together that It took two wrenches to break them loose. I'm not sure what would happen with the spinner nut. First, it has about 10 times the mass of a lock nut. Second, it doesn't have the taper and split collet arangement to really lock the nut and spinner nut together. My guess is that I wouldn't want to be standing near the front of that engine when it backfired.
Something like this would work a lot better. Some may be a bit big, but it would look more "scale" than event the spinner nut.

Any of these would be better than a big spinner nut.

Blue locktite and engines don't work well together, unless you don't mind a bunch of visegrip marks on you engine. How to you take a nut off when you have used thread lock to set it. There is nothing but the thrust washer to prevent the crank from turning it once the prop is broken loose. Out come the visegrips.

Yeah, what CustomPC said.....
I use Higley spinner nut and lock nut on a Saito 82, and I haven't had any problems. I DO tighten them pretty tight with a 10" Crescent wrench.

This information is GREAT!! thanks for all the suggestions. I plan to try the Harry Higley prop and lock nut, and the Truturn spinner hub, then decide with one I like best.
