I dunno, I have a buddy that just put a YS 140 Sport on the front of his (yes the 46 size). I think he's crazy, but we'll see how it flies....or explodes...in the next week or so.

I think the Saito 100 sounds like alot of people like it..
Here's another question.. How does the 46 do on a 46 fx? See, I've been out of nitro for about 1.5 years and am wanting to get back into it.. Been flying electrics.. However, I want to make sure I want to be flying nitro too and this is not just a "fling" so I'm wondering, what kinda sport flyer would the UCD be on a 46 fx, as I have that an a 61 laying aroudn..

I have a Saito .91 in mine swinging an APC 15x4W prop. Excellent combination. Hover at a couple of clicks over 1/2 throttle.

I installed a YS 63 (new version) . The 13x6 prop seems lacking. Anyone with experience with this set-up?
What prop? I prefer APC's.

Nothing like dredging up a dinosaur thread, eh?
Anyone ever put a 91 Surpass in this airplane? I bought a NIB kit on impulse the other day (the price was right), but the only thing I have to put in it is either a 52 Surpass or a 91 Surpass. The 52 Surpass will fly it, but would be pretty lame. OTOH, stuffing that 91 in there is going to require quite a bit of work to do right. I don't mind it (part of the fun, to me), but I wonder about balance and longevity.
I see where some guys have put Saito 91s and 100s in these, but those engines are somewhat lighter than a 91 Surpass. I figure that, at the least, I'll have to cut a hole in the rear of the fuselage to mount the battery.
My other concern involves whether or not the airframe can stand up to the pounding that big motor will give it. The manual says "RESIST the temptation to over-power this model", or words to that effect.
Any thoughts/comments appreciated; and please, no suggestions on alternate engines. I'm into gas now and have no intention of buying any more glow engines.

I flew my UCD 46 with a YS 63 and a OS91 FS. I liked the 91 a little better. Both have enough power. My UCD 46 weighs about 6 lbs. I don't call that a light-weight. It weighs about the same as a Mojo 60 and has the same wing area. The Mojo 60 flies better for me, especially the Moass version.

I've been flying a 91 Surpass in my U-Can-Do for almost three years - with a 14X4 prop it is absolutely the most fun-to fly airplane I have ever owned. Performance is anything you could ever desire, just watch your downlines with high throttle settings, the airframe might not withstand the stress.

That's good to know. I have an APC 14x4W that I intend to use. I also have a 15x4W, but I had a UCD 60 with a YS 91, and that huge boat paddle even slowed down the strong YS on spool-up. I don't think the 91 Surpass could handle it.

Also been flying my UCD.46 with an OS.91 4cycle/ Hitec digital servos, and beefed up control rods/horns. I have a 15x4 APC and don't find speed to be much of a problem, but I don't maintain level full throttle for very long.

I've used the Saito 82 in three of them and had great results with it. It's a perfect combo for this plane. ( use an APC 14x4W ) I would think that the YS 63 would do well in it too.

Gary and Sky Dart,
Are you guys using the kit tank? 8 ounces is a bit light for a 91 four-banger, but since most of the flight will be at half throttle or less, 8 ounces might be enough?
I have a Hayes 11 ouncer that will fit with some minor surgery on the front fuse former; but I'd rather not remove any wood there.

I have used the tank that comes with it and the Saito 82 but the flight times are a little shorter than I wanted so on one of my planes I put a larger tank in it. I think it was mostly longer so I didn't have to modify it too much.

RE: UCANDO 3D 46.. What Four Stroke for it?
I'm running mine with a OS91 Surpass II in there and a 14x4W. It handles the weight no problem at all. I did have a magnum .70 in it and it could fly but it couldn't *do* anything
Fuel usage is extremely good I find I can easily get 12 minutes on 2/3 of the supplied tank.
It balances just fine with a 6 volt batt in the fuze, just behind the tank.

I flew mine with a Magnum .91 and it was a great combination. Not sure what the general thinking on Magnum is, but mine is a honey. Starts easy, idles so slow you can count the pops and has plenty of beef for this plane.
A really fun combo and very affordable as well.
