Scaling up a model to full size?
So we're all flying scale models of real airplanes around... has anyone thought about scaling up a model to be large enough to sit in and fly? Something like maybe a Rascal scaled up to a 35' wingspan, or a Super Sportster bipe scaled up to a 20-25' span? Maybe a Dualist with a couple O360's, or maybe a a Hotts scaled up?
Aerodynamically speaking, how would these things fly?

A couple planes come to mind one is the Cri Cri

The other is the Beach Boy,

Neither of these had a wing span of 35 ft, more likely less that 20 ft. Both are human piloted. The Cri Cri is aerobatic. There is even one that is jet owered.

The outlines would likely fly just fine. However the materials and building methods would be both too heavy and too weak all at the same time. There's a reason why full sized structures are greatly different from what we use in models.
Also if you scale up a lot of models you'll find that the fuselage is still only big enough to get a 7 year old to fit. This is why so many scale models of full sized planes look like they have way too fat a fuselage by model standards.

Ugly Stick. Speaking of Phil Kraft. There was little difference between Phil Kraft's full scale Super Fli and the model.

For years I have threatened to make a full scale Ugly Stick so everyone would have a scale plane! Top Gun won by an Ugly Stick!
