RE: Why is my STEEL SPUR GEAR NOT STEEL
Have you tried to call RedCat and see if they will replace this copper/bronze coated spur with a real spur? Chances are they can get a hold of HSP and order a true steel spur to fit your RC.
If that is not an option for you, then the only other choice is to search on-line and see if you can find an aftermarket spur to fit your RC. I personally would not know where to begin since I do not know what aftermarket companies support HSP and Redcats. BUT, you might try to search Robinson Racing, they make true steel spurs for all sorts of RCs. Also, dont limit yourself to looking for parts that will fit Redcat, I am pretty sure if you find an aftermarket spur that will fit a Himoto, Exceed, or even Acme, it will fit your RC also. If it will fit an HSP, it will fit all of these brands (so long as you know what the HSP name of your RC is).

I agree. That other thread with the guy claiming improper mesh causes brittleness in gears is a big load of crap. It might cause them to wear out faster, but not just snap off teeth.
Anyway you look at it, it's a very poorly made product. Whether it's a brittle steel, or cover up job on a bronze gear. I'd try to get your money back if I were you, because it clearly wasn't made right from the start and that's not your fault.
