Safety Hawk, those RC action shots are stunning. Are the first 2 HDR?
Yeah....the first two are indeed HDR.

nice pictures everyone....
I am clearly not on the level of photography that is on this thread (camera equipment wise) but i have a question that is a matter of suggestion. I am about to get a Rebel XTi or XSi, leaning toward the XTi. should I get the body only version? i have heard that the basic lens that comes with it leaves much to be desired. this is going to be my first entrylevel DSLR. What lens do you recommend I order if i get the body only. i will be mostly taking shots of the outdoors and my kids...and r/c.

thanks for any suggestions

For around $300 you could get a Tamron 28-75 2.8. It's a good range and at 2.8 it will be good for dim indoor shots. I used that lens as a starter and it worked great for general stuff and pics of my twin boys.

I would HIGHLY recommend the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 mkII lens. I know it sounds like I'm in love with this lens but I really am. Being only 13 years old, money is hard to get and the $80 I spent for this lens is really worth it. I find the 50mm focal length great for street shots, RC, and skateboarding.

What's your budget?

I would go for the XSi.

Yeah I have the 50mm f/1.8 mkII
The first and second pictures ^ are with it. Great lens.
What I would do is get the 50mm and sell your kit lens and save up for a 75-300 if you want.
The 75-300with a hood is less than $200. And I want my kit lens.

I would definitely go for the XSi. The XTi is old technology. I've heard that Canon kit lens leaves something to be desired. If you want to cover all your requirements with one lens, for about 400 bucks you can get either a Sigma or Tamron 18-200m Zoom lens with optical stabilization, Both are good lenses, but they are a little slow on the long end.....but that shouldn't be a problem taking action shots outside on sunny days. That would be a decent setup to get you in the door, and you can add on different and more specialized lenses as you go. The real question is what's your budget?

Get an XSi. The XTi is the old version. The kit lense (18-55mm) isn't cutting it for me but I love it anyway. It really is a good general lens. I would go for the body only and get something like Safety Hawk recommended.

Can you post pics from a 18-55mm and the 50mm. The same subject..I want to compare. As of now, I don't fancy the demo shots I've seen with it.

Here is a gallery, taken by me, from the local track. The local track has two tracks, one for 1/5th and one for 1/10th. These are of the 1/5ths;

I am just dabbling into the photography game. I have a Rebel XS with the kit lens, 50mm lens, and 70-200mm non is lens.

Landscape pics - http://jasongarrison.shutterfly.com/422

09 Detroit Auto Show - http://jasongarrison.shutterfly.com/2113

Hockey game - http://jasongarrison.shutterfly.com/2419

The hockey ones were taken with no flash and the 70-200mm non is lens so they arent the best. Little hard to keep that big ole lens still with no tri pod or mono pod.

just gotta balance your white/black,

Shooting in the shadows, into open light, it will over expose the area thats not in the focus field, you could try to do some minor hdr.

Nice shots though, I like the heel flip over the gap. Gaps always got into my head always afraid to come short and have the back trucks catch and face plant

The last and 3rd to last are using flash. It was the only way I could figure out how to light the place up but also to get the fastest shutter speed available (1/200) with the ISO speed I shot at. The second to last is something my buddy shot. No flash and IDK the settings.
What can I use for HDR?

And I do like that gap to shoot at now that I think a bout it. I want to go back and get something better.
