I am using the stock motor with a CF48 prop! ran nuts.. I made a different water pickup and the motor never gets above 105* and the esc only 95*

Spy,

I'm planning on getting the Hex 120 off hobbycity or $60 and add watercooling if necessary.  But maybe I need to look at that one first.  I like the as is watercooling.

This motor is not as good IMO
If you look at some of the last posts..
This motor will run hotter than the SV motor
This motor will not put out the power of the SV motor ( 400watts vs. 650-750watts)
This motor is smaller with a higher KV than the SV motor and could cook the motor (running hot)

But it is only 25bucks and could be worth a try?
Try this one?

http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...hless_Inrunner
I might try it in my 30" cat

I just purchased a Super Vee and am fairly new to the hobby. On my first trip out, I ran my Vee straight into a steel seawall. I got it fixed up, but the steering isn't very responsive. The rudder doesn't seem to turn all the way to either side. (It was this way before the crash). Also, if I am correct, id doesn't have reverse? I wouldappreciateit very much if someone could help me with my steering problem.

Check the knob on the top of the radio. I don't remember which way to turn it to get more throw out of the steering, but you can power it up out of the water and turn all the way to one direction and then move the knob on top and see if you can get more throw out of it.

If that doesn't get the desired result, unscrew the servo horn from the steering servo and see if you can move the rudder back and forth more than you could before. If there's much resistance in it you may have a binding rudder. If it moves without much fuss turn your radio on but leave the steering servo unhooked. You can move the steering linkage out a hole or two (towards the end of the servo horn) which will give you more throw and therefore more rudder movement. Let the servo center (and center your trim) and put the servo horn back on. You'll need to put it on at a bit of an angle to compensate for the prop walk.

It has been quite a while since Iposted in this thread. This will beyear 3 for my SV27. It has been through a lot. For anyone thinking about modifying theirs, here is my rough upgrade path.
[*]Stock boat - Stock prop got eaten by some debris in the water right off the bat. Did not like it anyway having to crawl onto plane all the time.[*]Stock ESC smoked only a few runs in. Knowing what Iknow now, it was just a bad unit.[*]Started improving the stock cooling circuit. Lots of people have no issues but mine just did not do a good job. Used a full plastic sleeve style motor jacket.[*]Added second turn fin and adjustable trim tabs.[*]Started making my own NiMH 7 cell packs. Boat tore up the water but was hard on the batteries.[*]Upgraded radio to Futaba FAAST Tx. Much nicer radio to use. Stock radio had glitches with specific battery packs and lake locations that never occured since.[*]Upgraded to 2 transom water pickups and separated the ESC and motor cooling into separate circuits.[*]Bought balanced and sharpened X642 and X440/3 props from Fine Design. Very nice props. Got the boat over 40 mph in this configuration but everything was running on the ragged edge. Suffered two battery explosions, lost another stock ESC, overheated the stock motor.[*]Tried the Ammo motor, ran it with a Hydra 120 ESC. Killed the motor running it too hard. Hit 45 mph this way, just once.[*]Switched to A123 packs that Imake myself. Worked great initially but they still heat up a lot and start to have balance issues.[*]Upgraded Hydra 240 since Ihad bought one, currently used with a Feigao 9XL motor but a CF48 prop and the last remaining A123 packs. 36 mph top speed right now but the motor and ESC have no perceptible temperature rise. The motor jacket is a large aluminum on that Igot from Offshore Electrics. Their water fittings are the limiting factor in getting water throughput so Idrilled and tapped for much larger fittings. Water flow is probably 4 times the original.[*]Next plans are to swap over to a 7 XL or 6XL (using 3 cell Lipo this year) to up the prop speed. Should be bullet proof. Iwill then officially have gone too far and will probably get a bigger hull for next year.[/list]

I confess that I have not had time to read all the SV27 posts, however, I have seen numerous posts concerning the lack of cooling water taken in by the stock rudder pick up. Why not remove the left trim tab, drill a 3/32 hole in it near the back edge and insert a piece of brass tubing that has been angle cut. I soldered a brass washer to the bottom of the tube and placed a wheel collar on the top to hold it in place.(Maybe add a small amount of epoxy.) It works like a charm and all I had to do was shorten the silicone tubing a small amount. NO EXTRA HOLES PUNCHED IN THE TRANSOM!!!

I'm running a 440/3 octura and am getting allot of heat. I have added a seperate cooling line and enlarged everything. Is this too much prop ? She hits 37.5 on the gps and handles well but no matter what I do with the water it's still too hot, I havent heard of people haveing issues with this one.

I'll have to mesure them again, during the winter the water was 40-50 degrees so the temps where allot lower. Now the motor maybe 110 or so ? ESC is warm. I'll get hard #'s but the last time out I putted around for 2-3 min just to keep the water running and the motor was hot even after that.

Just order two new ener-g 4200 6 cell packs and a cf 48mm prop with bullet nut for summer? Will this setup be much better than my old 12 cell gp3300 and stock prop?

100-110 is fine for the motor.
Esc should be around that same temp and i bet your batteries werent over 105
