RE: Sukhoi SU-26 MX build
Swixxtt I had the very same trouble with my 150 Saito not enough power for its size. I sold mine in a package deal, Plane engine and servos. I had done quite a bit of prop testing on that engine and decided that a 15x8 APC was about it for the max size W/O the engine getting hot. Maybe more fuel thru it would have helped I don't know.
I went to a 120 YS and never looked back.
Ya need a few good flights in to help out the blues , good luck with your repairs.
Jim I to am sorry to hear of your loss, Many years ago I read a article that claimed batteries are the main cause of lost planes and I believe it . There so easy to just overlook and forget about.
This time of year for me is the critical time, cause i'm just starting to get back into flying after the long winter so my batteries go thru a good testing before the plane goes up
A good cycler is well spent money in my book.

RE: Sukhoi SU-26 MX build
Thanks for that.
yeah i kinda have a feeling it must be the fuel. in the sense that it isn't getting enough or starved for fuel. i used to think it was heat but i am having doubts about that. it wasn't very warm out when i flew her last week and it performed almost exactly the same as it did last summer. and that is with a new muffler which i've notice on my other saitos that it gives about 100rpm more or so.
i am probably going to see if anything else comes up for engines and maybe put this Saito in something else.

RE: Sukhoi SU-26 MX build
I have found that with the 120 and larger engines one needs to use the large fuel line. This includes the clunk and brass tubing in the tank. I do this on the vent line also.
Yust my opinion but it works for me.

RE: Sukhoi SU-26 MX build
I use med size tube on all my engines, including the 160 FX"s and 2300 ST and don't seem to have any issuses. Myself I have never had the need to go to larger tubing for fuel flow or extra tank pressure. But with my non pumped setups I keep the lines as short as possible. I'm very aware that if a person doubles the size of a tube you get 4 times the flow rate, but so far I haven't had to use it .Knocks on wood!

RE: Sukhoi SU-26 MX build
Juan,
That is a great flying airplane. It will do anything you ask it to do. I have powered mine with a Moki 180 and it is a very good flying bird with that power. It is heavy compared to the new kits (ARF's) that are out there. I recently crashed one of mine Sukhoi MX 26's and have replaced it with a Quique YAK 54 (72 inch wing span). It is about 3 or 4 pounds lighter than my Sukhoi. It also would be good for IMAC. If you decide not to build your Carl Goldberg SU-26 I wouild like to be first in lline to buy it from you. If you do decide to sell the kit.notify me at [email protected]

RE: Sukhoi SU-26 MX build
Pete,
My Sukhoi weighs in at 11.8 pounds. This is all up and I have a heavy backplate mount which is part of the Moki rear crankcase cover. If you do not use this mount it would be lighter.
I can hover mine and add power and it starts climing.
Hope this the answer you were looking for.

RE: Sukhoi SU-26 MX build
Thanks Juan,
I have only built six SU 26's and have found that the only bad wood is in their wing sheeting material and I do not use that. Their leading edges and wing spars can be warped quite badly but I bought out the stock before Lanier weht out of business. I also got as many of the pieces to the Bucker Jungman that they had while I was there.
Please let me know if you decide to sell.
Jim

Pete,
I run 5% Nitro because I cannot find FAI fuel. I also plumb in the large tubing and clunks into my tanks and use large size fuel lines also. This helps a lot.

RE: Sukhoi SU-26 MX build
Hi guys.
Jim I´m sorry of your loss, i´m yet building mine but i´m not too inspired, anyway i have decided the flying scheme the engine (MVVS 26) and servos for wings ( FS3152), stabs ( for Horiz HS-225BB and Ver HS-5625MG), I have been really surprised with your 11.8 pounds/ 5.3 Kgrm. Sukhoi, mine i have been really carefull about weight and finally just hope be under 5 Kgrm./11 pounds. Please could you tell me if engine and servos will be enough?
Well some photos of my bird and accessories

RE: Sukhoi SU-26 MX build
looks really great! good work on the wings and making them 2!! take a pic of the bottom of the fus and your gear attachment... would like to see how you've done that. what kit version was yours?
i thought about 26MVVS but decided against it because of weight to power ratio. although my setup with a Saito doesn't seem to be a roaring combination i've seen others though with the MVVS on the nose.
noticed the 'snowbirds' in the full scale pic you posted!!

RE: Sukhoi SU-26 MX build
pacorro ,
I am not sure whch SU 26 you have but mine was a Carl Goldberg model. In response to your questions I can only offer the fact that I fly mine with JR 4131 Servos and I know nothing about your engine. Sorry I cannot help there. From what I can tell by the photos the plane looks great. Keep up the good work and let us know how it turns out.

RE: Sukhoi SU-26 MX build
Hi.
Well, i tried to make some changes in the CG Sukhoi SU 26-MX (I), airfoiled stabs, two wings (for carriage), and a belly pan more rounded, always people said Carl Goldbergs fuse are like a box, and yes next time I will make some photos with all details of main landing gear.
I still have the kit, but i´m going sell it out (have too many)

RE: Sukhoi SU-26 MX build
I removes some significant weight by enlarging all of the cut outs in all of the fuselage openings and its former openings, 1/4 inch in my plane where I thought that there was enough left for strength. I know it does not sound like much but you will be surprised by how much weight can be removed by doing this. The majority of the fuselages strength lies in the hoop strength set up by the covering, ( Monokote ) in my case. I use a little balsarite at the corners of the fuselage normally.
Hope this helps.

RE: Sukhoi SU-26 MX build
Pacorro,
I am impressed with your work. I think that I might alter my newest SU-26 MX scratch build to incorporate the dual wing on carbon tube. I would like to know more about how you accomplished all of the alignment. Any help would be appreciated. I decided to scratch another because I cannot find a kit anywhere. It matters not because I am retired and have the time and enjoy the building.

RE: Sukhoi SU-26 MX build
Hi Jim, first of all thanks, but is not so big work, just a little mor than the original kit (that i actually sold out). All the developement is in the forum (3 or four pages behind i started), the dihedral an how to do it, is simple, usually for two wings uses, the first 3 (most) or four ribs of the wing, i did with no dihedral but if you want give some, shall do the holes for the tube increasing one or two milimiters from the centerline of the ribe from the first to the third or fourth, another important think is better draw the ribs all in the same rectangle, yes the rectangle for the first shall be the same than the ninenth , the left over will be used like a cradle for the wing have the correct dihedral, same for stabilizers v & h.
Is a great idea carbone tube, will light more than 100 grm. Hope the following photo will help you to understand what y have tried to explain, any way make me know what else can i help you (sorry but my english it´s poor)

RE: Sukhoi SU-26 MX build
Thanks,
Your english is just fine. This gives me enough information to get started. I spent the day creating a llite plywood template for the version 2 fuselage. The one with the landing gear on the fuselage.
Since it is very hot here today I will continue tomorrow. I have some lite plywood on order and when it arrives I will start manufacturing parts for the new airplane.
Did you use lite ply for the tube installation or just use balsa? It looks like the tube would be supported by the upper and lower spar.
Sorry I cannot communicate in Spanish. I spoke Mexican when I was younger but cannnot any longer.

Jim
My wing costruction was balsa 5mm x10mmx800mm, beech wood 5mmx10mmx600mm(for lighting) and balsa again glued to tube, but that last you shal calculate the decrising of wing depending the dihedral you do, and ist yust fot the 3 or four first ribs.
Other way i almost finished the cabin and so it´s as it looks

Hello All,
I have a 2nd Gen. kit for sale, with fiberglass cowl and belly pan, if anyone is interested. I've enjoyed reading this whole thread over the past couple days and would like to build my kit, but I barely have enough time to fly and build my ARF's due to work and family.
EDIT: Kit is Sold pending funds. Thanks Guys
Thanks,
Mark

Hi guys.
There is a thing i´m sure, that´s been my longest proyect, but finnally is done and this weekend will hava his maiden flight if everything is ok.
Thers is a thing i shall improve, painting cowl, don´t know if it´s been cause my three pieces cowl (2 abs and front fiberglass) doesn´t glue good or for not prepare the surface or just the painting, anyway will learn for next time.
