Default Grumania F-100 building thread.

Hi,
I started work today on Grumania F-100
Rivet, panel lines & multilayered detail is too much superb. I have never seen this type of detailed kit before.
First time i am making this type of detailed kit. This kit is going to take quite bit long time to build.
Suggestions is required to complete this stuff ready to fly.
I have done cut outs today.
Here are some pics.

Manish,

Hi Guys,

This is my plane being built by manish. The cut outs are apparently scale cut outs. We are trying to go as far as we can in terms of "scale". I will attempt to do the hot section tail cone as well. The finished plane will be in the "pretty penny" scheme. I had Ralf Schnieder send me the colours details for the hot section. I believe there are about 11 colours sprayed on and then carefully sanded with a 4000 grit paper to get that awesome hot detailing. I will also order the scale tandem wheel assembly. Bob, did you install a pilot in your hun? Im also going with the green 44 Gold. I can barely wait to get her to stand up on its feet now. Awaiting the retracts from Ilja.

Cheers!

Maybe thats something for another threat but like Anuraf, many other customers asked me how to do the hot section.I`ll add some pictures we made at the last JetPower, where Ralf and me made a workshop on how to paint a hot section. It is easier than expected, once you have the right colours and knowledge wich colours to spray in the correct order.

Ilja, Do you have a list for the exact colour sequence? and their shades? Is there a doc that talks about this topic in detail. I have the jetpower article, but I dont think it lists the color shades.

Hi ,
see picture 1, this is the sequence starting from left to right. This is the sequence , how metal changes its colour with increasing temperatures.

Hi,
Bob(Meesh) these cutouts is for scale looks & are important for cooling effect also.
Thanks Ilja for how to paint hot section & Ralle for hot section colour sequence.
Today i have done straight nose gear & main wheel well cut out used for wheel door in fuselage. It is recomended to leave these wheel doors parmenently open. But we decide to make it functional. Anyone tried it(wheel door) to be functional.
Strenthening plates inside fuselage is glued & hold it in place by foam to aviod deforming of fuselage sides.
Done joiner bearers & brass tubes glued to fuselage leaving joiner tube in place till epoxy sets.
Some shots of todays work.

Manish,

I would like to make a suggestion regarding The metal tab the holds the wing to the fuse.
I suggest you drill a 3mm hole through the lower wing skin, then through the metal tab and in to the wood plate that it is glued to. Then glue a 3 mm wood dowel pin into the hole. This will take the stress load during a heavy landing that will keep the tab from pulling away from the wood plate.

Hey Chatty,
I am waiting for the painting stage. I will however try to simulate the hot section effect on a sample surface before trying it out on the real tail cone.

Cheers

Thanks bob for making this good sugesstion about metal tab which holds the wing to the fuse.
When i glued that metal tab to wing i thinked twice is it enough to glue only or i have to do something more to secure it properly.
Your suggestion is valuable here, bob.
Manish.

What i have done with alu. plate which holds wing to fuse is- drill 2-3 holes to the glued part & then glued it to wing. This not only secured metal tab/ alu plate well but doesn't disturb scale looks.
The main thing here is i want to make this model scale as much as possible. Facing few problems is
1) The old kit comes with hinged rudder but this new kit has seperate rudder & we have to hinge it. The problem is if i hinge rudder using normal pin pivot hinges it is hinged centrally to the leading edge of rudder. Then how to accomodate horn for pushrod coming from servo. Or i have to make one metal wire Z shaped which fixed in rudder & comes near servo for operating rudder. Will it work? But rudder horn comes with kit does it mean to make servo pushrod from outside which disturb scale looks.
2) When i got kit it doesnt have aileron horns, decide to make custom ones. So anyone can please suggest me shape & size of aileron horn, it will be helpful for me.

Manish,
my kits are always complete with all hinges and the picture CD clearly shows the hinging and the linkage. There is no nead for making your own parts or to change the design. Check the box again.

Ilja,

Unfortunately, we misplaced this small bag. I guess thats how the retracts also got lost too. Its a pity that we lost it. I guess we will find out what else is missing as we go ahead.

Cheers

Hi There,
I am asking that the rudder in the kit is not already hinged & in this new kit we have to hinge it, as normally we hinge it using normal pin hinges. The cd showing photos is not correct it is showing that rudder is hinged when kit is sold, but this kit has seperate rudder comes in the kit. (1st Photo shown in cd , 2nd photo of rudder comes with kit)
May possible that the misplaced bag which has hinges & other necessary parts to complete this rudder operational. But i didn't find any photo in cd with more parts which we didn't have in hand to complete this rudder section as per photos in cd.
Or maybe you want to make this rudder horn like this (As shown in 3rd photo ) in this new kit.
Or you may have provided Z bend metal wire which used to operate rudder (in this type we didn't have to use horn, like BVM use on his F-100.) only has to fix wire in rudder which comes down to servo for linkage. But i didn't got any photos in cd regarding this kind of linkage.
I am asking these questions because we didn't know which parts are misplaced. Rudder showing photo in cd has different linkage sys. which is impossible to do in this new kit, i.e. with the seperate rudder unless & until we have to fix horn minimun 10mm outside the rudder.

Hello Manish,
the 1st foto you mention is found in the section : OLD STYLE rudder wich not standard on later kits. But the photo shows the linkage wich did not change. Later kits have the scale type rudder and all needed pictures are to be found in the section: Rudder, NEW SCALE TYPE.
This chapter shows the needed parts wich are packed in bag No. 2, mentioned in the corresponding bag parts list under " new style rudder".
The pictures , mentioned above show how parts have to be assembled and glued together. Also shown is hinge line, principle, measures for cuts,....... I can`t find any misunderstandings.
Finally, some little basic knowlege is still required to build such a kit. A little slot in the fin is required for the new linkage wich is outside of the fin.

What kind of paints are those for the hot section? enamels, acrylics, inks, metallics?
