Default water retrieval robot

new to boats mostly fly giant scale and helicopters.
so please excuse my ignorance,
I am helping a friend of mine with a project and need a little basic info on a power system
we are building a retrieval robot that will pull fishing lines in surf
the unit will be powered with a 12 volt gel cell battery, entire weight of craft will be about 8 pounds
but must be able to pull at least 5 pounds.
so i need a brush less motor power system speed control and motor recommendations also prop
we want to use the 12 volt battery for power and also radio system
so either a good BEC or speed control with BEC will be helpful.

We need to know how big the boat is and its hull shape? / type?.

If you are going to use this for fishing, in surf, its going to need to be big and built to withstand the pounding surf. Its also going to need to be watertight and have LOTS of floatation in case it gets turned over.

I wouldnt go brushless though, perhaps a big Pittman (or other low rev, high torque motor) and a BIG prop so it has some pulling power.
