Default Jett In cowl muffer arrived

Jett Engineering IS back after two weeks without power from the Hurricane.

I called last Wednesday and today got my turbo-jett muffer for a 90L.

I got a H9 P-51 60 size slightly used and and the tail recoverd in blue.

It may not be extreme in speed but a good step up from the GMS.76 that was in it.

let me know how it turns out and what props. I have a OS120 in mine and made a new airfoiled stab for it. I am guessing its in the 100-110 range.

The fit is very good! I might have to cut the cowl for greater clearance.

Sounds good

should perform fairly well for you.....

DaveN has (had?) the same combination in his Corsair.

Bob,

I still have the motor in my corsair, but haven't flown it in at least 2 years. I was never really happy with the retracts in the plane, and haven't gotten around to putting in the set of phneumatics I have sitting in a box.

The engine runs great, If I remember right, its an apc 12x8 or 13x6..

not trying to be negative but I think that engine will get very hot with that set up. here some pics of mine. I would check the temp with cowl off for first flight and then with cowl on to see how warm its getting. thats an expensive engine and you dont want to burn it up. I know my set up will not work for yours. I can also tell you the exit needs to be atleast twice the size of the intake. the exit need to be unrestricted too.

Yeah, its good for a start.

The turbo jett wont give the giant rpm ... so do not expect to see it run at 15,000 rpm

The 12x8, 13x6 are good next steps. Torque on this setup is pretty impressive. You can try that 3-blade too.

Cooling wise.... not a problem as per the photos. Pleanty of air over the engine, and the muffler cooling is perfect. That old large cutout from the previous muffler will work nicely as air exit.

Need to cover up that huge hole up where the old needle valve use to be [&:]

The turbo looks like it fit pretty well without cutting the cowl too much. Installation is nice!

Mount the needle valve back on the firewall (see photo of my p-51)

cooling will not be an issue here...

1) the cylinder is out in the slipstream
2) the cutout for a Pitts muffer by the 1st owner, is over 3 times the frontal inlet area.

just making sure. I have never ran a bigger Jett with the incowl and wasnt sure if there would be much heat in it around the crank and lower cylinder. I going to see if jett will make me a BSE 120 fire for mine. If they can I will have the header exit thru the outlet and the pipe just under the wing if it will fit.

Crazy:

Looks good, more air than in my Alley Cat & things stay cool with 11 X 8 and around 14,- 15,000rpm with my 90L. Infra red temp. guns are now relatively cheep and work well, though must admit I stole mine off son's tool truck. Take base lline temp. with no cowell, should be around 220-260, and check with cowell back on. Should be close to same if things are right. Have not pushed this engine with a 11 X 10 or so cause the racing speed I need to keep up with the locals and rules are not achievable unless Daven was flying. Have been thinking a 120 sized 3D bird for the 90 just cause it runs so well. Am enjoying 3D cause I can see the darn things. The gang has all but given up trying to catch that 60LX powered "thingy" I fly for the fast stuff. ENJOY

Well I got 1 deer on saturday slept in sunday and got the Mustang flying.

Jett 90 L started with ease and idled great. Being very rich transition was moderate.

2 tanks of 10% to break-in on the ground and then fly on the rich side.

Take off went fine, gear up. Plenty of power, a little trim needed, P-51 flew fine.

gear down, on the downwind RFI put the plane in a steep climb and then straight down.[X(]

P-51 total loss. [:@]

Burried to the firwall...& no damage visible.

Jett 90L needs a good cleaning! And a new prop.
