Default RE: Official E-FIRESTORM thread

Hey guys my buddy Frank and I just picked up some of these trucks and they're pretty bad ass so far. We took them out the first day and thrashed the hell out of them. This thing is super durable we had multiple jump at 5 or more feet, head on with poles and curbs at full speed, cartwheels, front flips, tumbles, upside down in mud puddles. You name it we put the trucks through it!! The only thing that "broke" was a turnbuckle popped off and both speed controls and switches came loose. He's running a 5000 mah Venom pack and I'm running a 4600 mah Trinity pack. We got 30 min plus on the packs and it felt like they would never die.

I've tried to read through every page on the forum but there are just too many posts so here are a few questions. I have to reprogram the speed control almost every time I turn the truck on, I'm using an Airtronics MX-3 instead of stock is that causing the problem? Can we run 7 or 8 cell batteries in the truck? Any other tips would be appreciated.

Heres a pic of our trucks after about 15 min of bashing.

Hi Anyone got MOABs on your truck.
Did you change gearing for that. If so, what pinion/spur combination.?
Stock tyre's perimeter is 32 Cm.
Moab is 40 cm.

19 X 32 / 40 = 15. So, a 15T pinion.
Am i calculating right?

HPI says you can't run a 3s LiPo so do you think an 8-cell will perform better then a 2s LiPo?

If you decide to run a 7 or 8 cell pack, you may want to consider downgearing a little on the pinion. A 16T pinion would be advised when running at higher voltages than 7.2.

for the hpi flux esc, you don't have to setup every time you turn it on. just let it beep, pause, beep again. Then its ready to run. the first beep is the setup stage so give it a few seconds. turn it on, wait about 5 seconds then throttle it.

8 months of brushless bashing and the only damage was a couple broken a-arms, my fault. My favorite rc so far and I've owned quite a few.

Don't these things break?!? We've used our trucks for about an hour now and really bashed the hell out of them. Just flip them back over and they're off and running!! Here are a couple of videos we took with a phone (poor quality), the first one looks like it's broke but the On/Off switch just got moved. I don't know if the trucks trying to tell me something but that switch gets thrown a LOT probably 5 times a session; can I just delete the switch?

You can mount the switch anywhere you want! The best thing is, if you mount the switch to where it's easily accesable, make sure that the "on" position is back and "off" is towards the front of the car, that way if you ever do hit something that hits the switch while moving forward, it will stay on.

And no, they do not break (of course that's not 100% true, lol). I chewed my spur, that's it, and that was my fault, darn 6 foot jumps at the cement skate park, but oh so fun! I've beat this thing harder than any of my other vehicles and it's taken every beating with aplomb and asked for more every time.

HPI Roxxorz meh soxxorz!

Been running the SW 4600 for a week or so now. Way faster than stock but I am amazed at how strong this truck is overall. I have done a little body damage now but it is not broken by any means. This truck is beyond strong. I really do try to break it. Short of running directly into walls or curbs. I have taken it over huge jumps landed all sorts of different ways and nothing breaks. I am truely amazed at the quality of this truck.

looks live everyone shares the love lol. A great performing truck that can take a beating, finally it has been made! I modded a pede for years but my highly modded pede doesn't stand up to the stock firestorm setup. Add brushless and it's great.

I think I already posted these a long time ago but here's my vids and pics.

Sooooo I totally jinnxed us. After some good romping around the park Frank's speedo came loose and must have hit something during a tumble, the bottom popped off and some of the wires ripped out. Not before my completely died I was WOT on flat land and it just cut off. There is no power going to the ESC so I think that switch I mentioned earlier just died. Anyway the call’s been made to HPI and we’re mailing in the ESC’s hopefully they’ll send us new ones.

Nice pics and some nice vids to boot.
I think I got an e-firestorm because those vids impressed me, I remember them pretty good.
I chose a brushless system similar to yours I have the 9.5 4700kv LRP Ai Pro system that is waterproof.
I've got the esc wet on accident before and didnt hurt it at all, still works great.

I love how these things just take-off and become a dot!

they way you guys are bashing around maybe it is a good time to order some bumbers while your trucks are down

http://www.t-bone-racing.com/hpi.html

...particularly the rear bumper, it could save you from burning up a spur gear or even worse, busting up an expensive brushless motor on some of those tail-end crash landings

I know this sounds kinda silly, but I am tired of taking apart my shocks and cleaning them every time I run. Where can I get shock covers? I think there is a place called Outerwears, I saw them in a magazine. Are Duratrax batts any good? I saw them on Tower while looking for a 7 cell. . .
