Default 2WD or 4WD ST What would you rather have?

Hey guys and gals...

For you that have both, what is more fun? I mean climbing, bashing, speed, handling, and you that have one or the other, or both, what do you like about it? Would you rather have a 4WD like the HPI MT, or a Losi or Rush or RC10GT. Please keep in mind I will not be racing.

Thanks!
Andrew

if your not gonna be racing i would sugest a monter truck as aposed to a ST. monetrs are a lot of fun for just backyard bashing, climbing, etc. i have an e-maxx and evader currently and have found i use the e-maxx about ten times more. granted i do live only about 2 miles away from a off rec park for fullsize cars so that could be one reason hehe. just found that a monetr such as the e-maxx can go many more places and do a lot more things. so since your looking for nitro i have heard good things about t-maxx and the savage.

Well if money is an issue and a lot of people would say know do to lack of after market support.

Get a Duratrax or low end brand. Or a CEN MT2. They are lowered price and still good all around bashers. Speed wise won't keep up with a TMaxx but still a lot of fun. My OFNA Hyper 7 PBS that I paid more for it than my TMaxx won't keep up with the TMaxx if you base it on speed alone. Just because it is fast does not mean better. Even though I do like the TMaxx.

For bashing off road you do not need high speed. You need good controland a lot of jumping and so forth. I find it easier to control my buggy for jumping being a single speed, I use the throttle to control its flight through the air. If it had a second gear, and hit second in the air, it would just flip over backwards instead of staying level. Can't tell you how many times that happens with the 2 spds at the off road track I go to.

Hope that helps.

ok, thanks for opinions guys!

Some more:

I will be running on grass, will a 4WD mae a huge difference in the handling and coping with it?

I do want a fast one. Not expensive huge fast, but enough to keep me busy controlling it.

Can anyone tell me what them radio shack jobs go? I canprob figure our spped from that

Thanks

Come on now, you really need to lean out your cen truck.
Just so you know, you got it backwards. I dont know about Duratrax but our MT2 will do over 45mph while the others wont.

Noone is saying CEN is bad or anything. It is just more afordable. I was just saying don't choose something just because it is fast or anything. My OFNA buggy only does low to mid 30's. It is more than fast enough to kick some nitro butt.

But was recommending cheaper or lesser prices alternatives. CEN you can buy new off EBay for under $300. You can get Duratrax stuff from Towerhobbies for under $300. It fits his budget. Both of them. I am thinking of getting the MT2 for my 6 year old. Just questioning durability.

A Hyper 7 PBS only does low 30's? What's wrong with it? vwtrey has a stock LX Pro I know does well in excess of 40 mph.

What would be the perfect ST? A Factory Team RC 10GT in a 4WD version.

According to OFNA if you only have single speed tranny. All of the buggies only go 30 - 37'ish. To get right around or above 40'ish you need a 2 speed.

I have seen some slow trucks and buggies win races everytime. Think about you average off road track. You do not want to be the fastest all the time.

RCCA magazine, March '03 issue. Tested Ofna LX Pro, 46 mph out of the box.

That is cool to hear - did it have a single or a 2 speed?

I was repeating what OFNA Tech support was saying. They were saying to get over 40 you need a 2 spd.

I'm assuming since it was tested "out of the box" it didn't have any mods. The LX Pro doesn't come with a 2 speed.

Yeah, 4wd, you'll have more traction, plus, like studysession said, you won't get stuck as easily.
