Those of you who have installed an OS 46 AX in the plane and have flown it, how well does that engine handle the plane? I am not looking for speed but do want the ability to do basic aerobatics such as stall turns, loops, etc. I also have an older OS 61 SF but am afraid this might be to much for the plane. Any comments? How about an Enya 80 4C? Thanks for any input.

I had (have) and Evo .61 in mine. I mounted mine sideways - no problems. It flew great, especially for basic aerobatics. I also had a Magnum .804S to start, but the engine and I had issues, that's why I went to the .61 2S. I know other folks out there have flown their's with the .46, but I wanted to have a little extra just in case. Mine flew great at 1/2 throttle, but always nice to have that extra. Once I get in the mood to rebuild the front end after my crash, I will be installing an HB .612S.

I am in the process of building my Hangar 9 Piper Pawnee. I read EVERY post (about 6 hours) and have gotten a lot of great advice and saved a lot of photos. I am using a GI Joe Aircraft Pilot with Leather Jacket ($8 Ebay), Saito Golden Knight .82 with Slimline Pitts Smoke Muffler, TME SmartSmoker kit. However, does anyone have any photos of how they setup their smoke system and the best place to install the smoke system for balance?

I'm starting my Pawnee. I've had it NITB since the first run. Did you guy's find that the landing gear block needs to be reinforced with epxoy and the fire wall as will?

I'd recommend doing both, but that's usually what I do on all of my planes. Just an extra bit of peice of mind.

Cheers! BH

Yes reinforce! I had to several times. The landing gear is very stiff and unforgiving.

Mine arrived yesterday. Very nice looking kit !!!
I had a quick look at the parts and at a glance, everything seems to be in top shape.

I also biught an engine at the same time. It's a Saito 82 Golden Knight,

A couple of ideas for detailing:

1. Cut off that little red dummy light on top of the canopy and replace with a flashing LED. I'm pretty sure the diameter is about the same as a standard LED cover
2. Fit a landing light in that round opening in the front of the cowling (not as sure about this one though

I used a RAM for my rotating beacon. The lens came from Radio Shack. I also thought about the landing light in the cowl, but decided against it becuase of space issues.

This is the easiest ARF I've put together. Very high quality. Just finished the tail fathers. I did get rid of the plastic Clevises for the tail guys with Sullivan Gold-N-Clevises.

What did you use for power in your Pawnee?

I have an unused, NIB, Pawnee 40 fuselage, that is damaged. The tail is attached but snapped and there's some minor crush damade to the turtle deck at the canopy area. Otherwise it's fine.

Anyone know what a fuselage is worth? Damaged like this?

Maidened the pawnee today..........Flights absolutley beautifull!!!!!! The 55 is more than enough power for this model.....it is extreamly relaxing to fly, couldnt believe how little effort it took to get off the runway , the flaps are very effective on landing, really drops the speed down.

Nice to here about your maiden. Start wondering if my Super Tigre G60 is to big for this plane? Any one who have such a big 2-stroke in this plane before?
My building progress goes rather slow due to the winter weather here in Sweden. Today -6 degrees Celsius (about 21degrees Fahrenheit) and a light snowfall.
I hope it will be an early spring this year, three new planes to do maiden flight with, and possibly i gonna buy a new Pitts Phyton tomorrow on one of my local hobby shop's "Sunday Deal"

Got to the motor mount and found out it was to narrow for my Saito FA 80. Had to grind out the sides and back and counter sink one bolt hole. A four stroke throttle linkage work great.

Fuel tank placement? Did most of you guy's place your fuel tank in the front of the box, next to the fire wall? Or move it to the back of the box closer to the CG?

Moved the fuel tank about 25mm back from the firewall. Battery pack is hidden under the base of the seat in the cockpit, no other weight needed to balance..

TO PA BEN. I LIKE YOUR THROTTLE SET-UP. I DID MINE LIKE THE MANUAL. SEEMS TO WORK FINE BUT I THINK I'LL CHANGE TO YOURS. I PUT THE BATTERY UNDER THE FUSELAGE AHEAD OF THE TAIL WHEEL. A LITTLE EXTRA WORK BUT THE PLANE BALANCES WELL. I HAVE A SAITO 82 INSTALLED & THE PLANE WEIGHS 8LBS 7OZ

Well, good news today. After my crash this past summer, I finally got off my behind the last couple of days and have finished my repair job. The firewall support framework now looks like a girder bridge, but it a heck of a lot stronger than the original. Now just have to finish mounting the engine. Undecided between the HB 61 or my Magnum .65.
