Default Hirobo HGE-20EH Gas Engine

Hi,
I wonder if anyone knows where I can get a copy of the Hirobo HGE-20EH engine manual. This is the earlier 20cc version of the gas engine. Mine has gone missing sometime within the last twenty years.
Hope some one can help.

Did you ever get a copy of this manual? I have a complete copy including all the exploded diagrams etc. I will be happy to send you a copy of them.

Hi Rudy

The complete manual + exploded diagrams for the Hirobo HGE-20EH engine. This is the original gas engine supplied with the Hirobo Huey heli from the early 80's. I believe this was later replaced by a larger 25cc engine due to it being under powered. It has the light green fan cover.

If it sounds like the correct one let me know. Maybe with it you can figure out why my engine won't run properly

Hi Uncle Peter66

Yes that's one, I would love a copy of this and yes it has the light green fan cover. I have the orginal Hirobo Bell 47 G2 Manual and Blue Prints and this would complete the set.

What sort of engine are you having problems with? I'm certainly no expert but will help you all i can.

Thanks and Regards
Rudy

Hi Rudy

I will need your address.

Email it to me at [email protected]

I am having problems with this very engine in the Huey. If the weather stays dry for more than 5 minutes at the weekend I am planning on clamping the Huey to a table outside, getting underneath the heli and trying to set it up whilst it's running under load. I am going to try reducing the oil content of the fuel from 20/1 to about 25/1 following someones suggestion. I also think the adaptor from the silencer to the down pipe is very restrictive so may look at getting this opened out. Does this engine in your 47G have sufficient power to get the heli into the air and maintain a hover?

Hi Pete,

I have had this Heli for over twenty years now and it has probably only seen about 3 hours hover time. until i put it away. Yes the engine had plenty of power to hover tho I did not try to fly it but have seen one other identical heli fly and hover with no problems.

As far as the fuel to oil ratio goes I can't see that it will make the difference between hovering or not, but I could be wrong and think it is worth adjusting it to make sure. I did run mine on 25 to one with no problems.

What's happening when you try to hover? Two stroke engines are fairly simple and it may be just a case of setting your carb right tho with this engine it does have timing advance which I have not had a need to play with. It's the cable that goes down into your engine near your throttle, is it hooked up. Your running adaptors in your exhaust system....is this stock or an after market addition? I set mine up as best I could to all stock settings and it was reliable but if you have deviated away from this in your exhaust it could be worth investigating further. Stick with it and I'd be curious to know how it goes. It's probably just one simple thing that is causing you the problem.
Regards
Rudy

Hi Peter and Rudiix,

how are your Hirobo helis? the 'latest' video i have for my hirobo Bell 47G is here.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PWlZU...hannel&list=UL

this was with the symmetrical blades, which hover ok in UK but when I brought heli to Asia with warmer and more humid weather, it did not lift at all. I have then changed to semi-symmetrical vario blades and it make a BIG difference! with same engine settings, it lifted half throttle!

so, if you are having lifting problem, try semi-blades if you have not done so, just some sharing.

Cheers

Hi guys,

Glad you found your copy of the engine manual, mainly because I can't now find the original manual now! Given up on the Hirobo engine anyway and haven't touched the heli for ages. Just about to try a Zenoah engine instead. One of the guys at the heli club owns an engineering company so is going to make me the adaptor plate to suit.

Hope you get yours working.

Wow! Isaac,

really a super cool heli. will be looking nice in the air with the new color scheme!

As I posted earlier, would recommend semi-blades to generate higher lift and can fly at lower scale like rpm.

I can see yours has the same metal flybar center piece as mine. which is at least 20 years + too.

seems like a great project, and please do keep us posted with your progress....

good luck!

Regards,
lawrence

Hi Isaac,

Have to be honest with you that I am a real beginner level compared to many others on this forum . But will like to share some thoughts with you for sure.
I have brought my Bell 47 G to Asia earlier this year and hence will not be able to provide close up photos until my next visit.

I got my Bell 47G in an unflown conditions but far from the good conditions of your heli. few points to share:

-about the metal fly bar center piece, I would advise to check thoroughly and be easy at least first time fired up the engine, mine broken together with the one way bearing main shaft after first few times spooling up. A close inspection (i think) revealed that it is due to metallurgy ageing and/or fatigue issues? so, pelase be carefuly with that. Luckily a fellow flyer is kind enough to donate a spare one as Hirobo no longer carry this part.

-I am not sure about your engine but if it struggle to start up and keep running smoothly as mine did initially, a changeout of the carburetor diaphram and gasket kit will change the story! I changed all rubber parts in the carburetor (you can get gasket kit of your particular carburetor by searching online) because all the original ones become stiff (after 20+ years!) hence diaphram cannot pump in the petrol porperly.

-as you said that you are changing to 2.4GHz so that is good. I had really scary inteference with my original FM radio, the servos decided to do their own movements! spark plug in petrol engine can cause severe inteference to FM radio

- I am not sure about your 25CC engine but my and another fellow flyer with same engine concluded that these hirobo 20 cc engines are best when loaded up with high positive pitch on the main blades.

-I use futaba GY 401 as scale does not need latest gyros for 3D etc but still holding the head very very well. of course 3 axis gyro will be good !

-does your engine come with electronic ignition system? if so, here is a forum which Pete shared a lot of upgrading hirobo older's electronic ignition system.

http://www.rcheliaddict.co.uk/hirobo...tml#post886688

all i can think of for now. will post mroe if I can think of any more..

Cheers

Lawrence
