RE: NEW 92" ASM A-26 INVADER
OK, I broke down and got one. Hobby People $349.00. Good deal. I was thinking of going with a pair of Rimfire 50-55-650 and a couple of 80A ESC and 6s 4000 batteries.
What do you think to much? Any suggestion would be great.
Thanks

RE: NEW 92" ASM A-26 INVADER
I hope I can get a replacement cockpit windshield, I wanted to go with shoe goo for it's quick grab and it got all over the windshield, not very happy now. does anyone have any suggestions for getting this windshield in place without glue going everywhere. White canopy glue takes forever to dry and doesn't grab at all and the thin framing at the front just won't stay down, totally pi$$ed off

RE: NEW 92" ASM A-26 INVADER
airegal1,
I didn't use any glue at all. I used "Small" black cap head screws along the bottom side of the windshield secured from one of the screw mfgs. For the top strap I used 5 minute expoxy, VERY, VERY carefully with a tooth pick, applied it to the underside of the cockpit strap and let sit for a few hours. I also blocked it up from the cockpit floor board to the bottom the windshield to hold it in place until it was dry. I then ran some 3/8" flat black tape around the bottom of the winshield where it meets the fuslage. I reapplied new yellow tape escape makings and it's done.
I'm sure that there are other ways but this worked fine for me. Hope this helps.
Tom
PS: Call Hobby People in Fountain Valley,CA and I beleive you can get a new windshield through them.

RE: NEW 92" ASM A-26 INVADER
The Bird is ready to fly except for gear doors. The ASM instruction booklet and the quality of parts don't seem to match. Anyone got a better idea with perhaps a picture or two?
Thanks,

PS: The picture was taken before the interior was finished. The top turret turns 360 and the 50's go up and down controlled by a spare channel on the radio

Hey Streetfuz, I made up some hatches that span across the retract opening, cut out for the wheel and strut, painted them black and you hardly notice them, the gear doors were a total nightmare, not to mention pieces of crap

AMEN to that!! No more china pieces of crap. I might buy Great Planes and TopFlight but that's about right now. When I finished the T-Cat I took one test "Roll" up and down the strip and haven't touched it since.

RE: NEW 92" ASM A-26 INVADER
I haven't seen the F7F from ASM yet but if it's anything close the A-26 as far as gear doors go I wouldn't touch it. You can get the KMP F7F, change the retracks out and fab you own gear door hinges and retrack mech. That's what I had to do. Col Winters, a Fine WWII pilot on the T-Cat fourm, built his F7F several times over but did come up with a good fix. The only down side is you've got to spend many dollars and many, many more hours of labor and misc parts, severos, hinges, etc to make it work.
Don't get me wrong, the ASM A-26 is a Great Bird and looks great when all put together. If you have any questions, email for my home phone number and I'll be glad to go over everything with you.

RE: NEW 92" ASM A-26 INVADER
got my a26 on monday disapointed with the finish of the covering...several crease marks which wont come out and various dents in wing sheeting still best get on with it and stop moaning i have decided to put 2 x os 91 fs pumped surpasses in this beast as i heard a comment in uk that 70 fs engines are a bit short on power and you spend most of the flight at full power .... this has shown a problem already and it looks like some major revamping of firewall and some serious strenghening of nacell sides to accomodate the larger engines... even if i was going to put 51 two strokes in her the firewalls would be suspect...hardly any glue and they look like they would fall apart...on the plus side all surfaces fitted together nice and would seem to require minimal working before glueing ...it would seem that a 280 cc tank is as big as you can get into the nacell clearing the wing and my calculations point to a max flight time of about 11 min aim to land after 9 ...mmmmm not very long dunno how to overcome this so im open to ideas from anyone.....dont like the look of these elevator push rods so some sullivan golden rods are called for i think. looking at the cockpit areas desperatly need some scale detail does anyone know of a stockist of this ?......anyway off to do some building will post photos later

RE: NEW 92" ASM A-26 INVADER
I've received the motors, batteries and speed controls for the A-26. Were using the Turnigy 42-60-500 SK motors for this plane, Flightmax 3S 5000 Mah packs in parallel and the suppo 100 amp speed controls from LightflightRc. 13X13 Graupner 3 blade props. These are rated at 1475 watts each. I'll report back with some wattmeter numbers when I test one this weekend.
I needed to extend the firewall and make a battery box to fit the large packs right behind the motor, I figured this was the best way to accomodate the batts and solve the weak firewall problem at the same time. I moved the firewall forward 1-1/2" as this gave me the perfect spacing for the motor to mount directly to the firewall. The packs fit in the space like a glove, unfortunately you have to remove the prop and cowls to get at them but I figured this was better than chopping an access panel somewhere else on the nacelle. I also needed to remove about 1/2" of motor shaft that was protruding into my battery space, quick work for the dremel.
I also finished up the air control and fill valve on the center section underneath the top removable hatch, put the switch in there also. This pic was taken before I finished the air lines.
Here's a few pics.

RE: NEW 92" ASM A-26 INVADER
hi guys, I have an A-26 in the box and am cuttently flying a nitro models 90 inch p-38 on electric. I am using two Electrifly 50/55/500 outrunners with 70 amp controllers and two 3 cell 4000 mah packs in series on each engine turning 13X8 props at about 9000 rpm. Accelerates rapidly and flies well at about 1/2 throttle. Drawing about 35-40 amps at full throttle. 15 pounds and flies like a trainer. BUt with three fuselages there is a lot of assembly and disassembly involved each time I take it to the field. I am going to use the same set up in the 26.
I noticed a comment way back in 2008 that a flyer was using magnom 70s with 13X6 props and was unhappy with performance. Way too little prop. Should be using 13X8 or more props. I found with my Saito 80 on a Tiger 60 that a 13X8 prop increased performance tremendously even when compared to 13X7s See Yah..

You mention you are using 3S in parallel and a 500kv motor, Turnigy 42-60-500 SK motors, with a 13"x 13 prop = 5,500 rpm. Do you think that will be enough rpm ??????????
I have some twins Honda jet, TT62 all with 3 blades I am turning 9x6 3 blade over 10,000 and a 10x6 3 blade close to 10,000 at max power take off then back it down. Master Airscrew props

Hi DGM
You mentioned -I am using two Electrifly 50/55/500 outrunners with 70 amp controllers and two 3 cell 4000 mah packs in series on each engine turning 13X8 props at about 9000 rpm.
Two 3S in series for a 6S at 22.2 volts x 500kv = 11,100 rpm
Now I can see your setup working great with the 13 x 8 props.
1/2 throttle would be like auto cruise.

RE: NEW 92
I would think, since they show using KMS 4120/05 brushless motors which, is a great motor, it is 50mm dia x 55.5mm length 3-5 cell lipo, 710KV. Designed to they sayIt will hover a 5 lb 3D plane and is great for up to an 8 lb sport plane.
I think the TURNIGY AerodriveXp SK Series 50-55 580Kv / 1580w. Dimension: 54x50, Kv: 580rpm/v, Cell count: 4~8 Lipoly, Rated Power: 1580w, ESC: 80A
, Suggested Prop: 12*6, 13*8, 14*7, 15*9, Power equivalent : .61+ glow engine. I might look at using Masterair screw 13x8 3 blade props one CW and the other CCW rotation.
Makes the SK 50-55 look pretty good at half the price.

RE: NEW 92
Ok, I see this thread has been idle for awhile so I hope someone will chime in as I need some help. I have a ASM A-26 in the box and I am still buying parts before I begin assembly.
1. What Servo's do you guys recommend for this kit? Please be specific. The intructions just say high torque.
2. What Motor, ESC, and Battery Size do you recommend? The intructions do specify products is this case but have you found a combination that works better? I am only interested in scale flying
3. Should I run a Gyro?
Thank your for your input, I just love this forum!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !
Best Regards,
Gary

RE: NEW 92
Rampage,
Sorry I have'nt visited this thread for awhile. My packs were in series not parallel, I must have been confused that day.
Unfortunately the maiden did'nt go well, I pulled a stupid move by cutting back to much throttle turning into the wind. Flew great otherwise.
greeter,
I used Futaba 9405's on all the critical stuff, elev, ail, rud, and used some cheaper high torque Cirrus for the flaps. Futaba 148 for the retract valve.
2-3S 5000 mah in series, 100 amp Suppo esc, Turnigy sk 42-60-500, 13X13 3 blades.
I had a gyro, did'nt use it. With this set-up motor, batt, and esc did'nt even get warm. 1232 watts @ 52 amps
