Jeff

I would recommend sheeting the wings yourself. Ernie does not do a very flash job of it.

Also you will still need to retract mounts, servo mounts etc that are better done before sheeting.

Cheers

I had Ernie sheet my wings when I ordered the "kit"..........the three wing panels were great.........could not fault them............and for $100 was well worth it

My fuselage was Ok not great , as Pete says a few pin holes and mine has some depressions in the rear end in front of the tail and around the cowl..........I also layed a couple of axtra layers of 6 oz cloth around the front section (cockpit forward) and some polystyrene foam formers down the rear of the fuse.

The build is not for the faint hearted and I was quite intimidated at the start when I opened a big carton to find a bare glass fuse and three lumps of sheets foam...but with some perserverence it does come together with no real drama.

Also
Get Ernie to double glass the cowl as it is way too thin (I had Ernie make a second one)

Ok guys

I took the plunge last night and start chopping up the canopy....[X(].

With the sliding rails installed I fitted ball links to the canopy and open up to holes on each side to allow for fitment and removal of the canopy when the front screen is fixed inplace....this is done with the canopy in mid position .......as the canopy will ethier by fully open or closed removal will be at the mid way point.
You will see that I have had to extend the frame of the centre section as the fibre glass was molded over the canopy plug..........I still have to extend the frame around the front section and I'll be using plastic styrene strip as a frame for the rear canopy section.
I also made some faux structure in the rear section, I plan to place the RX under the rear deck which I will make removable for access........the armour plate is a bit rough at the moment and needs more work.
The cockpit kit is a 1/5 scale from Dynamic Balsa and whilst the instrument panel is a bit small the sides look ok.........I plan to make a new instrument panel and cut out the rasied sections from the vac formed 1/5 panel ...............more pics to follow .

Still contemplating an opening door.............I now have the hinges but then I have to make a door latch mech and cut through the slide rail, build the door interior yaddah yaddah.

I'll have to see how the interior turns out ............if it looks a bit ordinary then I'll keep the door fixed.

I just ordered the 1/4 scale pilot from Clark Industries............he looks a bit naff but the best I can find that is not mega bucks

cheers

Thanks Pete.....I had a look at the Inzpan stuff a while ago but 1/4 scale is too big and 1/5 too small ............and both too damn expensive.[:'(]

I have started on a new instrument panel from scratch and working on using cutouts of photos of the dials glued behind clear acetate sheet..........I'll have to experiment and see if it looks Ok.

I also have some Graupner guages thet may do the job ..........so all is not lost.

On the paint front.........I him tinted the Green with black and have now colour matched it to the Model Masters Dark Green to give it a more olive drab colour which now better matches all the color pics I have ...........should look much better

If the colors come out like this I will be stoked

Spitmad,

I have some artwork for the Spit instruments which I created in Adobe Illustrator to go with my 1/5.5 scale cockpit kit. I can scale it to your required size and send you a PDF if you would like to see it.

Chad..........that would be great!!!

Can you scale it to 1/4.6 ?.....and mail the PDF it to [email protected]

A bit more progress on the rear hood .........I made up a frame from 2mm styrene sheet and trimed the canopy to fit.....needs a little more work . I plan to fix the canopy to the frame and then make the rear canopy assembly removable for access to the RX, elevator and rudder servos and the switch panel behind the cockpit.
The radio compartment access panel is hinged and a catch made from a spring loaded bomb release mech.

Look'n good Spit.
Hopefully I will cut the radio hatch out on my Spitty this week end.

Cheers,
