Default OMP Yak 55 questions

Hey guys, I'm going to be buying a Yak 55 SP from a guy tomorrow. I'm not sure about what engine to put on it. I have a Saito 125 that I can use but am open to other suggestions. Will an Evo 100 pull it around and hover it okay? How much fuel will a 2 stroke use compared to a 4 stroker?

IMHO the 125 is about the best engine to put on it. The next best is a YS 110. I hate two-strokes.

If you are getting the ARF I would go with the O.S. 1.20AX engine. It is cheaper, more powerful, runs on 10% fuel versus 20 or 30 required for the 4s engines, and best of all vibrates much less. There is no other choice. Additionally the Yak is built VERY light and the 4S engines vibrate them quite a bit.

How about the O.S. 91? Would that work good on it? I'm just trying to think of an engine that would be cheaper than the 120 AX and better milage.

Yes, I ran the OS 91 for a long time before I switched to the 120. Still does a great job. Run the 15-4 wide blade props.

Well, I picked up the plane from the gentleman that was selling it. It's in excellant condition, looks new. But I'm still undecided as to which engine to use for it. Some of the guys from the field mentioned about getting a Evo 100 for it. I just haven't heard enough about them to decide.

I have this OMP Yak 55SP ARF I put an OS AX 120 on the nose. Fuel consumption is low due to the fact you can't fly it wide opened very long. (6 to 8 oz for 10 minutes) One of my friends has an EVO 100. The evo 100 will fly the plane. If you want wild 3D for hours and hours of fun save the frustration buy OS, Saito or YS. John at OMP told me to use a two stroke or sandwish the motor rails with light ply if installing a four stroke. Enjoy your new yak!

I guess I'll put my Saito 125 on it for now and see how it does with that. Thanks for the input.

I wouldn't let another person waste their money on an Evo 1.00....total waste of money, unless you swap the carb on it. by that time, you could have gotten another engine.

Ive had a saito 125 on mine for a year and It has been good n plenty. If its the arf just make sure the mount area has been glued well.

Oh Man!!! I love it. [8D] Very nice plane and the 120ax is a very good choice for it. I seldom ever get above 3/4 throttle with it and I get fairly good flight times with it. This plane has a big plane feel, tracks well, and the knife edging with it is awesome. I didn't have to pay anywhere full price for it but I would if I had to replace it.

Makes a good plane to practice with. Rolling Harriers, Blenders, Elevators,Heart breaks etc, etc. I found that it flies Identical to the 50cc Gasser's. Here is a shot of two a call my twisted sister's

The 120 Ax works well. You will enjoy exploring the envelope. I have never had something that will do crisp knife edge square loops before.

I get 10 mins on 2/3 tank.
