Do you mountan engineright side up,inverted,oron its side, on theUltra Stick .40? Does it have a 2 or 1 piece wing?

Would a .48 2-stroke engine be enough power for it?

Side mounted works best for the carb to fuel tank centerline match-up.  I use a Pitts style muffler on mine.  The airplane has a one piece wing.

Yep, side mount it and run a rubber exhaust deflector toward the ground and you will have very little clean up.

What make .48 are you running? K&B Screaming .48?

The wing is a one piece on the 40 size. I ran my Ultra Stick with the engine conventionally mounted with a downward facing pitts muffler. I used a YS 45 with a 12.25x3.75 prop and had a great time with it for over four years. Would still have it if people still used the frequency board. recovered everything but the engine. It is still in the lake.

It's a great plane. Of the 12 in my hanger, I flew it the most.

Ihave the Ultra Stick 40 with the yellow/white/blue color scheme. For power I am using the Saito .62 4-stroke side mounted. This is my 2nd model after graduating from an LT-40 trainer I flew for four years.

My LT-40 was all yellow and being a relatively large airplane, it was very easy to see. The Ultra Stick appears mostly white in the air. First few times I flew it I had some minor orientation problems. Now with a dozen flights on it, that has gone away and I'm really, really, really enjoying flying this airplane. I flew it in 20mph winds and had no issues whatsoever.

I liked the red, white and blue scheme. When looking at the top of the aircraft you see red wing. When looking at the bottom, you see blue wing. That saved my bacon a few times. As long as lighting is good you can see the difference. But if you fly in heavy cloud cover, then both side appear dark, especially when using sun glasses. Here is a photo taken buy a kid with the local school newpaper. He had an awesome camera. It was getting dark, and I was nervous, but he finally got the shot he wanted. That is the moon in the background. It is about 20 minutes past sunset.

I agree with pipeMajor and multicasting, the red/white/blue color scheme is the way to go. Also mount the engine sideways  and the exhaust facing down. I used a supertiger 61 with a slimline pitts type exhaust which was plenty of power. However with this set  up I needed a fair amount of lead in the tail but the plane flew well and came in nice and slow with flaps. If I were to do it again I would go with a saito 82. That being said, the 48 2 stroke should have enough power and would make balancing easier.

I've flown my two .40 sized Ultra Sticks with an OS LA .46 and an OS AX. 46.  Both are plenty of power.  Your .48 is only a bit more power.  Although you will be flying from higher altitude, I would simply go with what you have, as it should be addequate for your location.  If you then feel you need more power, you can get something else.  I have the red Version and like it.

sort of, Its for helping a ranch with all their brandings. and the only time I can afford any planes. The Ultra Stick will use it all up though.

I downloaded the manual and it says the Ultra Stick .40 has a larger wing area with quad flaps than with conventional ailerons, is that posible? And is iteasy enough to takeoff and land for a first taildragger?

Well I've flown the 60 size twice and it flew a lot like my 120 size (which I just landed 2 hours ago) and they all flew great! My USL120 takes off in about 20 feet it you have the flaps down. I run the quads and love it. I originally put the solid ailerons on it and didn't like it nearly as much as I do with the quad set up. I have yet to program my radio for crow but will shortly. This is one of the most fun top wing planes you'll ever own.

I flew one with a .51 and quad flaps and it was a lot of fun, until like was posted earlier it ended up in the lake. This plane can fly really fast and then you can drop the flaps and putt arround which I like to do. It will hot dog and do pretty much what you want it to then take it in for touch and go landings like a trainer. I plan on getting another for my next plane.

Kevin has it right about getting airborne fast. My USL with a Zenoah G-20 when using flaps and into an eight mph wind will get airborne in its length. In crow, it will land in twenty feet.

Not sure but they sell lots of red ultracote....or similar. Easy plane to recover. I haven't done mine yet but did similar planes and they are a breeze.

AA5BY- How do you like the G20? I fly mine with the 26GT2 and love it. Was hovering it at low altitude the other day for the first time and was amazed at the amount of pull out it had even with a full 24 oz tank.
