Default Tamiya SU-152?

First a Tamiya KV-1, then a KV-2. And next in all probabilityan SU-152 (an 152 L/32 howitzer on a KV-1 chassis), following the example of VsTank and of the Panther / Jagdpanther???? [Kindly NOTE: Last sentenceintended exclusively and for all intents and puposes as a question, as the "???" marks should indicate]
Thanks,
Oli

Tamiya don't have a history of releasing every variant of the one model just look at the Tigers no mid or late Tiger I no Sturmtiger no Jagdtiger also they have only released 1 Sherman variant out of over 12 variants on the same chassis so will only believe it when I see it and not when people start with lame rumors

Peace rivetcounter.

That was only a bona fide question after the news of the KV-2 release. My apologies if it made an inroad into your sensitivities. You are really under no obligation to believe anything else except your eyes.
Anyways, the release of a SU-152 would not be a bad idea for Tamiya.

Without any photographs to support this thread I'm surethat it's just an unsubstantiatedrumor for now.

Especially if its clearly not a rumour but a question, my dear PanzerkampfwagenV!!
But here's another"rumour" you might find interesting:
The SU-152 was a dual purpose gun, mounting a 152mm L/32 howitzer on a KV-I chassis. Its tank killing role was outstanding, and it would later be known as Zvierboy (Animal Killer) as it could knock out Tigers, Panthers, but also the giant Elefants. Prototypes of the KW-14 (later SU-152) on modified KW-1s chassis were completed in a record 25 days, and on February 7th of 1943 barely a month after the Russians captured their first PzKpfw. VI Tiger I, and the first twelve of the SU-152s were rushed to Kursk in July 1943, and an additional nine would arrive as reinforcements. SU-152's (as Jagdtigers) carried an explosive charge to destroy the cannon and the engine in case of capture danger.

Oli you like to play with semantics don't you? Let's show where your starting a rumor and then show where your question is shall we.
Where your starting the rumour is when you make this statement "And next in all probabilityan SU-152", your question though is here "following the example of VsTank and of the Panther / Jagdpanther?"
In answer to your question "
following the example of VsTank and of the Panther / Jagdpanther?" I'd answer no, rivercounter already answered you.

You should really read the whole sentence as a question, as it was intended, Panzerjaeger.
However, feel free to play around with it to your heart's content, semanticswise or otherwise.
With every good wish

Thanks diasycutter

At least they manufactured more SU-152s than very small number of 250 KV-2s (all in 1940-41, making it one of the rarer and more ineffective Soviet tanks)

IF Tamiya where to build another tank based on the same chassis I agree the SU-152 or JS-85 would have been the better choice but as Tamiya have chosen not to and built a JS-2 then you are going to have to live with it aren't you but it does leave the after market boys something to build, perhaps we will see Heng Long come up with one of these two tanks.

I'd love to see an SU-152 'Animal Killer' - Hopefully Modelino or Imperial Modelbau will step up to the plate and provide...?

Thank you Mart, I fully agree. It was never my intention to elicit such reactions and I definitely would not dream of accusing anyone in a public forum of "craving" arguments. Do allow me to point out in closing, however,  that the question mark was there from the beginning, as appears from all the quotes above of same,  I only added the explanation between brackets to point out the obvious.

Vendettas aside, the only way I can stomach the KV-2 is to think of it as a companion to the much sougt after IMAI Elephant!! Maybe I should add that it is a strictly personal view .

If anything I'd give better odds of HL releasing a SU-152 to go with their KV-1E - that would fit with their product stratergymuch more closely than that of Tamiya. You have to admit that HL have been pretty savvy about making the most of theirexisting tooling when it comes to new products -reuse as manypartsas possible for the next design, etc.KV-1 this year, KV-2 maybe next and then we'll see what comes after...

@ Crocodile - Hooben have been threatening my bank balance for a whilewith their rumoured offering of an Elephant... sit tight, and that Mighty Mastodoncould be your's too
Sooo many new releases on the horizon, and so little cash to spare right now

I think there are RC IRand Airsoft versions of the KV-2 available in a smaller scale as well.

I agree with Mart. Given that HL released the very popular Stug III shortly after the Pz III I think it is quite likely that a SU 152 will follow the KV-1 release.
As for the SU 152 being more than a match for a Tiger or Panther, I'm not so sure.
It had no turret, so the whole vehicle had to be slewed to acquire and shoot at a target to the left or right.
It had a maximum rate of fire of only 4 rounds a minute with an experienced crew and only carried 20 rounds for the main armament, mainly HE.
Having said this, If HL do release it, I will definitely buy one.

John

You have to remember that the shell doesn't need to penetrate the armour - that amount of HE mearly needed to crack the hull - the resulting shrapnelscabbed off the inside surfaces would goflying in all directions...
And the concusion from the shell detonating had to be pretty effective at neutralising its victim's crewstoo...

Overpressure and spalling are recipes for a very unhappy crew.

I'm not questioning the effectiveness of the SU-152's weapon Mart, the consequences of a direct hit on a tank are well documented. Although comparitively rare given the numbers of armoured vehicles in action on the eastern front. What I am trying to say is that It was a large bulky beast that was quite easily outflanked by the more manouverable panzers once spotted, due to the lack of turret mounted main armement.

Cheers
John
