problem with a825 13/18 bell on tornado
I am new to the forum and to redcat so bear with me
I bought a tornado BB for my christmas present and have been very happy.
I recently stripped out my gears and broke my clutch spring (big surprise)
replaced my clutch shoes with HPI 87028 and bell with a825 13/18
I also ordered the roller bearing and bushings to go with it
when I installed it I noticed there was no shoulder inside to keep the bell from sliding off and my pilot shaft appears to be too short
I have seen several times on this forum that this bell will work with the bushings and bearing but I cannot seem to figure it out.
I also bought the 06047 u-joint shafts from redcat and they do not fit
there appears to be another shoulder further in the knuckle that could possibly hold a smaller inner bearing
If anyone is using these PLEASE help me
I have been trying to contact redcat but my work schedule does not allow me to call during their bussiness hours and they havn't returned my e-mail
I love my tornado and I do not want to give up on it or redcat
thank you in advance

RE: problem with a825 13/18 bell on tornado
yep
I'm having the same problem he was but I actually have the bushings mentioned and a set of bearings that are the same size that i thought would work better
the problem is the pilot shaft is too short so if you tighten it at all the plastic cage on yhe roller bearings distorts and siezes
I will probably order the hpi flywheel and pilot shaft rather than use a spacer
thank you very much for the help - I did a search about 50 times and didn't find that post so that wa a HUGE help
I would still greatly appreciate any help on the u-joint shafts if anyone can
thanks again

RE: problem with a825 13/18 bell on tornado
OK -- I got my clutch bell fixed -- thanks guys
I still have not been able to get ahold of redcat about the CV shafts so I may just give up on them for now so I can get back out there.
I was twisting the original dogbones even before the mods and now I have taller gearing, taller tires and more power so I will probably eat them quick.
Does anyone know a tougher dog bone or a CV shaft that will fit
hopefully will have this together this weekend and post pics and a list-- quite a few mods -- tripled the price of the car and a month of working on it
thanks again

Those CVD axles are for the Volcano series trucks as far as I know that's all they fit at least as far as I KNOW the people that order them are ordering them for Volcanos. I could be wrong though.

Glad to hear you got the 13/18 bell to work I have the same set-up and love it. I use bearings instead of bushings they work a lot better, I just stacked the bearings (3 of them) on top of each other. I think you mentioned that you had bearings. Anyway welcome to the forum.

If your using that clutch bell, you need the needle bearings that go inside. You also need to make the pilot shaft longer by using a piece of tubing that will fit inside the bearing. ONce you have the tubing you take a long screw that will go through the tubing and into the pilot shaft.

RE: problem with a825 13/18 bell on tornado
Hi again, thanks so much for replying. Can I just use the HPI a805 pilot shaft instead of using the tubing? Is there already a link which explains the install? Thanks again!!
