Pretty hard to beat that kind of service! Jody is going to warranty an engine that was purchased from someone else.
I think I would talk a little nicer to him!

Pat/Jody OT but...
I used to work down in your neck of the wood back in '85 '86 in my trucking days. I was mainly running up and down the I-5 hauling raw lumber and wood products. I used to stop at Jubits just across the boarder in Portland as it was my main fuel stop when going north or south pretty much every day and sometimes twice a day. I soon learned to stay clear of the SeaTac area around rush hour. I never seen 8 lanes of traffic going each way come to pretty much a stand still until then. I was just a small town kid from northern Canada, it was quite an eye opener. Used to get real bad where the 405 and the I5 met just north of Tacoma. Met some very nice people down there in my travels and seen some very nice country. I was very impressed with the volunteers that used to serve free coffee at the rest stops in Washington to try and aid in safety on the road.
Jody thanks again for the help with the new style hub.

Did a lot of that kind of work myself. Ran a lot of steel up to Seattle from places way south. I had thought San Francisco traffic was bad but I-5 in SeaTac on a Friday after lunch with a light drizzel made S.F. look like open country by comparison.

Wow Pat, you sureget around. I would be honored to have you as a guest at our field. I fly here; http://www.mrrcs.org/I'm always there on Tuesday evenings doing flight instruction, and on Saturdays. This weekend though I'll be in Spokane pylon racing. Don't know how long you are up here for but the following weekend is a giant scale fly in in Othello, about 150 mi. to the east at a private land owner field and the event is huge every year. Don't worry, I have planes you can fly, sorry butyou'd have to settle for a 35% Extra, my big Edge won't be here till mid August. I could rearrange my time as needed to accomodate your schedule if you could make your way up anytime.
Funny how we all have some background in common, I used to drive the big rigs too. I hauled heavy equipment to and from coal, copper, silver and gold mines all over Canada and Alaska. Did a lot of hauling for an industial engine rebuilder named Precision Engine Specialists in Seattle. They built EMDs for the railroads and the Washington state ferries, and a V12 Worthington generator set that was the emergency power plant for Bangor nuclear sub base, just the engine was as big as your house and turned 750 RPM WOT. I mostly hauled the 16v-149 Detroit, and big V12 Cumminsgensets that powered the big Terex dump trucks at the mines. Engine, generator and radiator was a full load on a 45' low boy trailer. I even made a few trips to the tar sands mine in Ft. McMurray, Alberta. Worst place though was Hay River, NWT in the middle of winter, high temp all day, -50 with the sun shining.

You have a point there Nowhere else is someone breaking the locks on the back doors to unload the trailer while you roll through traffic......
Seems a good many of the hands on people that have a good understanding of engines have some similarities in their back grounds.
Jody,
I'll give you a call. I have a 35% Edge up here with me

Pat/Jody,
If you guys are going to get together then I want to drive over too. I would love to see Pat's Edge, and I need to get a few props from Jody. PM me and I will haul the kids over to the field on some Saturday, maybe I can even get my Yak in flying order by then...

Looks like it might be after the July 4th weekend. If the week goes as planned the Edge will be flying in St. Helen's, OR this weekend. BTerry, if you're in for the drive I don't think there would be a problem flying there if you're AMA. Nice field. One of the better things about flying in the Pac. N.W. is that everything is green instead of the usual dry yellow brown of CA fields. Too many trees up here though
Jody,
You guys make it too easy. You have GPS coordinates so I can do a step by step drive to the site. Perfect!

Hello Everyone,
I have recently began importing DLE engines in the 55 cc and 111cc versions. Let me know if you are in search of these motors. Iwill alsoprovide warranty through the manufacturer. Will do my best to beat competitors prices hands down. The manufacturer of DL engines are also coming out with other great displacements as well. 30, 80 and 222cc as some of you might have heard.PM me if interested. My prices will include shipping.
Thanks.
Louie

I got that socket drilled out finally, what a bear it was. Once I got it done I used one of my crank holders with it toremove the pilot shaft and pulled the hub. Now when I get home from vacation the new hub should be here and I can slap it on and be back flying. I attached a couple of pics of the crank holders I had made a while back. They are rather handy.

Decided to get inside my 100 today for the first time. Definately superior porting to a popular 100. Looking at the rings after 7 gallons I think I need to tighten up the bottom needle a bit. Rarely is full power needed to fly a 25 lb aerobat so it stays at around 1/3 - 3/4 throttle where anything rich on the bottom needle makes for a wet running engine. The darn rings haven't even seated yet... Found the cause for the lack of compression. My fault with a loose plug on one side and something else my fault on the other side. Sometimes you get so wrapped up in work engines that you don't pay enough attention to your own[:@] Fixed both and voila! Compression!!
Oh, for those that might be curious, don't even think about using a DA head on a DL, or vice versa.
Altavillan and RTK: I'm really ready for that prop rippin' contest now

Not so bad if it's tuned real tight on the low end. The difference in vibration levels might be worth it for many simply because it's the most powerful 100 in the "budget" class of engines. Based upon what I've seen, it's also the best designed in it's class. With a little work in the machining department the quality levels could equal or better the best in the high dollar class, which would put it's true value up with DA and 3W.

I've got mine tuned pretty tight on the low end. Might try it a little tighter though. I have a new DA that I put on my Edge. I ran it yesterday for the first time and it's quite a bit smoother.
I really like everything about my DL so if I can get it smoother I would be completely happy with it. For the money it's a great engine.

A couple of guys at my field have the 111's, but they're waiting on airframes. Curious to see them myself.
If T.O.M likes them, that's pretty high praise!

RE: DL 100 - New Twin on the Block!!
Who sells parts outright for the DL-100? I have one that has a damaged case, pistons and cylinders, but has been run with only a few tankfuls through it.. It has no warranty and I recently sent it in for evaluation to a dealer in Texas who could repair it for a little less than $500, by replacing the damaged parts with a "short block" whatever that is. If I could find the parts, I think I could re-assemble the engine myself, but $500 seems to be too much to repair a damaged engine. Or if anyone out there has any DL-100 parts for cheap I would be interested.

A couple of guys are waiting for the 3D hobbyshop 100cc SHP, should have them in a couple of weeks.
I live close to Aurora CO so I get to see a lot of the Aeroworks planes before they are released. Haven't seen the new Edge yet but a few of the guys have seen Rocco flying it and they say it's a really nice plane. Just try to keep it light. Saw the 300 Extra last weekend with a BME 110 that came in just over 27 pounds, it flew really nice.

RE: DL 100 - New Twin on the Block!!
There's only a couple of things needed that would put the 100, and perhaps the 111, over the top. If DL decided to use a different type of cylinder chrome and cleaned up the machine work a little it would remain at minimum equal, and likely better, than any 100 on the market. The big change for the "equal" side of the equation would be in anticipating a very long engine life cycle. If they checked the counter weight percentages and made a very small correction it would go well beyond equal. It already has exceptional power. Enough that I can't see any of the usual 27" props available being enough for the engine. The heaviest loading 27" props, Biela and MSC, it can swing with ease.
Here's an engine with about 10-12 hours on it (7 gallons) using Redline at 50-1. The real clean piston was in a cylinder that had a loose spark plug. The "dirty" piston crown is self cleaning rather well since there are no crusty deposits on it. Just a smooth carbon film. The engine is running too rich on the bottom needle, contributing the the carbon levels on the carbon skinned piston. Note the lack of scuffing or tracking on the pistons. The cylinders look as good. The rings indicate that the engine needs to be run warmer and leaner than I've been running it since they haven't polished out yet. All 3D flying so you would think the engine would be running a bit warmer than a casual aerobat. The oil is doing a real good job in preventing wear and carrying away heat.
