Nothing is better then a great day of flying and hanging out with new friends at GA Jets! Could not have asked for a better day, the weather was perfect! What a great facilty and group of people. Rex's Lightning, Doug's Eurosport, Ricks turbine converted Byron's BD-5J, Fred's Reaction and my Kingcat. Thanks to Mike for all the great photos and video!

We have our days here in Georgia, but flying year around is always an option.

Yep, same here in VA. We had a great day on Sunday - lots of guys out for our "postponed" New Year's day flyin. Light wind, sunny, temps in the high 60's. I test flew a buddy's Thunderbird Flash for him (twice). The first flight was VERY exciting. Turns out he had literally copied the expo. values from my Futaba TX to his JR TX. If you've never flown a plane with negative expo on a JR, DON'T DO IT - its not fun!

Took me 3 approaches to get it settled down enough to get it on the ground. The next flight with the expos in the right direction was MUCH better... [8D]

Perhaps Rick can chime in, but he told me its a Byron kit that he converted to turbine, a Jet Cat P80. It flew very nice, seems to me I saw it featured on the 2005 Super Jet South DVD published by Propwash http://www.propwashvideo.com/dbID/146.html; here is another photo. I hope to have a link to a nice video shot the same day by the weekend.

The BD 5 was flown as ducted fan, it is now powered with a P 80@ 17# thrust, it weighs 21 dry. It is fun to fly and it takes a while to slow it down to land. I reinforced the bulkhead that the spar fittings attach too and moved the ele. and rudd. servos to the aft. there are more photos of the engine installation on RCU, ( search BD5J ). It is painted with PPG products. Thank You, Rick

Hey Bob,
I suggest for all future maidens, bring some Depends with you. That was some great flying with lots of negative expo on a JR radio.
