Default Fliton Element 170 Bipe

Well... I have my hands on the bipe. I picked it up from Alex at the AMA Expo this past weekend. I'd post photos here but unfortunately the transportation that brought the kit back up to the San Francisco Bay Area (along with other goodies I bought) broke down on Hwy 5 late Sunday night. I was supposed to pick it up yesterday but will do so tomorrow. I knew I should have given it to Riot3D to bring back for me...

In looking over the kit I'm very impressed and happy with the construction and all the assortment of parts that came with it. My preference is to go with electric on this plane but I need to weigh it to find out whether it will make weight. If not, then I'm putting in a YS 170 CDI...

I'll have pictures tomorrow (Wed.) after I pick up the plane.

If you've given it to Riot3D, the fuse would be in at least two to three pieces, since the car wasn't long enough for that fuse.

Not any more, I didn't agree with their team tactics. I'm currently negotiating with Team One Wing Low ...

I dunno Adrian, in a bipe thread, I hear that when Team One Wing Low fly's inverted, that the one low wing is now high and they get all confused. Maybe Derek will show us how that works in a few years when he gets it done..

Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. Have you even opened up the Rogue 3D bipe you bought 2 years ago? How about the Insane foamy you bought? Must be nice to have someone build all your planes for you... [sm=49_49.gif]

Rogue what? Insane what? Well, I don't have a Rogue, have a mini inspire though, RTG by the way. And the Insane, well, you got me there. I do need to build it (or rebuild it) as I put her in today. She didn't fare so well. I knew when I left this morning that today was her last day. I needed the equipment out of it for another project.
So, did you pick it up yet? Is it done yet? You know, Livermore is only 15 minutes from here. I KNOW WHERE THE BIPE IS!!!! lol

Seriously, are you done yet?

How bout now?

Now?

N?

Ok, here are some pictures of the plane... since this is one of the 1st production prototypes the weights on the plane are on the high side. I've already provided feedback to Fliton about the weights so I expect to see much reduced weights on the production versions. I'm going to build this with a 170 since going electric would only add to the weight.

The 2nd picture is the top wing and the 3rd picture is the top of the low wing and the 4th picture is the bottom of the low wing. The goodies bags contain the tailwheel, wheels, pull-pull for rudder, control horns, nuts and bolts for the wings and the struts, and the servo rods and linkage ends (all ball links).

You should make it electric. So what if it is a bit overweight. It's a prototype. I think the only concern would be if the battery location relative to CG is ok, it seems it would be ok based on the chin cowl layout.

Besides, you could give them ideas for what to improve on future electric versions. That would help them kick out a nice electric version sooner

Derek,
What does the Element Bipe weigh? Is there a finish in the engine compartment? From the pics it doesn't look like it, if there isn't that is a problem.

Ya Derek....weigh the thing! The scale is sitting right there!

Weigh the gear, and take a measurement from mounting plane to axle height

I'm also interested in weights...
My ZN Suxess is 7g overweight with the Ys170 at the moment, so I'm curious about this one!

I thought the bipe was going to be a composite version??
