1. Reactions would be too slow.
2. Spinning a propeller backwards would not produce same thrust as forward.
Even with VPP unit ESC has to have a very quick response to instantly adapt the RPM to pitch change.

Well like I said fast RPM response is very important. Governor mode is not necessary because it is better to set up throttle and pitch curve on a transmitter for 4D and another setting for 3D or for classical aerobatic flying. This way, modes can be switched in flight. To switch of governor mode on an ESC means programming on the ground. So, only important feature for 4D flying is a fast RPM response. Everything else is same as for 3D (minimum weight, cut off,…). Oh and more affordable price than CC Phoenix ESC.

If you dont use Governor keep an eye on the pitch and RPM. You can easy overamp your system.

If you open the pitch too much you will not get much of a thrust. I set the pitch curve end point between one and two amps over specified max current for the motor. This way I got the most thrust

Hey All,
So, I'm currently trying to do just what the orginal guy suggested ... I'm not necessarily looking to fly 4-D but want to have short landing and reverse on the ground for handling.

I'm using a MGM-Compro 2560 Z-Series ... which is a car/boat ESC and therefore has a reverse capability.

Is there a way to set up the radio so that a "Neutral" Throttle setting is the lowest point in one switch setting and once the switch is flipped, the reverse throttle curve is active?

Hopefully that makes sense. I basically don't want to try flying with the throttle in the neutral position ...

Thanks
Brandon
