I just ordered my miss vegas rtr today and I'm already thinking upgrades. I have grims metal prop coming but want to know what else the most recent vegas hull needed to make it fast. Also is there an electric starter for the os 18? I'd like to eliminate the pull start. Thanks. I checked out the first page of this thread and want to know which of these steps are still relevant today?

Hey Anna , I think he ment he didn't like the idea of the supertigre engine in the new vegas, All the super tigres I have run [airplanes] have been power houses with the only issues with the carbs but once you learn about them they work pretty good, I have run all the sizes from .20 to 32.5cc and all ran great, I scored one piston because I was stupid with the needle but other than that not even a blown con rod or crank!!!!!!!

Form what jetpack told me the card are great workmenship.. they work great..F41 your better off didtching the pull start and electric starter and go with belt starter.. You gain more power from less drag=faster speeds! Camarroboy used a O.S backplate to the aquacraft.18 to make it belt starter..

Good idea on the belt start. Any part #s for that backplate and what size belt would be ideal for it? What's the smallest battery I could use for a starter? I don't want to lug around a car battery if I don't have to

F41,
which Vegas are you getting?

is it the new Vegas Deuce?

You can use a 12volt battery for the ride on power wheels trucks or a motorcycle battery.
if your not getting the Deuce Vegas look on tower hobbies and check for the back plate for the OS .18 CVR-M. if your getting the Deuce, I don't know if that plate will fit the Super Tiger.
like Grim said, the new Super Tiger drive works great and yo can remove the one way bearing if you want to use belt start.

What does that do for the performance of the boat? Do you just have to epoxy pieces of wood to the sponsons?

Our experience with the sponson mods is a 3 - 4 mph increase in speed and being able to run bigger propellers. The parts are glued to the sponsons with either CA glue or epoxy.

Hmm, that seems pretty neat, are there any specific measurements for the pieces or thread with instructions?

Thanks for your help

Check the buy and sell section or Ebay.

I have an older Vegas and thinking about putting sponson mods on it for a little extra speed, but with this new hull coming out....it may be better if I just wait and buy one already done...

Here's a vid of mine now...  http://www.youtube.com/user/trcpilot

um, sweet? let's see, do you mind telling me what your setup is? i have a vegas with a TZ, it was water cooled, and i could only muster 44mph out of her, multiple props/strut adjustments, i think it will run better now that it's aircooled with two wraps of cooling line, it was a cold day, and i know it wasn't getting real warm......
anyway, if you would like to share your setup, that would be most excellent!

great vid, keep up the great work............

My setup is listed ...I have a super modded  .18tztx I did myself...that's the key I think. I also have a Mac's 3.5 hi nitro pipe...a header that I made myself from 2 other headers to get what I needed to fit....air and water cooled ..just a few wraps around the bottom of the lower fins with some soft copper tubing...stock strut and a slick stick turn fin...I have about 20 or so props from Octura and Grim combined...the best speed so far has come from the Octura 1938/2 and the Octura 2137/3, which is what was on the boat in that video I posted. I had to put 6-8 .oz  of lead on the left sponson to keep the thing from going crazy and lifting and wiping out....so much torque I think.

My vegas has been sitting for about 2 years since Hurricane Katrina and now I finally have the time to run it. Hopefully there is still some interest in these boats.
Just installed a os .18 cvr thats been modded by TNT and macs pipe at
8.5". I also have a os .18 tz with a water cooled head. Going to see the difference between the two engines. Shouldn't be more than a few mph since the cvr is modded.
Took it out to gps it yesterday and she blew over
loosing the gps and hatch. Was running strong and carring the left sponson turning a x438 prop. Later I realized the strut screw had loosened and let the angle on the prop go
positive. Here some pics. Will post some gps runs soon as my new gps arrives.

I've used a moddedCVR and a modded TZ...the TZ is the way to go hands down. I'm not sure how you converted to water cooled button, but I would keep the TZ turbo button on it if I were you. I tried theCVR button on my TZ with a few little modsand the performance fell off.

Yeah I'm curious to see how much faster the tz engine is over a modded cvr. I might even try the tz air cooled head with copper cooling lines around it
first.
I bought the tz already modded for water cooled. Looks like he used the tz head. Hear is a pic of a stock tz head and one for
water cooled. Looks like the top was just of the button was machined so the top part of a cvr head would fit.

Here's a pic of mine with the copper wrap...it works much better with the stock button and air cooling fins....I also converted it to non pullstart.
