RE: Official NITRO RUSTLER thread!!
I have the OS 18 CVR. I want the TZ though. But trust me the CVR has plenty of power for this truck. On the stock rusty I had it on it would pull the wheels on demand and even when going down the street about 20mph and full throttle would still pull them up. On my project here it still tries to pull the wheels but just spins the tires I have on it now. It does flip back in the grass. I'm surprised that it does this as I have a heavy front now and my battery pack in the front also.
As far as perfect drop in. Short answer NO. It was not super hard but had to trim brace from fuel tank upper plate to tranny and trim front of tranny some to make room for carb. Other than that thats it. But if your wanting to do this do expect to mess up your tranny case some. I actually shaved the tranny case so much in front that the metal gear in the tranny case is showing some but not big deal at all. For me anyway. But much better than any motor I've seen in a rusty. My first O.S. i've purchased (at a deal on ebay for 40 bucks) SO much better than my other engines. Easy to tune and holds great temp.

I have an aluminum tranny case! So it would be so hard to grind that sucker down! So i dont know any other engine i can get in my rusty. I dont like the trx engines because of the composite carb which always cracks![] And Ballz34 were did you get your aluminum stuff especially the wide aluminum bumper! That looks great and im thinking to put one on my rusty

RE: Official NITRO RUSTLER thread!!
Yeah I want to get the aluminum case also but will wait on that and will get it only if I change to a ofna picco .21 or .23 with the mount plates for one of those engines. But cash tight so that be while. I ordered alot of my stuff off ebay actually. Everything was on ebay except the fuel tank and extended front and rear arms, and extended CVD joints. My arms came from this site http://www.neweramodels.com/cgi-bin/...1&shortlist=1#
also check this site as my extended cv joints came from here. http://www.addicted2rc.com/nitro_rustler.html
But look on ebay there are numerous pages of parts for rusty or sports on there. Just got to be patient and look through pages and search every couple days. But they are there.
Now I just need my roll cage, back bumper/skid plate or wheelie bar, and rims n tires. I have a body that will do for now. Cant wait whenever I finish this thing. Still got to adjust my toe in/toe out etc. But its so much fun.

Look on the new era site and they have a mounting plate that you can get on there or ebay and get a ofna/picco .21 or .23 engine and put it on there. I want to do this but cant at moment lol. I would love to hear about a rusty with one of those engines on there as I want to use one because mine is extended/wider and all aluminum and am wanting more torque and power. Dont really care bout the top end speed much.

JUST BROKE A BULKHEAD! [:@] And guess what else i found out, the battery holder was totally fried! When i opened it it was like a plastic goo! I had recharbable batterys in their too[] There quit expensive. Also the rear shocks got bent. I was thinking of getting the new era shock kit and get the titanium nitride shock rod and put that sucker in there! That would look bad @$$! Everything will be aluminum but the A-arms and get the nice look red anodized turn buckles [8D]

RE: Official NITRO RUSTLER thread!!
Thanks DrDaywalker. I got the fuel tank from a hobby web site. All it is is a Ofna 125cc tank for a 1/8 buggy. It fits perfectly in the opening to the rustler but just is taller. You have to have the adapter plate for it to mount right. Although You may be able to modify it without the plate. But the plate will make it easier.
USA: The mount should work on the .21 or .23 engine as it states on the site. It may work on .26 but I doubt it. let me know what you do as I would love to hear and see one of those motors in a rusty as Ive been thinking about doing that. You can find picco .21 or .23 on ebay much cheaper than any site I've seen.

Dont get a steel slipper clutch! It tranfers all your energy to your weaker gears! Its so easy to replace a slipper clutch but gears in the transmission case is a pain in the but. And you wouldn't need so much replacing if they were meshed right.

RE: Official NITRO RUSTLER thread!!
heres the setup i use for racing. it has run very reliably over two years of racing and the only thing i ever break are the ball ends on the turnbuckles.
in no particular order
rpm front and rear arms
aluminum tie-rod
aluminum caster blocks
graphite shock towers
aluminum shocks
steel yokes
ofna pipe
ball diff
ofna sx-0002 steering servo
traxxas 2070 throttle servo
spectrum radio gear
5 cell reciever batt
proline lugnut rear tire
proline edge front tire
now on dish rims
it also helps to replace the bushings in the bellcranks with bearings, spring load the brake lever (instead of fuel line), and for the love of g@d dont jack the rear suspension soo far that your chassis cant bottom out (touch the ground) thats why all of your rear towers are breaking. heres a few pics.

RE: Official NITRO RUSTLER thread!!
Nice truck nitrohobo. I had an extra plate/frame laying around here so thats why I started working on my project truck. It wasnt til after I was about halfway done with it when I noticed you can get extended chasis for it. Kinda wish I had that done also but the extended a-arms are nice and it looks good so far. How much trouble was it to get that .18 TZ in there, did you have to modify anything for it to fit.
Also, put some zip ties on that engine head to help protect it some from getting scratched up even more.

RE: Official NITRO RUSTLER thread!!
yeah it was pretty dam easy dude. im pretty much a noob i know my way around my ttruck thats about as far as it goes. its fun. to get the 18 tz in all you have to do is grind one motor mount about 2 mm maby that. for the pull start thing will fit on. i found it easyest to take the brakets and try and line them up with the holes on the motor. almost imidatily you should see were you have to grind. nitro sport i havent gotten a body for it yet. its last on my list i still need the reciver and my dam pull start cause. lhs has them on order hope there in this tuesday. yeah i had zip ties on it befor i took the pic but i wanted to show that its a tz . going to do what ive seen reasonly zip ties and fuel line looks pretty pimp. also ballz im so mad atm cause i bought mip steel cvds i cant get the rear extension and in the front i have titanium tie rods so i dont know when or if ill do the wider car

RE: Official NITRO RUSTLER thread!!
thats good to now about the spectrum been runing my can on road lately. its hauling i raced my friends eddie bower lol. just a little fun. any way i noticed my motor moves hella when i rev up. so with this happening its eatin my spur gear some thimes i can hear that clicking sound. its alright tho cause my gear is plastic and there cheap. so i was wondering what gear should i try next i hear they got like 70-75 and stuff i have a 72 tooth spur what will give my car more punch just wondering cause i do like driveing side ways . also here are some new pictures of my body havent cut the cooling holes yet. never mind ill post back when it lets me post them
