Two weeks ago I posted saying that I was thinking about getting a Mini-Titan SE to supplement my TREX 450 SE. The prevailing opinion seems to be that the TREX is better than the Mini-Titan, and it may be. I finished mine, though, and after some fine tuning I have to say that the Mini-Titan does not get the credit it deserves. The head was much easier to set up than the TREX and I didn't have any collective/cyclic interaction problems. I was also able to get more throw without any interference in the head. I've always had trouble getting more than -9 degrees on my TREX without binding on forward cyclic. So if your in the market for another 450 don't overlook that one. I really like mine. The setup is stock except I put a Hacker A20-6XL in it. Servos are Hitec MG-65's and the tail is the Futaba 401/9650 combo.

I started with Trex 450 then changed to the Mini Titan and never regretted that move.

Without wishing to upset the Trex fans, I think you will find yourself flying the Mini Titan more than the Trex

I've heard nothing but good things about the Mini-Titan. Hopefully someday, I'll be able to acquire one also like you just did.... I hear there even a bit more stable than My Trex...

That's interesting.....I've never heard anyone say the trex is better than the mini-titan....ever! I have heard people say parts support is not as good but that's it.

ksechler: Where did you get the "prevailing opinion" from and from how many people?

The Mini definitely gets the respect it deserves!

I guess it was just my gut. There aren't any Mini-Titan sections here at RCU and if you ask someone what 400 size to buy the TREX always comes up but the Mini-Titan really doesn't. I read at helifreak that the Mini-Titan is heavier than the TREX, too. I'm not sure if that is the case or not. Mine is pretty nimble, in fact it is a lot more nimble than my TREX on the same motor and battery.

I bet it's simply because the TREX is so much more popular and parts are readily available. None of the LHS near me sell any parts yet alone the kit so I opted for the trex....

But at helifreak they do have a mini forum.

I had a 450SE...

I now have two Mini titans!

IMHO, much easier to setup. Cyclic feels smoother too. The Rex also seemed very "noisy" electrically.

How brittle is your wallet? If you're never going to move to nitro then a DX6i will get you by but I'd really reccomend a DX7

Many use the 401 with a 9257 or 9650

Any advice on setting up a Futaba 401 with a Spectrum DX7 ?
I have mine on a mini Titan, which flies OK on mild flying, however
if I give it sudden throttle the nose swings left as if the gyro was not working.

first thing to check is your pitch. sounds like you're giving too much pitch and the tail cant keep up. when the throttle stick is at mid are your blades at zero pitch? its either your pitch or your low headspeed or both.

Just finished building mine, I only put a inexpensive radio (jr6102 and gy400 gyro) I'm not planning to do some crazy flying coz I'm still in the process of learning how to fly, though I spent month in a sim and I think this bird will be a good start to hone my skill. When weather permits I'll be out in my backyard for the 1st flight...
