A couple of other things:

Disregard the wood engine mount beams you see in the photos. The kit comes supplied with a glass-filled engine mount that bolts to the plywood firewall. I ended using a glass-filled mount (the wood beams didn't work, but that's another story). The other thing (which doesn't really matter) is the engine I used in the photo is an old, worn out Super Tigre G.61. It has the same mounting dimensions as the Super Tigre G.75 and G.90, so I used it to shape the nose. I installed the new G.75 after the airplane was complete.

Good luck!

thanks alot for all the help.
for now i will wait for my tower kaos, which i am planing to mount a 55 ax. probably it is the best way to get started in classic pattern.
later on i will move on to the larger kaos.
thanks again.

Wowzer, an OS 55AX in the Tower 40 Kaos! Man, that thing should really go. Isn't that about 1.75 HP? Let me put that into perspective. I flew a 60-size Super Kaos (slightly smaller than the Killer Chaos) first with an old Super Tigre Bluehead G.60 (1.1 HP stock) and later with a Super Tigre G.61 (1.75 HP stock). I added a tuned muffler and Perry carburetor, so my guess is that the G.61 was making about 2.0 HP. The Kaos was pretty fast.

I wonder how the Killer Chaos would do with a G.90 in it. Probably go into orbit

I couldn't remember what the Banshee was, so I looked it up. I found a pattern airplane designed by Jim Martin called the Banshee. He designed it back in the 1970's. Is that the one? It is described as a fast pattern airplane, perhaps one of the fastest. Fiberglas fuselage and foam-core wings. Sound like a real classic!

Best of luck with your new airplane. And please let us know when you get it flying. Post pictures!

Youll love it over the years i have had 3 60 size an super kaos with a st46,,an a scratch built 90" with a st2500 with tuned pipe. they each were great flyers. at really high speed they have a strange tail wabble. only really fast diving pass to get it to do it (nothing to worry about) ill try to post my last one, Jim & I built a pair of these back in the late 70s, We lost Jim a few years ago, i got all his stuff in my shop.[img][/img]

Man the wing design has an uncanny resemblance to some of the big name planes taking to air in current days.

Yes you'll find that airfoil in many airplanes. Off the building board its a really great flyer. Its very forgiving in respect to roll rate. I will not do anything dumb on you. I always wanted to build one with retracts, but i enjoyed to landing it nose high on mains. On a good smooth runway i could keep the nose off an do a touch an go..really cool. Also a waist high inverted flyby was neat for last flight in dead air at sunset..You'll enjoy it.

I'm thinking of ordering a Tower Kaos for a practice bird.

Is anyone flying that airplane with a .46AX and if so what prop are you using. How is the performance and vertical with your setup?

Would it be better to go with a .55AX from the get go? Any comments and insights appreciated

I am still flying a 24 year old Super Kaos 40 and just replaced the OS 46 FX with an OS 46 AX and it flies great. I have never flown the Tower Kaos so I can't compare directly. My Kaos 40 orginally had a K&B 40 on it, which is the engine shown on the planes. I think the flyers from the 70s and 80s would agree that a 55 AX would be like putting a Webra 61 on the Kaos 40 25 years ago. Fo the way I fly, the 46 AX is plenty power. I am using an 11 x 7 Master Airscrew on my 46 AX but it could probably handle an 11 x 8.

There are several Kaos 40's with OS .46's flying at my field. They fly very nicely but I wouldn't call them particularly fast. I'm flying a Sig Somethin' Extra with an OS .55AX. That really moves the bacon for me. But comparing the OS .55 to a Webra Speed .61 is no comparison. The Webra will blow the .55 away. I have a Webra .61 going into a new pattern ship that I wouldn't even consider the OS .55 for.

The choice is yours, depending on what you want out of your Kaos. It'll be a solid performer with a .46. It'll be significantly faster and flashier with a .55. I'd put in the .55..... but that's just me.

my kaos is nearly re built.I had the wing and decided to recover .I bought the plans from rcm last year and since it was raining today just started building a new fuse.it should be done next week.I have a new magnum 61 and hope it will fly like the old days when I had an enya 2 60 in it.I love the older vintage pattern ships.a fellow flyer at our club recently started flying his intruder and I forgot how nice these planes are.

hello everyone, I have a tower kaos, o.s.55, apc 11x6. I flew sunday and someone had radar gun, 3 passes, 105, 106, 114 mph, basicly level flight, 10 mph crossing tailwind, like 45 deg to runway, don't know how much the wind helped but I sure love my Kaos

Try it with an 11-7. My OS .55AX turns the Zinger 11-7 Pro really well. I'd like to know what the speed difference is for you.

when I try the 11x7 it seems to bog the motor, the 11x6 turns 13,300 on tac, I it set to 12,900 when flying. The 10x7 goes to 14,400 which should be good. when I tryed the 10x7 we had a wind of 25 or so, when I turn down wind the engine would unload and i didn't like the way it felt. The lhs didn't have a 10x8, this is probley faster than 11x6 while still providing great pull. Thie Kaos is my favorite plane of the 3 I'm flying. The prop used must feel good doing mostly patern manuvers, unlimted vert while rolling ect. I generaly fly it 10 min. mostly all manuvers with several passes at 100 plus mph. when I first put Kaos together it had 46ax, I thought plenty of power, flew and balenced great. I stoll the 46 and the digital servos for Fun Star 3d plane(good combo), then I put 55 in Kaos with Hi Tec 475 servos and wow. Next will be tuned muffler.

If speed is your main concern, you should think about flying a plane intended to go FAST. The 11-7 on my OS .55AX gives me a little more speed than most people have and preserves the aerobatic flight qualities of a great sport type airplane. But hey... that's just me... I'm probably a lot older than you are... and maybe my reflexes are past prime.

What size fuel tank can you get in the Tower Kaos 40 and what is the flight time with an OS 55 AX? I have a 10 oz tank in my old Bridi Super Kaos 40 and my OS 46 AX goes through that pretty fast at full throttle.
