Do you take engine temps while your running it? If so, what are they reading? I know when it was cold here I was using a hair dryier to get my motor up around 175. Then after priming it, she fires right up. So untill it get warmer, you may want to do that. Check you glow plug see if it still gets a lot of glow. Just pull it and stick it in you glow ignitor. When you bring idle down and she dies, may be that your LSN is too rich and she's flooding at LS. I know my buddies Ofna buggy was doing that over the weekend. We turned it in 1/4 turn, no only was the responce super nice but the low end bog went away. How long have you had this motor? Plus another thing to check is that your HSN isn't too lean. When leaning out the HSN it can bring up RPM's, no by much but you will notice that when you richen it up it'll calm down a bit.

i dont have a temp gun but i was able to touch it with out getting burnt
i know its not lean on the high speed needle because there is blue smoke coming out
the glow plug is brand new because i thought the old glow plug was bad but it didnt change
the motor has had about a gallon threw it and has good compression

I'd try leaning it out a bit more on the HSN and maybe trying turning in the idle screw to pick up RPM's a bit. Let me know how that turns out.

i just put a VX .18 in my lightning, and i have been having the same problem. it'll run fine for awhile, then when the car comes to a stop, it'll bog down and won't run properly. seems like it sticks in 2nd gear and won't power out. i haven't tried to lean out the LSN yet, but i'll try once the rain stops, and post my results. another thing to check for is the carb nut, and the exhaust manifold gasket. check for leaks

I put my vx .16 in the Hpi RS4 and it runs like crap. I've tried everything and now I'm thinking I have an air leak. I hear the back plate is notorious for that. But trying turning out the idle screw to bring it down and turn in the LSN. See what that does. Maybe help........may not. If not, then break the motor down and seal everything. Check your heat sink too. Mine was loose once and wouldnt run right.

take off the air filter and set the idle to 1mm space in the carb. then reset the hsn and the low speed needle. It sounds like ur running everything way too rich. it seems odd but once you get everything leaned out correctly it should stop rolling without engaging the throttle. Also i strongly suggest you buy a temp gauge ASAP because it helps alot when ur tuning ur engine

Take your air filter off and look at the barrel inside the carb. You'll see a hole when you rotate the throttle. You want that hole to only be open about 1mm. Man it sucks to hear you guys are have such trouble with your VX motors. I've about polished off my 6th gallon through mine, and it's still running like a scalded dog.

Man I'm not too sure you can kill these little VX's. I've ran mine lean as hell many times, and I've done some extremely rough stuff with my Tsunami. I'm mean I've been totally brutal with a capital B. And my little nami with it's VX .18 has taken all the abuse. Now yes, I have replaced many many parts on the nami it's self, but it's all been my fault. But to be completely honest, my engine hasn't hardly ever given me any trouble at all. Heck I'm still on my original clutch spring and shoes....go figure....it starts with 1 or 2 pulls everytime like clock work. I just bought a Hyper 7 with the .28 on it about a month and a half ago, and I still find myself going and pulling out the nami when the hyper gives me trouble. These little VX's may not be super power houses as far as performance, but man they will last forever.

I got the VX .16 out of my HyperSpeed, in my RS4 because I bouught a new SH .18 for it. And I can't get that thing to run at all. But I think my problem is an air leak. If I dont get the part for my Hurricane by the end of the week I'm going to try and seal up the 16. If feels like it has compression but after about 15-20 seconds she dies. I've tried, like you guys, all different screw settings and nothing works. That's why I'm leaning toward the air leak conclusion.

You mean the carb doesn't open or close anymore? WOW I wish I could help you with that problem. I'd think just putting it back in would fix the problem. Is there something inside the carb that fell off when the needle came out?

the carb moves just fine but i had to push on the side to get the screw back in and when it wasnt in i could move the center piece in and out
the center piece is the piece that the throttle linkage hooks onto

Back the idle screw all the way out and push the LSN part all the way in. Then screw in the idle screw. See if that helps.
