Thought I would share a couple pics. Both these Planes are Bridi Vagabond 40's. The first one I built from a bluejay kit, and the second one I am currently scratch building. The Vagabonds are more or less the same as the Kaos. The only real difference is the Vagabond has a Turtle Deck also means a different style canopy. The Vagabond is a great flying Plane!

Here is a Vagabond built from a Bridi Kit I got off Ebay last year and a Bridi Warlord 40 that I lost this spring but found another Warlord 40 on Ebay.

Correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't it Airtronics that had a Warlord 40 kit? I notice the Warlord fueslage looks alot like a Kaos, but the wing is not a double taper wing. Kinda looks like a Bridi Kaos with the wing off a Bridi Trainer 40. Both great looking Planes you have there!

Thanks. The nose of the Warlord 40 looks like the original Kaos cowl. Believe the the Airtronics kit was called the Warlock.

Now that sounds more like it! I believe you right about that! Somehow when you mentioned Warlord....Airtronics just popped in my head. Probably because I am not real familiar with the Warlord. I do however have the Bridi Dirty Birdy 60 on my short list to build someday. My buddy told me today that he is considering building a UFO this winter. He also has an original Bridi Kaos he built from kit that is a real nice flyer. We have a few guys at the field with the Tower Kaos ARF's, and they seem like great flying Planes as well even if the dimmensions are a bit different then the original Bridi Kaos. However the Bluejay Bridi Vagabond kit I built from kit was top notch lumber and the parts fit well. The destructions are not the greatest, but still a fairly easy kit to build for those wanting to build something instead of buying an allready built Tower Kaos Replica that isn't quite an exact replica. I must say though that I have never heard of a bad flying Bridi designed Airplane. I have come to the conclusion that any of them would be a good pick.

The Warlord is not as well know as the other Bridi kits. There is a 40 and 25 size version of the Warlord but the 25 wing is not scaled down. I am flying a Warlord 25 now and it is fun little plane. Airtronics also had a New Era in 25 and 40 versions, actually a scaled down Kwik Fli III.

One thing I find funny or strange is all the different wing spans the Kaos has had over the years. I believe the original Bridi Kaos had something like a 52" Wing Span. Here you can see this Tower Kaos 40 KIT has a 60" Wing Span (No its not my Plane nor do I know who it belongs to). http://cgi.ebay.com/Tower-Kaos-40-ai...d=p3286.c0.m14 The Tower Kaos ARF has a 55" Wing Span. The Bluejay/Bridi Utter Chaos 40 kit has a 56 3/4" Wing Span. Just funny how the wing spans have varied over the years. I am sure each design change has had a reason, but I have never heard of any of the designs flying bad whether they were original Bridi, Direct Connection, Tower, Great Planes, Bluejay, etc. etc. Seems they were all great flyers.

The Tower Kaos 40 kit box label is in error.
Well that definately makes sense because the Great Planes Kaos 60 kit said it has a 58" wing span. I thought it was strange that the 40 size would have a bigger wing span than the 60 size. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

I am still flying a Bridi Super Kaos 40 I built in the 80s, also called the Super Kaos Jr. The wing span of it is 52" and the Tower ARF Kaos 40 is 55" a little bigger. Joe Bridi sold the rights to the name Kaos and that is why there is a Killer Chaos.

Put the OS.46ax in the Kaos. I have been flying this combo for over two years without any problems. The only problem with the Kaos is the trim comes off (it is not real Monokote), you can always recover it.

I'm back from a long trip and decided to just build a new kaos though I was leaning towards a dirty birdy.found a place making foam core wings and I have plenty of balsa.should start this week and finish in a few weeks.I think my flying electrics of late helped doom my kaos.I noticed when I fly my 3d planes I can make sharp turns with no loss wing drop as they are light.on my fateful day I just forgot that a heavier bird cant turn as sharp especvially at a low speed.I knew electrics would screw me up lol.

Just finished my first Kaos. Tower Kaos 40 from a kit I got on Ebay.

The instruction book has weight at 5.5 - 6 lb. Mine weighs in at 5 lb 15 oz, and that's after 1.5oz on the tail to balance at the 4" from leading edge cg. It's got a OS .46FX up front and I guessing this BB engine is a bit heavier than the engines that were around when this kit was designed and that explains the nose heaviness. Receiver is a Spektrum AR7000 with a 900mah 2S lipo running through a 5A BEC, so the radio gear is very light compared to a PPM/PCM and Nicad setup.

Anyway, pics below. I had a bit of a color mismatch on the transparent monokote.

Hope to fly soon.

" I saw the only De Havilland Kaos take-off turn and crash "
Back in '87 in Hertfordshire England in a typical freezing Winter's afternoon in an attempt to impress his then Girlfriend John De Havilland
fired up his nosed OS 60 Kaos erratically took off and turned right equally erratically , promptly " froze" right aileron and promptly
carreened into the Only Gorse bush surrounding a mature Birch . Upon this he turned to his Girlfriend and said " What do you think of that ?"
The frozen sardonic retort came back " smashing !"
That saying Old Planes like Flyers never die - they just scatter their parts was never truer .
Strange thing out of the carnage the wing was undamaged the tail feathers too . The Fuselage was totalled and the Motor buried .
Twenty One Years later I still have the retrieved wings etc in my loft. The Motor I still have which has totally been rebuilt and serviced and still
powers like crap off a shovel and has powered several other planes .
Bring this up as a fond memory of " Crasher" de Havilland as he was revered by all of us at the time which aptly summed him up one whose
iconic heritage in aviation unfortunately never quite attained his R/C Flying ability .

I have also a later squarer part - finished Kaos and also a Boxed Great Planes Kaos and will be flying these birds later .
Also have an Ole Timer Bridi 80 inch Kit one of the last of the Bridi Inventory sold to me by Jeff Follin .

nice job cv...I am almost ready to cover my second kaos.I am using a foam wing that I bought from dynamic balsa.looks great!I am seriously considering building a dirty birdy.there is a kit available but like the kaos all I need are the plans.what I like about building these classic patterns is the ease of construction as well as flying performance.I saw the article in a model magazine where a guy built a tower 40 and made it electric.I am thinking of doing the same but maybe with a dirty birdy 40 size.does anyone have videos of kaos flying?

Maidened the Kaos today. When I was building and I took the plane to a club meeting, everyone who had ever flown a Kaos couldn't stop telling me about how it flys "like it's on rails."

I now appreciate those comments. This thing tracks and tracks and tracks. Took it through the Sportsman manuevers and even threw in a few snaps and two attempted Lomcevaks. Fantastic.

The only building note is taht I think my CG machine is doing wierd things. The weight in the tails was way too much and between flights, I took off 1.25 oz from the tail weight.

Hey Cloudancer03,

If you like the old stuff as much as I do, take a look at www.eurekaaircraft.com. They have all kinds of goodies and at reasonable prices too. There are also other sites that have more of the "Classics"...

I just checked the link and see they have a Tiger Tail short kit. Never had the Tiger Tail but did have two Southern R/C Bobcats (40 size Tiger Tail) back in the 70s. Got a full kit off Ebay a year ago that is on the to do list. Back in the 70s a Tiger Tail kit would have cost you over $300 in todays dollars.
